I went through 6 Bluetooth speakers looking for one that had a quality sound and heavy bass. None of them sounded that great. So I visited every store I could think of (including Best Buy and Fries) that had working displays. I needed to hear the product this time before I bought it. Sony was by far the best sounding and had amazing bass. The stores all have the later model of this Sony for more than $200. So I went online and found it at great savings. I am very happy with this speaker. I used to build speakers when I was younger just to get the quality sound I was looking for. Now I have it with this Sony.

Speakers are one of my favorite things, since I have all of the standard speaker bases covered I really like these because of the light show capability. I have to admit that I thought the lighting would be cheesy (especially the lights on the drivers) but once I received these and started using them I found that I really like the lights (and of course the sound) especially in a dark room.Aside from the lights I really like that all of the basic functions (2 speaker stereo mode, and 10 speaker party mode) can be initiated from the speaker itself and do not rely on an app - Additionally Sony adds lights on top of the speaker that give you information about how the speaker is being used while in stereo mode. (This means you can tell if a speaker is playing the left or right channel or if the speaker is playing both channels just by looking at the top of the speaker, you can also change the Left/Right mode from the speaker itself ) Furthermore, two speakers, when linked in stereo mode, act like a single system, meaning that changing the volume on the left speaker will change the volume on the right speaker, or, powering off the right speaker will power off the left speaker too. When the speakers are powered down in linked stereo mode they will remember this mode and will automatically link back together when both are powered back on.Multi Speaker "Party Mode" allows up to 10 of the new SRS-XB** speakers 2 drivers to be linked to one device and play the same source, I've found that "Party Mode" is fun when it works but that this mode is prone to problems and works best when the speakers are spaced away from each other (say 5 feet from each other) and in an area without a lot of wireless "noise" (from WiFi Devices, and other bluetooth devices). The speakers have an AUX input but the multi speaker modes can only be used with bluetooth.

I’ve had this speaker for six months now and I’m very happy with it. It’s sturdy does well with water (don’t think I should recommend putting it *under* water but it’s been splashed on a few times) and the sound is great. Had an issue once or twice with jittery audio but rebooting the bluetooth on my phone was a quick solve. I do not specifically blame the speaker for this, rather the signal from my phone. Would recommend. There is a slight latency delay but this only affects using creative musical gear designed to sync beats but that isn’t what this is designed for. Besides, If you connect it directly with the cable from the headphones jack on your phone, there is zero Delay. My speaker is red, I preferred it to the blue but would rather have had black except that ... MoreI’ve had this speaker for six months now and I’m very happy with it. Would prefer a slightly more vibrant red and could maybe do with one or two extra controls but it’s really designed to be controlled from your phone or device. but that’s pretty much as far as I’m willing to complain about it

I wanted two bluetooth speakers that could work as a pair, to give a wider sound source. In particular as a stereo pair. Nothing I tried before could achieve this reliably if at all. On unpacking the SRS-XB40 speakers, they went into exactly the mode I wanted with just a couple of button presses. What is more they remembered these settings and when used several days later and came on exactly as set up. The sound is good with extra bass if needed and an optional light show. I am very pleased with them
I got myself this about a month ago. At first I got a Jam Heavy Metal bluetooth speaker. It was very small and had a excellent sound quality. But after a few uses I noticed a rattle sound. I soon found out it was one of the buttons. So I returned it and got myself the Sony Xb40. And I found it a lot better. Though it's bigger it will still fit in a bag or backpack no problem. And it has the power to fill up a small to medium sized room. And dropped it a bowl of water and no problem it still works perfectly. It's good and if you want to make noise it's good for that too.
I bought this speaker to connect to a tablet. Nice looking well finished speaker flashing lights are a bit of a distraction but can be turned off. The sound quality is heavy on the bass even without the extra bass that can be switched on, so much so that the sound is somewhat muffled and not clear, it would have been better to have a much lighter and crisper sound in the high frequencies and then be able to add bass. I am disappointed in the overall sound quality and not inclined to use the speaker in preference to headphones which sort of defeats the purpose of buying the speaker.
I was looking for mid-range speaker for quite a while, not very expensive and not too cheap as sound quality is really matters for me. Then I found Sony xb40, I already had xb1, xb20 and x33, so I knew that its going to be amazing as it has all the features I wanted. It comes with 24hrs battery life, very loud sound, lighting function, multiple speaker connections through app, etc. I had some loud, inexpensive speakers that sounds nice but it always lack depth and feel that I get with sony's speakers and headphones. I own some of the reputable brand's speakers and headphones like senheiser, harman kardon, jbl, bose, beyerdynamic, AKG, grado, and so on.. So I know how exactly it sounds, it has extra bass feature but I don't use as I like the way it sounds. The only thing I don't like is when battery is about 20%, the volume goes lower than 50% so it's annoying if you still want to blast at full volume but due to restrictions l, you have no choice to use other speaker or listen at lower volume. I almost forgot that it has charging out port for your phones, watches, portable devices, etc. Overall, I am very happy with the speaker, I use daily at my desk while working or home when I am off work. I would like to buy another one to make a pair for stereo sound. Looking to buy in new year sale. Merry Christmas to you all. Happy holidays.
I've been a sound tech for 35 years and know sound well and I'm really impressed with these speakers. The SRS-XB40 and the SRS-XB30 models are surprisingly accurate and best of all they pair for use in different rooms for a party with identical sound or as left and right stereo for a much better stereo picture than a single USB speaker could produce. You can pair up to 10 of these speakers using the app as well as manual control of the audio and lighting effects and the lighting effects are pretty spectacular! These speakers have really impressive volume too; 2 of them in stereo would be plenty for a sizeable room for a party with really punchy base. For the money I highly recommend recommend both the SRS-XB30 and for even more power the SRS-XB40.
Positives:1. Fabulous deep bass sound Small speaker with MASSIVE good quality sound2. Easy to control from phone or speaker3. Excellent battery life and quick charging too4. Solid construction, good & heavy, shouldn't vibrate off window ledge even at high volumesNegatives:1. Sadly, seemingly will only bond with other Sony speakers, making my other (non Sony) speakers unusable at same time2. Flashing childlike lighting3. Poor phone connectivity for calls, intermittent very low call volume thru speaker & grabs phone calls, unable to override with phone itself (Moto G5+) or speaker without switching off Bluetooth
Very very happy with this speaker, wonderful sound, great fun lighting effects and fun to be had using the apps that accompany it.a very minor issue. Make sure your fully charged. the charger does not appear to power speaker whilst charging. just something to condider, love the fact that if a button is pushed, speaks how much battery is charged.nothing negative to write. over the moon, would definatley reccomend. well done Sony.
