Really do wish SP could come out with customized build where you get to pick the frame, color, drivetrain and etc.

I've had my Sirrus X 5.0 for about a month now, put about 400mi on it. This is a great commuting, gravel and light trail bike. It's light and fast, very nimble. Now the downside.. For the price of this bike, you'd think you'd get a decent component package. Not.... Crank and Bottom Bracket creaked excessively on first ride out the LBS. A couple of tweaks here and there to the crank arms and BB the sound went away. A week later the creak came back. As for the brakes, $60 dollar brakeset on a $2500 dollar bike? Really? Mind you.... depends on your riding style, ME, I ride hard and fast and I need stopping power, not slowing power. So I upgraded to Shimano SLX 2 piston, carbon handlebars and seatpost. I would have given it a 5/5 rating if the cassette were better. Maybe mountain bikers are used to this amount of deviation in a cassette, but coming more from the road, it feels sloppy.

My body struggles with drop bar geometry and prefers the flat bar set up on mountain bikes and road bikes. I have an older sirrus for the road and was excited to see the "X" series when it was introduced. This bike is a blast to ride and can go just about anywhere. I've ridden it on road, gravel, and some tame mountain bike trails. Even did Unbound 100 with this bike. Love the simplicity of the 1x drivetrain. Like others have said, some components could be better. I've upgraded my drivetrain to GRX cranks, Wolftooth chainring, and SRAM cassette and chain. Shifts better now than when I first got the bike. Also switched out the seatpost for the Roval Terra Carbon Seat Post. Well worth the money. 400 mile off road update to my previous review.I mounted a 45c WTB Riddler up front and a 45c Rambler on the rear and now ride primarily hardpack trails and smooth single track chasing Strava scores. I live and ride in a very competitive area of Denver where many pros and high level amateur MTB riders train and race. The trails are smooth, twisty and dry; perfect conditions for a flat bar hybrid like the Sirrus X 4.0 that combines gravel bike efficiency with an MTB attack position for aggressive cornering. I've earned three KOMs on this bike, and am sitting at #2 of 3,100 riders on a fast twisty downhill segment. I've earned several top 5% to 10% scores in twisty single track segments of a heavily ridden race course. Admittedly, this old Clyde is only running at the 60th percentile on climbs, but the Sirrus X is so light and efficient that it makes me look like a decent climber. This bike rocks with good ergos and adequate bottom bracket height for hard pedaling through corners. The geometry is ideal for twisty single track at 15 to 25 mph, and the Future Shock/carbon fork take just enough of the edge off the bumps without robbing any pedalling efficiency or handling precision.The two negatives to this bike are the wheel set and the gearing. The 24/28 spoked wheels are light. but a bit flimsy for a bike touted as a go anywhere type of ride. They require frequent truing if you ride hard. The gearing is a bit of a tweener that is too low for fast road riding, yet it could use one lower gear for steep climbs offroad.Otherwise, I've had no problems with loosening crank arms or any atypical issues. Sure, the shift assembly came loose and the spokes need frequent attention, but that has been my experience with any bike ridden hard and aggressively. I love this bike an I'm having a very hard time convincing myself that I could be faster or more efficient on MTB trails with an Epic Hardtail or Chisel.

I bought my Sirrus X 4.0 back in June 2020 at the height of the pandemic. It was literally the only bike I could find in all of Houston in an XL frame and was way more than I planned on spending but after having my $400 Haro mtn bike stolen off the road after falling off rack before I could turn around and pick it up I desperately wanted a replacement. I found this bike. I read a lot about it before going to pick it up about the left crank falling off so I made sure to say something to the guys at the shop. They were well aware of this and actually showed me they had already fixed the issue and even put a marker on it that showed it was fixed. I’ve had this bike for almost 3 years now and I still love it. PROBLEM WITH MY SIRRUS 3.0

The left crank arm fell off during the first 20+ miles of riding. This is the first time in the 35+ years that I've been riding, that such a problem has ever occurred with a brand new bike. I've found the gearing to be too LOW for the kind of riding I do. I've changed the crank set to a 48X34 double to replace the 46X30 double that the bike was originally equipped with. If you live in a hilly area, the original crank may work well for you, but I ride in fairly flat terrain and need higher gearing. Other than these issues, I've enjoyed riding the bike. I really like the Microshift shifters that were original equipment on the bike. You must pull the shifter lever twice to downshift the front derailleur. I liked that the bike has a steel fork so road vibrations are at a minimal I would not want an aluminum fork. I like Steel or Carbon. The tires are excellent. The disk brakes work well no squeaks. I thought the 8 speed was a little too slow. It was easy and inexpensive to upgrade using a Microshift 9 speed shifter, Microshift 9 speed cassette and 9 speed chain, I was happy the rear derailleur did not need to be changed! My bike has a strange squeak cranking steep uphills, also the plastic chain guard had to be ripped off as it is garbage and somehow got it self all chewed up in the front crank. I had to rip it off or be stranded, got a little greasy but that chain guard is not needed and a flaw in it's design for sure. Brought it in for the crank recall and within 100 miles, crank loosened up to the point of being almost unridable. Brought it in for another tightening of the crank. Rode great for about 40 miles and is now loose and creaking again. Posts online abound with stories of the L crank arm totally falling off mid ride. I believe this scenario is likely: the crank arm is unstable and cannot be reliably secured. Meanwhile, what the heck was Specialized thinking when they routed the Rear Derailleur cable? The cable cannot be reliably secured against the chainstay: the zip ties invariably fail, leaving the cable to catch onto your foot when pedaling. This has happened several times, and in the last episode, the cable frayed and could no longer power the derailleur. This has happened several times, and in the last episode, the cable frayed and could no longer power the derailleur. We have owned 3 previous Specialized bikes and loved them all. But the Sirrus has been a real disappointment, and borders on a dangerously flawed design. Avoid this bike until specialized gets its act together.

Owned the 2019 version of this bike, which cost $500 less and was a better bike. Unfortunately, it was stolen in 2021. I replaced it with the same model. This version (released in 2021) despite a 50% price increase, has some downgrades: gear shifters no longer have a gear indicator. Second is the quality of the pedals. Google the issue, and you will find horror stories about pedals breaking while people are riding. Mine broke within months of moderate casual use, were replaced at the shop, and the replacement pedals are now breaking. Before buying the bike I asked the shop about this issue and they assured me that Specialized recalled/fixed the issue, but obviously that's not the case.It's a great bike otherwise, but for the egregious pricing I don't expect to be ... MoreOwned the 2019 version of this bike, which cost $500 less and was a better bike.
