Purchased this together with the Sony HT-A5000 soundbar. After having it for a week together with the soundbar, THIS is the perfect compliment to it!! Ok, that's all well and good, easy connection, good build quality.... But how does it sound.... Now, subwoofers tend to come in 3 distinct categories. 1 ones that sound punchy 2 ones that hit great sounding low frequencies 3 ones that sound like a giant blowing raspberries Number 3 is not good, probably best left to people's bad car installs whereas numbers 1 & 2 are good, sometimes you get subs that are both 1&2, these can have the potential to be excellent, the SA-SW5 is one of these. For setting up and checking subwoofers I generally use two listening methods. Firstly I play the Jurassic park T-Rex escape scene. In this scene you can check bass levels on many particular events, the foot steps of the approaching T-Rex, the thunder, and the roar. On the footsteps, bad subs will show a distinct warble effect after each pound as the sound tapers off, this subwoofer did not, it provided a great initial thud, followed by a perfect fall off as the sound tapers, great sounding. The thunder in bad subs will sound good, but you will get "empty" spots where the frequency is just beyond the response frequency of the sub, again this does not happen with this subwoofer, the sharp bang of the thunder coming from the A7000 is perfectly followed by a deep boom from the sub while the distant rolling bass and echoes are perfectly rendered from the subwoofer. Lastly, the T-Rex roar. Just because on a fully kitted out 5.1 or 7.1 system it sounds awesome, and yes, it really does on the SA-SW5. The second way I test subwoofers, is by playing a hi-res version of the popular dance song "Smack my (female dog) up" by the Prodigy. This song has so many elements that rely on good subwoofer set ups it's really unreal, the initial kick at 42 seconds is followed by so many elements that are deep and bassy that it's a really great way to check the capabilities of a good subwoofer. Each element, each kick, pad and synth sounds perfect to my ears. Each kick has punch, each synth has great depth, it's an overall exceptional experience. Which is how I'd sum up the SA-SW5 as a whole, it provides an exceptional experience, which in itself adds to the brilliant audio from the host A7000. For some the A7000 holds quite enough punch as it is, but for that extra bit of excellence, I would thoroughly recommend this unit.

You can get 12 levels of Bass, very neat, I have a couple of songs that I always use a way for measurement, Royals by Lord, Come Together by The Beatles. Not all the subs can perform the bass really well at the maximum volume with these songs, but this one pass by far my test. But when I put Movies like Avengers End Game, or Star wars, the battles couldn’t sound more realistic with the bass that this sub produce. The design is very elegant, even if its size is big it looks nice in my living room. The sides are round not only for cosmetic reasons but because Sony found out that it is best for sound performance and they are covered in a kind of leather material that feels soft and high quality. It match perfectly with the look of the a7000 soundbar, keeping the visual harmony of the whole team The setup is simple, once you go through the onscreen setup in the A7000, you select add wireless speakers, run again the Sound optimization Tool that ins part of the A7000 setup and in few second it will be ready to rock Red light indicates that a speaker is power off or standby mode. Green light indicates that it is power on and connected to the soundbar. This is a high end premium quality subwoofer, that you definitely will appreciate. And the perfect match, esthetically and great bass performer for the A7000 Soundbar.

HT-5000 paired with SA-SW5 sub, rear SA-RS3S speakers, and Bravia XBR75-Z9F. I was skeptical about this system due to the price but was pleasantly surprised. I couldn't justify the HT-7000 price for two more speakers and I'm happy with the HT-5000. Incredibly easy to set up. The range is excellent. The Atmos effect is incredibly pronounced. You must buy the entire system to have incredible sound. I connected the sound bar and subwoofer and thought I made a mistake with this purchase. It wasn't until I connected the rear speakers that the system came alive. Window rattling bass. Crystal clear dialogue. Music, movies, YT vids, even DTV sounds great. I have zero regrets. This is best setup besides a full component system.

Sony has been very kind providing HT-A5000 soundbar for me to test, it's a great product on it's own! But having additional accessories as Sony SA-SW5 subwoofer and Sony SA-RS5 rear Atmos speakers are a game changer! The quality of bass is superior, there is no distortion, clear, steady, punchy low bass. Seamless connectivity and stable connection to the soundbar. Built quality is exceptional. I highly recommend this product as additional accessory for Sony HT-A7000 and HT-A5000 soundbars. My personal opinion: I wouldn't waste extra £300 GBP on top of the range HT-A7000 soundbar, but instead would buy Sony HT-A5000 and add soundbar and Atmos rear speakers! ... It weighs over 28 pounds and is about 16 inches high, 11 inches wide, and 16.5 inches deep. So it will certainly take up a sizeable chunk of your living room floor. The sides of the SW5 are wrapped in a textured leather-like material that is very soft and fingerprint resistant. The mesh on the front of the subwoofer blends in seamlessly with that of the A7000. The base of the subwoofer is a glossy black that adds a nice bit of contrast from the rest of the unit. === SOUND QUALITY (5 Stars) === Simply put, the sound produced from this subwoofer is absolutely thunderous and takes an already excellent soundbar to new heights. The volume of the subwoofer can be adjusted on the soundbar's remote control. Anything above a level 4 or 5 seems like overkill for my setup. Even at higher levels, there I have not noticed any distortion at all. It produces, clean, crisp, punchy bass, appearing to reach very low frequencies that lesser subwoofers simply can't touch. I watched the 4K disc of Mad Max: Fury Road (one of my demo discs for low-frequency effects) immediately after installing the A7000 and SW5 subwoofer. I can safely say that watching this movie with the SW5 is the best I have ever heard it, and I have owned quite a few subwoofers over the years. The SW5 is undoubtedly one of the best subwoofers designed to be used with a soundbar, but it might be overkill for those with smaller living rooms or in apartment/townhome settings. I haven't had a chance to test the smaller, 200W SW3 subwoofer, but I would encourage those with smaller setups or less demanding audio requirements to look at that model. === OVERALL === I won't go so far as to call this subwoofer a "must-own" if you have Sony's A7000 soundbar. The soundbar on its own is truly exceptional. But if you are serious about your home theater setup and getting the best possible sound from a seamless and easy-to-use system, then the SW5 subwoofer is a no-brainer. It is certainly expensive, but it's clear that Sony is targeting the premium audio market with its new line of soundbars and subwoofers. The SW5 is priced in line with its closest competitors and, in my opinion, offers unmatched design, sound, and ease of use. Part of me is upset that Sony did not bundle a subwoofer with the purchase of the A7000 soundbar. On the other hand, there's no way they could have included a subwoofer of this caliber and kept the price competitive. I appreciate the modular nature of the A7000, allowing users to add subwoofers and speakers if they so choose. I'm confident that the SW5 is going to provide many hours and years of home theater enjoyment. Highly recommended!
Bought this along with the 65 A90J Sony Oled tv I reviewed that as having the best picture of any set including the new Samsung Oled The TV is Sony Soundbar particular Then I reviewed the Sony 7000 Soundbar and noted that by itself it is okay but when paired with a newer Sony Tv that has both the great internal speaker system and the S center channel Hookup—- it then turns this Soundbar into a great Soundbar. Which brings me to the final piece- that being this SW 5 sub. It puts out plenty of bass. I never turn it above 4. It completes this great system. The only reason I did not give it a 5 is that I have to reset it every 3 or 4 days. I will say this never happens once good to go. Only when first turning on. My router is a good 11 feet from the sub and I have a great internet hookup. Both Sony and BestBuy have offered to exchange. But it does sound great once all going. Personally I wish all the Soundbar makers gave you a hard wired option - but they do not I am just used to testing my system first thing and taking the extra minute to get the awesome sound. If it was not for this- based on the sound alone - I would have given it a 5.

I have the HTA7000 Soundbar and it is excellent overall as standalone. Adding this subwoofer releases the Soundbar from performing bass duties and delegates that to the Soundbar. The Soundbar will now allow more subwoofer audio levels going from only 3, to more than 10. This allows the Soundbar to provide the cleanest audio along with bass. Without the subwoofer the Soundbar can produce decent bass at the cost of introducing muddiness when cranking the bass levels to high. The addition of this subwoofer the muddiness goes away. The audio from the subwoofer is excellent. It provides deep bass that fills the room. I placed the subwoofer next to my couch, basically on the opposite side of the TV and Soundbar wall. I was worried about this not being optimal placement but it worked well. The room fills with powerful bass. The subwoofer box has excellent build quality with sof touch materials all around. There is a front firing and also a downfiring driver. It only uses 43w of electricity and automatically connected with the Soundbar when plugged in. It is about 12 feet away from the Soundbar and there have not been any wireless connection issues. If you don't have a preference for a TV I would highly recommend pairing up the Sony Soundbar with a new bravia TV because the TV remote can fully control the Soundbar and there will be no requirement to have multiple remotes. The Soundbar, sub, and rear surrounds turn off and enter standby mode when the TV is turned off and they turn on she the TV is turned on. It is great that the sony ecosystem fully integrates itself with Soundbar options available on the TV's quick menu system.

Although the SA7000 is a little pricey, it provides an impressive sound that easily fills any room. Also includes voice control for use with Google or Alexa, and the blue-tooth allows you to pair it with your favorite music source, or you can "air play" directly to it. I ran across a couple negatives but they are minor. Like may sound bars, this one is tall and since my TV is on its own stand, the sound bar obscures the remote sensors of my TV.I ended up putting it behind my TV which probably limits it somewhat but it is still very impressive. Of course, this wouldn't be an issue if your TV was wall-mounted or if you mount the sound bar on the wall using the included template and brackets. I also receive my television signal "OTA" (over the air) paired with a Tivo. Unfortunately this created a delay issue between the audio and video where the mouths and voices do not match. I attempted to correct this in the TV (I have a Samsung) settings but this did not remedy the problem. The only solution I've found (so far) is to change the settings on the Tivo from Dolby to PCM. This took care of the sync issues but limits the Dolby options of the sound bar. If streaming directly through the TV, I do not have this sync issue. Maybe there is a better fix for this - I'll keep searching. This is impressive and could possibly eliminate the need for an A/V receiver - it sounds that good! I paired the system with the optional SW5, which is a free-standing 300-watt subwoofer that will definitely thump. Alert the neighbors because this thing sounds incredible - just like a theatre minus the rumbling seats. It provides crisp, clear bass and really adds depth to the sound bar. I tested out the "immersive AE" on a 20-year-old movie (Pearl Harbor) to see how it would respond and was blown away. Planes flying around sounded as good as a movie theatre. If you can swing the additional expense, you should ABSOLUTELY get the SW5 subwoofer. if you have neighbors close by, they do offer a smaller subwoofer - the SW3.
