The Sony 4K player has real problems with any discs that have been touched by hands on the active surface. Any fingerprint will stop the 3rd bluray layer from playing. This is why so many people rate the device as "poor performance" when you get to 1 hour 45 min of play time. HOWEVER, if you religiously clean your 4K discs and handle with clean hands only by the edges, then you can get the system to work flawlessly. Another problem is unit overheating. Be sure to elevate the unit off the surface and DO NOT put it on top of another electronic device that generates heat (like an audio amplifier). As good as this 4K bluray player is it's likely the last model from Sony that'll really put out the sorta quality people expect from them. Pretty much as long as the main frame & build of this video player remains as it is the quality can also be expected, but once they start making them as small & compact as possible (like with their current regular bluray players) then the quality, more specifically the longevity, will take a considerable nosedive. Either they use it only every so often and so it lasts a good while or their using it daily or every other day in which case they don't usually last more than a year and a half to two years absolute max. Meanwhile Sony first started making this model and overall frame design in January 2018 and most everyone I know who has one, even from 3 years ago, still says it works flawlessly, both those who constantly use it and those who only use it every so often. That little bit of observation tells me a lot about the current quality and durability being put out by Sony. Obviously their putting a solid effort into making good video players IF you're getting the latest and greatest. Similarly you'll only get mediocre quality from an older format of video players from them. So the only question for people at the moment is, do YOU see enough personally in the 4K bluray video library to want to invest? If not, well, this review isn't for you admittedly, but if so, here's your best option. Perhaps a bit pricey at $250, but it's better to spend a bit extra for one that'll last years rather than have to buy a new one every couple of years. Also, most quality, name brand 4K HDMI cables pair well with this to get the signal you want and expect. Just get this if you want the best out there. Simple as that.

I have owned a previous Sony DVD player beforehand so when I decided to upgrade to a blue-ray player there was only one manufacturer of choice, now that has had this new Sony blue-ray player for a few months & I can give my opinion on this product. The first thing is that after reading many online reviews about this player being noisy I find this not to be the case the unit runs fairly quietly in operation including the loading of discs. I will agree with other comments I read that the unit does look a bit cheap for the price paid but I do like the discreetness of it. Set up of the unit is fairly straightforward, especially if connecting to wi-fi, they no front display it is all on-screen menus & talking of the menu this does look a bit outdated compared to say a modern tv menu but it is functional and clear it supports streaming services like Netflix, Prime, etc, the remote is laid out well and the buttons are well spaced out note: the remote control can be easy to lose down the side of the sofa as is smaller than the standard remote you get nowadays. What this unit is all about is the fantastic picture quality that really upscales your older DVDs & brings them back to life again & put in a 4k blue-ray disc, and wow !!! to get the best out of the player use a good quality HDMI lead that can handle 4k plus I think it would be better matched with a modern 4k tv & soundbar as well to get the best out of the picture soundespecially if you watch a lot of movies, I have a 2020 4k LG OLED.
