With the grip, its not badly balanced, but without it, I dont know how I would manage it. Thats really the only caveat that comes with this lens that Ive found so far - youve got to possess the strength to wield it.Autofocus is very fast on my A7rii, but insanely fast on the A7riii. the colors are very nice, a bit on the cool side, which I prefer, and contrast is excellent. Its also a very sharp lens, even at f/2.8.I also own the 28-105mm G now and Id say this one is a bit better optically, at least to my taste. If being able to push the bokeh further and having that extra 1.2 stops of light matters to you, Id go with this one. If having the extra range and a slightly lighter lens is a top priority, then opt for the 70-105. Or you can always buy both of them, because theyre both amazing in their own ways. Lol

A solid lens, better depending on your camera

I've been using this with a Sony A7s II, and I've been really happy with the results. I do a lot of run'n'gun videography and the quality of this lens is perfect for that. The autofocus is enough for me, but it is a little slow for the price of this lens, although I imagine would be much faster with a newer camera. Definitely workable unless you are needing lightning-fast AF for sports or something.The look of the lens is fantastic, the glass and body are super high quality. The zoom and focus rings have a really nice tension to them that makes pulling them very smooth. Overall, I'm super happy with this lens!

Astonishing performance!

I purchased this lens along with an A7iii. The autofocus with this set set up is nothing short of astonishing! Using the eye focus feature I took some environmental portraits of my kids on a hike. I was impressed with the speed of the autofocus but knew the real test would be looking at the photos in Lightroom. After reviewing them I am so happy with this lens and camera. I ordered the Vello grip which helps with the small grip size of the A7iii with this large lens.My 1 sincere concern is that I may have spoiled myself for lesser lenses. As an amateur/hobbyist I dont NEED G-Master level lenses but the wow factor is making me seriously consider staying with these lenses.Overall I would highly reccomend this lens to anyone considering investing in good glass, but strongly encourage you to inform yourself as to the size. A battery grip also seems to me a neccessary accessory for this great lens on A7 series bodies.

Big on quality, big on size

I don't like large mid range zooms, which extend in size when zooming! I much prefer zooms with internal focusing.However, the quality of the images is incredible, starting from the full aperture. On few occasions I didn't think that closing the aperture could improve the sharpness of the images, only to find that it goes to another level when closed down by just one stop.Zoom is disproportionate in size to the compact form facto of the cameras, and requires battery grip for comfortable use.The colour and out of focus areas rendering is excellent.

Fine optics

Purchased as a replacement for my a-mount Sony Carl Zeiss 24-70mm f2.8 Vario-Sonnar, because of the cashback and price match deal on offer. I had been using the a-mount on my a8iv via the LA-EA5 adapter and that was fine, but with this deal I decided to go for the native e-mount, with the added bonus of weather proof construction. early days, but it feels similar in use, and is delivering fine image quality. Main drawback is weight but it is in fact 70gm lighter than the Carl Zeiss, and around 200gm lighter that that lens with the adapter. I did think whether I should buy the Mark 2 version that is a new optical design, considerably smaller and lighter, but felt the extra cost wasn't worth it.

Great walkaround lens when traveling

Think twice about this lens

I wanted the Sony 24-70mm f/2.8 lens for a rather specific purpose: to take pictures indoors without flash. Yes this lens takes good pictures indoors and maybe good for things like weddings when you are close to people. However, now I take many different type of pictures and I find the a 24-70mm lens may not be the best lens to have. Today's cameras allow for high IOS, for more latitude in magnification, I have used a Sony 24-240mm and gotten a acceptable indoors. So I am sorry, but a 24-70mm lens may not be for me.

Worth every penny!

WOW! That's what I think every time I use this lens. Since I'm a hobbyist and not a professional photographer I struggled with purchasing such an expensive lens. However, after shooting my first few pictures with this lens on my camera (Sony A7RIII) I am very happy with my purchase, no buyers remorse for me. The photos with this lens come out sharp and crisp. I have Lightroom as my editing software, but the photos I'm sharing are untouched and straight from the camera. Rather than go on and on about how good this lens is I have shared a few photos for you to make your own conclusion.
