Overall-This is a perfect solution for anyone who doesn’t want to pay big money to local stereo shops, but still wants to improve their sound system. I wanted more control over my sound with a more expansive EQ and wireless CarPlay (for gps). This enables us to do a little easy work ourselves to save a ton of money. I was skeptical of taking my truck apart. I purchased a cheap pry tool kit from Amazon and installed this radio in 10-15 min.As for the radio-Wireless CarPlay was what pushed me to do this, and it is perfect. Super fast, no glitching. The display looks good, the EQ is very customizable. I didn’t care anything about a huge screen, this one is big enough for me and has way more features than the factory head unit. The sound:Anyone with a Tundra with ... The display looks good, the EQ is very customizable. I didn’t care anything about a huge screen, this one is big enough for me and has way more features than the factory head unit. The sound:Anyone with a Tundra with the factory JBL system knows it is horrible. My mods are this radio and the Tech12Volts sub/box combo. Everything is still running on the factory amp and all other speakers are factory. I wanted to upgrade it on the cheap and doing the installs myself (both the radio and the sub took 10-15 min each). Overall, I recommend doing both. For the money, both are improvements. However, the factory amp is what cripples this system, and it still does. Do I have more bass? Yes, only a little more thump, but with much more range. Do the speakers sound better? Yes, with this head unit I have much more control of the sound. Is the system louder? No. Not at all. With windows down, the radio is useless. Phone calls are difficult to hear. This was a bummer as I hoped the radio would help, but it is the same as factory.Finishing statements:If you want a better sound, CarPlay for GPS and such, and a slightly aftermarket look (wallpapers, gauges, etc), then this is perfect for you. The guys here have put together a genius package that allows anyone with basic skill (and no stereo experience) to get great results with little cost compared to paying someone else to do it. They have sent many emails offering help, questioning satisfaction, etc and are always very prompt in their responses. I would do it again if I had the need, no question. The only thing I would add to their instructions:To use the Maestro, you need to route the cable to the plug under your steering wheel in the same way they have you do the Microphone. To use the features for gauges, tire pressure, etc- you have to have that plugged in.Also, inquire with them about having your reverse camera wired where when you put the truck in reverse, it automatically comes on. I wired it like they told me and mine does not do it on reverse (I have to press the rear camera button). They quickly told me how to fix it, but I opted to not take the truck back apart to do it. At least not yet. But you may want to make sure their instructions have been updated, they knew they had an issue with this when I emailed them.Still 5 stars. They earned it.

Wireless android auto is kind of a joke I'm not gonna lie, wireless apple carplay is way better than I expected, and wired android auto has no way of taking priority over wireless. This stereo is good, don't get me wrong, but if it is going to force android auto wireless upon me, it definitely worsens my overall experience. Despite this one major flaw, it's pretty decent. Touch screen is a bit iffy but that's mostly to do with the fact that it's a resistive rather than capacitive. Overall, a good head unit if you're an apple user and an okay one if you're an Android user. It does lack features overall, but if you're looking for a no-frills head unit for your car, this is probably the way to go.

Wireless Android auto is the best. A couple moments after the radio comes online, the maps automatically load. The interface with satellite radio / Sirius XM is great. After the much needed firmware update you are able to fast-forward rewind and pause live satellite, just like you would any other DVR.The sound isn't as good as the previous model XAVAX3250, but should do well enough for most people. The box advertises screen mirroring capabilities but I never found it.I would buy this unit again just for the wireless Android Auto capabilities. Also works with Apple Play.

This is definitely a great after-market radio. It replaced a JVC radio that lasted about a week. I love that it has wireless Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It integrates well with my 2013 Prius (also needed the idatalink maestro for this which is a separate purchase $$$). A decent amount of customizability, but not overwhelming. I love how low profile it is too; other than the Sony brand, there's nothing else unnecessary printed on the front (which was kind of a peeve with other radios). It's matte finish screen makes for a less vibrant image, but it's better that way because the glare was so bad on other radios; especially for my car. The matte screen also means that oily finger smudges aren't as noticeable. As a side note, I did install this myself; I didn't ... MoreThis is definitely a great after-market radio. Worked amazing after I installed it, wiring was straight forward and very easy to understand what was doing what, brackets worked well to mount it, and the unit itself has so many features and capabilities!I wired it myself and did the entire install, never got confused once! The sound quality will depend on your speakers but it is a noticeable upgrade for me by far. The head unit does come with a gps tracker cube that lets you wirelessly connect to Apple Carplay (which is very quick to connect after starting the car) as well as a mic so you can make hands free calls and texts/use Siri features. It does have reverse camera and steering wheel mounted control capabilities but I did not use those as my car isn’t equipped with it and there was no need to add it for my ... TLDR: If you need a head unit, you can buy this one, if you want it done right, look elsewhereThis is an amazing head unit and I 100% recommend it. What I can not recommend is Best Buy’s shoddy recommend installation parts. All the parts I received seemed to be good quality, however for my car, and I would assume many other cars, the OEM radio has multiple wiring harnesses connected to it, but Best Buy told me I would only need one, plus an adapter for the antenna. What this means is that in order to install the head unit, you would need to cut the factory wiring harness and splice the aftermarket head unit’s wiring into it. In the end I just bought a iDataLink maestro from Crutchfield and they told me what harness I would need to buy for a plug and play install. ... Okay I love this stereo. It looks neat, clean, and turns on super fast when you start the car. However, there are a few minor draw backs. When programming the steering wheel controls on the stereo, it won’t let me update the answer/decline buttons. The standard setting seemed to let everything else work as it should. So I have to use my decline button to mute the stereo and answer is used for toggling which media to use (i.e. radio, Apple CarPlay, etc.) The other down side is, once a week, the stereo won’t let me connect to my phone. I have to turn it off then on again. Other than that, it is a great machine and I’m glad I upgraded! (I have a 2016 Nissan Sentra SV if that helps anyone).
I bought a BOSS audio one previously and had Best Buy install it. Maybe due to android auto but the thing would disconnect frequently and it was difficult to use since I'd have to unplug and replug. I bought GeekSquad protection on that though and managed to replace that for this one and cover the difference. This wireless android auto is a game changer and I love it so much. Even modern cars don't have this and it's honestly not that big of a cost to upgrade considering what it provides. It connects automatically on startup and just works without disconnecting. I notice some hiccups occasionally but it's likely due to the Bluetooth connection which you could probably avoid with a direct cable connection instead. Replaced my 25 yrs old stereo on Lexus SUV. It was a big improvement overall from the OEM sound system. But the quality of Sony receiver is sub par. Like most reviewer mentioned, it was hard to see the LCD screen during the day, specially when it's sunny & bright. Setting up with my iphone for carplay was easy. Few times I had hard time connecting to carplay. Seems like there's a considerable amount of lag between my iphone and the Sony receiver. Sound quality from the receiver for music and phone calls are excellent.Only reason I decided to get this model was because of wireless carplay connectivity and it was on sale for $349 plus free installation.
I purchased this unit to replace a Non Apple-play unit. (Pioneer). The pioneer shows active Radio station and title of song or details of station during breaks etc. The Sony I have is not doing that, and it says it natively should do it. This unit is Double the price of the pioneer unit also as it has CarPlay/Android play inbuilt (Wirelessly). After installing it, I needed to upgrade Firmware and to do that you need either an adapter from usb-c to Flashdrive or a flashdrive that is usb-c.I’ve been trying to deal with Sony Australia, and found the experience testing to my patience.Call the customer service number, rather than email or you won’t achieve anything quickly!!Unit is itself nice and works well other than the (RDS/Radio Data System).
