However, most of my phone photos are handheld, and the tripod is reserved for my full frame camera, the Sony a7RIIIA.Cons:1) I will start with my biggest disappointment, the 1-inch image sensor. However, most of my phone photos are handheld, and the tripod is reserved for my full frame camera, the Sony a7RIIIA.Cons:1) I will start with my biggest disappointment, the 1-inch image sensor. Photos do not appear that much better than the iPhone 13 Pro Max, when shooting handheld. iPhone 13 Pro-Max and the Xperia I-Pro both capture photos at 12 megapixels. That is because the Xperia I-Pro only uses 60% of the 1-inch sensor. This leaves the actual sensor utilization slightly larger than the iPhone 13 Pro Max (or the Samsung Galaxy S20 for that matter). In other words, it is like buying a car with 6 wheels, but you really only use 4 wheels (Xperia I-Pro), while Apple/Samsung sell you a car with 4 wheels that uses 4 wheels. I do not get the rationale from Sony for installing a 1-inch sensor that makes the phone more expensive, but only use 60% of the sensor charged to consumers like me.2) The telephoto lens is significantly inferior in my opinion. Xperia I-Pro has a 2x telephoto with an F2.4, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max has a 3x telephoto with an F.2.8. I attached two pictures comparing the telephoto quality shooting at the same distance. The 3X from the iPhone really comes in handy. I did a digital zoom to bring both images to a similar size, and you can read the barcode data better in the iPhone 13 Pro Max. I did the shooting handheld with auto settings.3) Sony advertises this phone as being close to an Alpha camera. I had expectations of using the Capture One Express for Sony cameras. This is a free editing software for true Alpha camera users. I use the Capture One Express free software, when editing pictures from my a7RIIIA. However, the Xperia I-Pro uses DNG for raw format, and the free Capture One Express software does not recognize DNG for photo editing. However, it you buy the full Capture One version for about $200 bucks, you can unlock additional features, plus it will also allow you to edit photos from any kind of camera (Xperia I-Pro, iPhone, Canon, Nikon, etc). Bummer!4) Another missed expectation that I had, given Sony's advertising as being similar to an Alpha camera is that I could use the Sony cloud service called "PlayMemories Online" to store photos with unlimited storage (image size 2mp or less). Currently, I have the PlayMemories Online app installed in my iPhone, and I can upload pictures taken from my a7RIIIA into PlayMemories Online. HOWEVER, you cannot use PlayMemories Online to store unlimited photos taken with the Xperia I-Pro. Sony uses Google Photos to backup your pictures, and you have 5GB of free storage. If you would like to store photos/vides over 5GB, Google can do it for a monthly fee.5) Xperia I-Pro battery -- Wow! that battery gets really hot when shooting videos. I filmed several minutes at its highest resolution, and the back of the phone got so hot that I found it uncomfortable to hold it with my hand. The iPhone 13 Pro Max also gets hot, but not nearly as uncomfortably hot as the Xperia I-Pro.In summary -- I had high expectations with this phone. However, after seeing that the picture quality when shooting handheld was not that much better than my iPhone 13 Pro Max (I also have the Galaxy Note 20, and I prefer the Samsung camera over the iPhone), I returned the Xperia I-Pro. I wish Sony would have disclosed that they installed a 1-inch sensor, but only utilized about 60% of the sensor. I probably would have waited until the next Xperia I-Pro generation.

Excellent creator phone. I use this phone with the vlog kit to create content weekly. Excellent camera. You get better pics using full manual settings. If you're not interested in learning how to use manual mode then you probably need to get a different phone like a pixel or Samsung. Excellent 4k screen when activated, you need 4k content to experience it. Fast and responsive, excellent audio. I strean hi res music on Tidal. Great for gaming also. And the call quality is great. You either have to turn off backup on Google photos or pay for more cloud storage. I use a 512gb memory card and the phone has 512gb of internal memory.

Headphone/auxiliary/microphone jack is still extremely useful and a main reason to go Sony in 2022. The ability to just use my fingers to remove and replace an SD card of up to 1tb plus have 512 gb on board storage. Wrist lanyard helps me feel more confident getting risky shots. ... and that cost is battery life. Now you can get a full day usage out of the 4500mah battery, if you turn off 120hz, but that is a bit like buying a ps5 in order to only run PS4 games on it, it's just not ideal. Now then though, on to the good points. The camera is indeed exceptional, providing crisp images with far less noise than you'd expect out of a phone, sometimes you find yourself having to remind yourself that it's a phone, usually when taking low light shots and you're not forced to ramp up the Iso to rediculous levels thanks to the 2.4um pixel size, you can keep that noise producing iso much lower than you'd expect, or you're used to.The videography app is a godsend, allowing rich vibrant 4k HDR video to be recorded in many FPS including 120fps non ... More... and that cost is battery life. Now you can get a full day usage out of the 4500mah battery, if you turn off 120hz, but that is a bit like buying a ps5 in order to only run PS4 games on it, it's just not ideal. Now then though, on to the good points. The camera is indeed exceptional, providing crisp images with far less noise than you'd expect out of a phone, sometimes you find yourself having to remind yourself that it's a phone, usually when taking low light shots and you're not forced to ramp up the Iso to rediculous levels thanks to the 2.4um pixel size, you can keep that noise producing iso much lower than you'd expect, or you're used to.The videography app is a godsend, allowing rich vibrant 4k HDR video to be recorded in many FPS including 120fps non slow-mo, allowing users to really use that 120hz display to its limit. Of course though, you can also use that 120fps to produce some great HDR slow motion footage, far nicer footage than previously possible which also is immediately recognised by YouTube as native 4k HDR, a nice bonus for sharing content. The photo pro app is absolutely perfect for this camera, switching between auto and the more manual modes is far less bothersome than before, previously I almost never used auto mode, it always seemed more restrictive in a way but with this sensor, it really seems to hit the mark much better, and faster, than before. The Xperia Pro-I is a fantastic stepping stone for Xperia, almost a resurrection of the "premium" models of older generations, it's great to have the 1" sensors finally arrive on mobile(yes, even if cropped) the visible difference in photography and videography on mobiles are very apparent and so much better than I expected

Great 4K HDR 120fps Camera, bad Phone

Upgraded from Xperia Z5 Compact after 8 years to Xperia Pro-I but after 12 hours of use very quicky the flaws became frustatingly annoying. The FingerPrint Sensor is always ON so in Pocket if your Finger/Thumb Touches it - you would be dialing you Mum/Dad as Emergency Pocket Dial. The FingerPrint Sensor is always ON so in Pocket if your Finger/Thumb Touches it - you would be dialing you Mum/Dad as Emergency Pocket Dial. Last but not the least, I really miss simply double tapping on an empty area of the home screen to standby the phone - hate having to reach the power button all the time - no point anyways as the finger print sensor wakes it up all the time...

It's just OK.

I bought the Xperia Pro I thinking this would be the greatest phone ever and have some serious regrets. Based on the specs and camera alone its was really appealing to me. I mean a headphone jack, expandable storage and 4k resolution screen it was a must have for me. My regrets started soon after I received the phone some of the essential apps I use were not available for the Xperia Pro I. I have type 2 diabetes and needed a continuous blood glucose monitor app and I was disappointed to find it was not supported. The screen itself is OLED and gorgeous but smaller than I am used to, difficult to type on and almost useless in direct sunlight at max brightness.Watching videos and reviewing photos on this screen is a bit of a bummer because of the size of the screen. ... MoreI bought the Xperia Pro I thinking this would be the greatest phone ever and have some serious regrets. If you prefer the slim aspect ratio this might be for you but for me I regret it.4k resolution of the screen was a selling point as well but I cant tell the difference from my old phone. It isn't noticeable on a screen this size I suspect.Finding a case for it was a challenge.I am a photographer and was extremely excited about the specs of the cameras and had high hopes for being able to leave my main cameras at home for travels. This was not the case for me. They are just OK. I have taken some great photos with it both jpegs and raw but they are anything but mind blowing. The camera tech alone was the main selling point for me and to me they are not outstanding in any way. Yes they are better than the Samsung S20 ultra I had been using simply for the fact of using less computational enhancements but cannot compete with my very old Lumix GX85 16mp micro 4/3 camera. I prefer to use light room as little as possible when reviewing and editing photos and with the Xperia Pro I I found myself needing to edit almost all the photos taken.I don't hate the cameras but for the extremely premium price I paid for the phone, I have to say I am disappointed.I am a cell phone junky and have to have the latest and greatest tech phones can offer and was hooked by the the specs of this phone. I figured with camera quality I would be needing the expandable storage because I would be snapping away but that's not been the case. For the price I paid for this phone I am filled with feelings of regret, It's just OK.

Sony Xperia Pro-I is a unique device class
28 March 2023

The Xperia PRO-I is essentially a professional camera that just happens to be an Android phone as well. I have had several of the, 'Sony 'HandyCam' camera's', and was looking for another upgrade to them. My old Xperia phone broke and was also out of date, so when I seen the Xperia PRO-I, and checked the specs, it covered all the bases and more, way more! I'm no professional photographer, I mean I learned how to develop photographs in a dark room years ago, but I'm no 'pro' at it. This device takes an amateur photographer like me, on the journey of gaining and learning from experience with the device itself. For a professionals it must be like a walk in the park, easy and familiar ground. I got mine while on sale, it is expensive.

Superb all round Camera Phone
19 May 2022

Let me start by saying that the Xperia Pro-I doesn’t have a 1 inch sensor, it has a 1 inch type sensor. Basically this means that it has been cropped to fit in a mobile handset. But it still has the worlds best imaging sensor in a phone. This doesn’t mean it will give better photos than other lesser mobiles but it has the potential if you know photography and you’re willing to learn how to get the results you want - just how you would with a digital camera. So apart from the camera how does this handset perform? - Superbly, phone call clarity is as good as you can get anywhere. It feels smaller in the hand than you would expect a phone with a 6.5 inch screen. As for the screen - this is the other worlds best - it’s vibrant and has a 1st class colour balance. It makes the screen on the latest ‘fruit’ company’s display look downright washed out. I haven’t noticed any issues with a lack of brightness. Construction of the handset looks and feels top notch but the vote on durability will obviously have to wait. I’m not too impressed with the tool less SIM card tray, I prefer the security of the pin tool type but it works and hasn’t fallen out yet. Brilliant to see and use a 3.5mm headphone jack - YES! Battery life? This handset is a power hungry monster so if you use it a lot the battery will drain rather quickly. Sony hasn’t yet found a way to change the laws of physics. If you want a phone with these specs to last a day or more it would likely have to be at least twice as thick. Highly recommended, if you’re in to photography and you want a absolutely superb handset just go for it! The price is expensive but not when you factor in the fact that you are getting a fully functioning digital camera in a body with a brilliant mobile phone with an out of the world screen - it’s worth every penny.

Well-rounded flagship smartphone with no compromis
5 April 2023

This is such a special phone! I'm not into niche tech, I own an iPhone and appreciate it for how well it handles the ho-hum smartphone tasks. I was looking for an Android phone with solid specs, good build, and clean software. The Sony XPERIA PRO-I is a mouthful of a name, but it really is something special to use.PROS:- Excellent build quality- Stock Android is fast and clean- Sci-fi camera hardware with granular software control- Android fanboy fanservice specs like SD card slot and headphone jack- Solid core specs with no comprisesCONS:- Less popular phone model, so big name accessory manufacturers skipped this model. Say OtterBox cases and dBrand skins- Very expensive but so worth it- Will Sony make a successor to this?
