We purchased this for our year 7 son to use at intermediate. Purchased last week of Jan, but half the key functions wouldn’t work, such as calling or texting, and chat worked sporadically. After 2 weeks of persevering, we returned in store and swapped for another. We had the same issues, so went to the phone company to rule out issues with the sim/number/plan - all was fine. In the end, we upgraded to the Adventurer, had it for the last 2 days and it does everything with no issues, we wish we purchased this one in the first place.

This watch was hard work to set up but now its working its amazing. It doesn't come with instructions so had to look them up online. The simcard has to be inserted when watch is off or it won't register. The watch is set up for 4g calling but NZ doesn't support 4g calling, so the sim still needs to be put on a plan with minutes and texts. Once we got this all set up we have had no issues. Can track my sons location, and he phones me all the time. Its not easy to text from but no watch is in all fairness. I like that only approved contacts can contact my son. And the school mode works perfectly so during school time it functions solely as a watch. Perfect intermediate step for a child craving independence but is too young for a phone.

I bought this as a christmas present for my son to give him a way of communicating with us, friends etc in a controlled way without social media, youtube etc.Essentially a waste of money. While I can hear him clearly the speaker on the device is so poor all he hears is crackling and after much frustration just have to revert to inefficient messaging.The support from spacetalk has been underwhelming and I would recommend to anyone to not waste their money on this device.

Drains phone battery that is tracking devices, mostly accurate but delayed on notifying when leaving places only notifies every 15 minutes when updates (if you have more frequent updates drains battery more)Kids unable to send texts as no keyboard - but you can write pre-made texts on the app to add to there device or they can voice message on the app.
I can't believe I bought this product for close to $300. I don't think the toys are of this quality. I bought it because I liked the concept, but it is a disappointing product. User convenience is not considered at all, it is inconvenient to use, and it is a 2G level product in the 5G era. In addition to the app usage fee, I would never recommend it. I have no ill feelings toward this company or product. I had a lot of regrets while setting up the product. I lost $300.
Battery won’t last close to a day, even after following all the recommendations.There is no full keyboard on this watch either so very limited in responses.The basic function of calling is ok.
The screen is extremely slow to respond to taps. It's basically unusable, especially for kids who can't understand waiting 5 seconds after tapping. The changes made in the app also don't reliably sync. I deleted a contact but it stayed on the watch. I have to factory reset and re-set up the watch every time I delete a contact. Very disappointing device. Don't bother.
No longer does the Spark wearable plan support spacetalk, wish I'd known this before purchasing - what a rigmarole. Spacetalk 0800 number never picks up, once watch was set up on skinny prepay plan all was well
I have bought the watch purchased a plan via Spark (Smartplan) and subscribed to the required app. The watch can receive and send messages, but won't make or receive calls. No issues at Sparks end they can see. The NZ Spacetalk 0800 number does not work, and they are only reachable via email. It should be simple plug and play, but doesn't work, and the support is not there.
Just bought the watch for our child added spark service and paid for the Loop app service. Everything works but we are not able to call the watch and neither we can call the family ( which has been added on the watch ). the message appears on our phone as the "user is busy". Not sure what the issue is. I saw another review similar to ours although have not seen anything regarding the fix....
