You can also allow your headphones to recognise frequently visited places (train stations, work, home, etc) and can customise your sound and noise cancelling qualities accordingly.Speaking of the ANC, (active noise cancelling) these headphones do an AMAZING job. You can truly pretty much block out all background annoyances at busy locations or choose to allow some ambient sounds to penetrate (for example, if you need to hear train station announcements or children calling you). The buds themselves took a bit of getting used to as they are bigger than I was used to and at first was terrified they would drop out of my ears. However, don’t also has this problem covered by supplying a choice of 3 different ear tips that mould to the shape of your ear. There’s even an option in the app to test the air-tightness of your selected tips until you know you’re using the perfect size. What’s more, there’s even a configuration option in the app to have the sound quality customised to your exact ear shape by taking photos of each ear! (I know, WOW!).I also love how those headphones support Dolby atmos and Sony 360 degree reality audio which I can use on my TV and many of my Amazon music/Apple Music songs.Lastly, the headphone case is great quality as you’d expect for such premium headphones. The headphones fit magnetically and there’s no danger of them dropping out. I purchased a purpose - fit spigen armour case just to add an extra element of protection.I seriously couldn’t be happier with my purchase. The fact that these headphones are still top of most “best in- ear headphones” lists (including what hi-fi) after a solid 2-3 years is testament to how great they truly are. I’m sure they will remain top of my list for a good couple if years as I doubt many companies, other than Sony themselves, could better these!

I’m just so glad that I did! The sound is rich, deep, spacious and engaging. The medium earbuds are a pretty good size for me but I can only achieve the perfect seal by applying a bit of moisturiser on them to help get them in. A faff but worth the effort for the impressive result achieved. All made more practical by a reasonably good ‘ambient sound’ setting so that I don’t have to take them out to converse. The noise cancelling works a treat too (background noise whilst on a recent flight was pleasantly nullified) - definitely seems to be more effective than that on the Sennheisser True Wireless that I had for a short while.Very happy with the Richer Sounds service but quite overjoyed by the sound of these earphones. Read some reviews which suggest that Sonicfoam ear tips are even better than those supplied with the Sonys and am looking forward to trying those. If I were to be critical at all - tried running with them in and there’s an unpleasant thud in the ears with each footfall (fine when walking). I’m hoping the Sonicfoam tips will improve on that but if not, I’m more than happy with restriction and these are keepers.

I installed the Sony headphones app onto my phone and experimented with different settings until I decided on a setup that I liked and then set them up to those preferences. The noise cancelling feature is phenomenal; my neighbor's lawn care specialist was cutting the grass while I was wearing the earphones, (no music or videos, I just had them in getting familiar with them), so I activated noise cancelling, and when it had fully activated, I could no longer hear the lawn tractor at all. I had the "Speak-to-chat" feature turned on and set to focus on voice, and when my wife came in the room and asked me a question I couldn't hear her. I asked her to repeat the question, and as I spoke, the noise cancelling turned off for me to be able to talk to her. After we had finished the conversation, noise cancellation reactivated after the time period I had set, which is 15 seconds.I don't have music installed on my phone as I am medically retired and I'm home all day so my music is on my computer which I then play through my stereo system, so I installed SiriusXM on my phone just to see how they sound playing music. "Black" by Sevendust was playing, and being able to hear the music with no outside noises was great. Noise cancellation was still turned on, and when my wife came back in to say something the music stopped when I spoke and then continued when the conversation was over. I would imagine that if I had been playing music that was on my phone it would have paused the music and then continued from the same point, On streaming music it continued at the point where the song was playing in real time.I haven't used them long enough to drain the batteries much, but just doing what I have done, the battery level has never dropped more that two or tree percent.

Excellent sound quality
6 December 2022

Great sound quality when used for listening to music, watching a movie or show, lisyening to online learning podcasts, listening and talking in a phone call and in a meeting through video conferencing as well, as noise cancelling works very well. Sound is very clear, even when walking around the place and about 10 metres away from the connected device. Have not yet set up the earphones to do different functions for each side, so when one ear bud does fall out of one ear, whatever you are listening to does pause or stop, until you lift that ear bud to almost the same height or a short distance from the one that's still in your ear and tap play on it, so then it continues to play the music, podcast, or whatever else you were listening to. Doesn't cut out when in the middle of a video conference. Yes, you have to adjust the ear buds so that it sits snugly in place and stays there for it to do it's job properly, otherwise, it will keep falling out of your ear. Yes, sometimes, if you want to move around too fast, it does fall out, so I haven't tried taking it to go on a run or strenuous exercise. I don't like to listen to anything or have any devices in my ears while exercising anyway, but if it doesn't yet stay put when I want to turn around quickly while walking, then it is probably not a good choice for when doing more strenuous exercise. It works well for the other activities aforementioned, which was the main purpose for why I had bought these in the first place, to be able to listen and talk clearly in phone calls and online video conferencing work meetings. The other activities were to test what else it can do well, or cannot do, because I use Marshall devices for speakers, to amplify and add bass to music from a smartphone or laptop, from amplifying an electric acoustic guitar's sound, and Phillips over-ear headphones, which all have outstanding features for their purposes, excellent and clear sound quality when amplifying sound or needing to add bass or treble, just to compare and give you an idea of how these ear buds' sound quality works with something elsw that is also top notch. However, the ear buds are a bit pricey, as the other devices were not as expensive and can give outstanding quality sound for the purposes they were intended for.

Feature rich but don't feel very durable.

Sony have asked me to review these while they are looking over my pair that I've had for a little over 6 months which are currently having an issue with low volume in one of the earbuds. I'd include a few pictures but I've not seen my earphones for a few weeks now and am told there is a delay in getting my earphones fixed...The build quality is okay but not great for the price, I think the overall build could be better really. They are quite plasticky which makes them light but they feel as if they could be broken quite easily too sadly. A massive pro though is the fit and in particular the foam ear tips. Together, they are very comfortable and create a good, passive seal. Together, they are very comfortable and create a good, passive seal. I can happily wear these for extended periods without any issues really. As for sound quality, I am happy overall. For the money you can definitely get better but I think you are paying for the compact, wireless design and features like ANC and ambient sound which in loud environments can make listening to audio through these much easier. I think it is worth mentioning that these come with LDAC which I have found to massively improve audio quality when connected to my phone - it seems to have pretty good latency too. I would say these are detailed enough and can have an EQ applied using the Sony app to better tailor them to your taste but these ultimately feel like they offer good enough clarity across the board but lack in sound stage, especially when compared to even some budget IEMs.I feel like the ANC and ambient sound deserve a bit of attention on their own. They are definitely an improvement over the previous model and I would say I prefer them to what some of the competitors offer. The ANC is quite subtle for me, I feel as though I get most of the benefit passively with how good the fit and the ear tips are anyway. The ANC definitely drowns out some background noise but not all in certain settings, it preforms best with low noises like the hum of an engine but leaves a bit to be desired even what cranked all the way up. The ambient noise mode is the stand out feature for me - extremely clear and can be adjusted to let more or less outside noise in. Very handy to just use the passive noise isolation and then let some noise in this way and compared to the competition the noise that is let in sounds less artificial to me.Overall I think these are great but then you really expect that for the price they go for. I've tried a few flagship wireless earphones now and settled on these as my favourites. I can definitely recommend them assuming money is no object as I do think they are a bit expensive for what they are and I am a bit concerned about their longevity due to the build quality. The sort of person that will enjoy these will want good audio quality but also want a convenient design with a solid feature set and likely, they are a jack of all trades and do many things well but don't really master much overall.

Great Sony Name - Disappointing Product
11 March 2023

I bought this headset to use when travelling on long haul flights. The reviews were great, and the compact size meant it was much easier than full size headphones to pack into cabin baggage. I also loved the idea of them being automatically recharged in the travel case.On unboxing, the instructions took a bit of working through to set up the headset, involving downloading the app and registering a Sony account to complete the set up. The first disappointment was finding you need to make a monthly subscription to use the full features of the headset. The second disappointment was finding the headset is difficult to fit comfortably in your ears, they feel quite unstable in use as though they are going to fall out, so you continually push them back in. The second disappointment was finding the headset is difficult to fit comfortably in your ears, they feel quite unstable in use as though they are going to fall out, so you continually push them back in. I would not like to wear these in the street, they feel quite unsafe. The third, and most annoying, disappointment was finding the headset is not compatible with apt-X codec, the most common software used to lip sync with TV's and video devices. It means that whenever you use a Bluetooth transmitter to watch TV or a video on an inflight entertainment system then the sound is out of sync with the video, very annoying. I did investigate Bluetooth transmitters compatible with Sony products, but they are definitely not portable and significantly more expensive than standard Bluetooth transmitters.I will test out the noise cancelling qualities next time I fly, but that will be the only benefit of using this headset against the disposable, cheap inflight headsets that airlines supply.

These are my first set of higher end ear buds, and I must say that I am not disappointed. Using the app to help find the right size ear tip was easy, and provided and fantastic fit, with a good seal. They are very comfortable to wear for my particular ear shape as well, although with that being said, everyone is different, so your mileage may vary.As far as the setup goes, on my Android phone it was a breeze. Less than 30 seconds and they were paired and ready, just using the quick start guide. The app is pretty user friendly, and runs you through several little tutorials to familiarize the user with the different functions and features. The ANC works pretty well, but I've noticed a potential flaw that I'll address shortly. Alongside the ANC, is the ambient sound mode, which is what I mainly use, as I use them for music at work, and need to hear my surroundings. It works well, but now comes the potential flaw. Even with ANC, and adaptive sound control turned off, it still seems to randomly kick ANC on randomly for a second or two here and there. I noticed it because, being in ear buds, they obviously work well to seal out some sound when ambient noise isn't on, so everything goes muffles. So far, that is the only potential flaw/con/bug I've noticed. The EQ, with my limited experience with them, seems to be very good, and very capable. All of the ranges come through very clearly for me, with the bass being rich and full, and with bass heavy songs it doesn't wash everything else out or become muddy. The mid and high ranges are also crystal clear.Battery life is phenomenal with the ANC off, I use that as my reference point since it's the main way I use them. One bud will last me a large portion of my work day, but I usually switch them out at around 30-40% battery, which is usually at the 4-5 hour mark depending on exactly how loud I'm listening. I can listen to music all day without having to charge the case. Now, again, I am not by any means any audiophile, with a well trained and sensitive ear in that way. I am simply someone who loves music, and enjoys when the music can be heard with all of the depth it's meant to have.I highly recommend these earbuds if you're a music, lover, or regularly consume media in situations you need to remain quiet, but want great sound.

Needs better selection of tips, multipoint no-show

It's no real secret that a pair of earphones needs to fit extremely well and be completely sealed in your ears. Yet somehow on these very expensive Sony flagships, they only include three foam ear tip sets small medium and large. None of them fit my ears. I seriously considered returning these because they just weren't performing well. Without a good seal there is almost no bass and the high end features like noise cancellation and ambient sound certainly don't work at all the way they're supposed to. Also the buds are more likely to fall out if they're not well fitted. Would it kill you Sony to include some extra large and extra small tips as well as some regular rubber flange type tips? These bits cost next to nothing! It's ridiculous to think that there are only ... MoreIt's no real secret that a pair of earphones needs to fit extremely well and be completely sealed in your ears. Also the buds are more likely to fall out if they're not well fitted. Would it kill you Sony to include some extra large and extra small tips as well as some regular rubber flange type tips? These bits cost next to nothing! It's ridiculous to think that there are only three sizes of ears out there. I doubt if anyone would return these if they could get them to fit in their ears well. I ended up trying some rubber flanges from some other extremely cheap earbuds I have and those tips fit far better than anything Sony included. Now, when you get a good seal in your ears these do some nice things. The noise cancellation works very well on low end rumbling rustling sounds. It doesn't work very well on high pitch sounds but the sealed ear tips block most of that anyway. What's really interesting is the ambient mode, where it continues to block some of that low frequency noise and allows you to hear things going on around you. You could wear them this way all day long and talk to people in be safe outside in traffic, and they still sound good on music. One big frustration is the continued lack of multipoint Bluetooth on these, Even though Sony announced months ago that they would bring the feature. Most of us have multiple devices we switch to and multi-point would be a huge selling point, especially on these extremely expensive units in 2023. I for one am listening to these on my S22 phone but typing this on my Samsung tablet. Another gripe is the touch control setup You can change the attributes of left and right bud taps separately but you can't mix and match features. So for instance if you want to control volume, switch between ambient\noise reduction, use Google Assistant, and also use play\pause you cannot do all those things. Even though there are more than enough touch combinations to do probably 8 things at once if you wanted to. There is a convenient widget on Android but you can't assign what the widget can do. You can see what the battery levels are turn adaptive sound control on or off and switch equalizer settings, none of which I find useful. Finally I have to say that all the requests to sign in and sign up for stuff makes setting up these things in the software a much much longer and more tedious process than it ought to be.I recently bought a $16 pair of wireless earbuds for my son and they sound nearly as good as these Sony's, have simple rubber ear tips that fit me, seal up and block a lot of sound without fancy noise reduction, and have volume control and play pause. When I think that I could buy like 15 SETS like that for the cost of the Sony's I think maybe I'm kind of insane for keeping them. Plus I'm having to shell out for some aftermarket ear tips that cost about the same amount of money as these cheap earbuds all in! Yoiks.

Sony makes great products, These earbuds are amazing when it cones to features and customizations, you are able to easily adjust the bass, mids, and highs in the app that sony has you to install, however, I have noticed the sony app can be pretty buggy with IOS devices, an update can easily fix these issues. The sound quality on these are pretty good, there are other options in this price range that sound much better and more fuller, when it comes to the the noise cancellation on these, it is top tier no complaints, its hard to hear around you. The ambient noise/regular mode isnt that great. Also I dont like the fit of these, the ear tips are made from of memory foam instead of the rubber which is more common. The ambient noise/regular mode isnt that great. Also I dont like the fit of these, the ear tips are made from of memory foam instead of the rubber which is more common. Everytime I wore these I’ve had to constantly find myself re-adjusting these to fit comfortably in my ears. They are also very tiring to wear after a while and cause ear fatigue due to how heavy and big these are. These aren’t comfortable at all after an hour of using. These earbuds are desingned only for a select few people, I do wish the bass was more heavy and fuller like the (beats fit pro). The Call quality also takes a huge hit, these only have 4 microphones 2 in each ear bud which picks up more background noise than your voice, (there is no way to fix this issue), calling in quiet environments will work best for these earbuds, but noisy environments, outdoors, car rides, are not good at all. Overall these earbuds are priced too high for what they offer, the customizable options are great for these, but the bass isnt as good as competitors, and the sony app is very buggy and works part of the time, the battery is decent, the fit is horrible, the ear tips are foam which makes it harder to place in your ears and I’ve seen how over time the foam tips would tear and they are pretty expensive to replace. I wouldn’t recommend these. Only for the customizations and look

Bought to replace apple AirPods Gen1.Very happy with the sound and the limited feature set. I really love using the ANC however the speak to chat feature, which is & can be helpful, is also a pain if you like to burst into song & join in. I’ve reverted to removing an earbud if someone talks to me while I’m on ANC mode! They have to grab my attention first to be noticed!Other people who may have noticed me performing dancing steps etc as I push my trolley around the supermarket may have commented, however as I can’t hear them I don’t care!I’ve not been able to pair them successfully with my car (a 2022 vw caddy) which is annoying me but pairing is fast and easy with other devices. I understood it to be a standalone Sony feature .Comfort wise, I’ve got very small ear canals and so use the smallest rubber tip in both ears. I’d ideally have liked one size smaller again. I don’t run or go to a gym but would maybe worry they would fall out if I was excercising vigorously. That said, once I’ve pulled my long hair away & wiggled them into place as shown in app I’ve not had any drop out occur and can move about without worry. An missing app feature that could be used to create sound and/or lights to help a user locate a lost earbud would be a good upgrade which im sure many folk would appreciate (those with children or nosey cats for example) I lost one on day 1 when it fell and rolled under a unit - a light or sound would have assisted in it’s recovery!Good sound, I’ve still to make the most of the features, while some that were promised seem missing/inaccessible and I can see where they could be improved.
