2nd real review, Sperry do what you do best

I have always loved all the products from the classic blue canvas Sperry with razor cut gum sole for sailing and boating sneaker, and every day use, which is what I wanted to purchase!I recently purchased 2 pairs of similar Sperry sneakers including the pair I am reviewing. Neither are as comfortable as the many pairs of classic Sperry canvas "blue stripe" gum sole sneakers. Also I do not like or see the reason for a rawhide lace that came with them both. They have a ridge you feel are leather, not suitable for water use, and frankly are hard to loosen and do not stay tied as a simple shoe lace can and should stay. I can not even wear them very long. If they do not "break in" soon, i am considering returning the shoes.I strongly urge Sperry to head the review ... MoreI have always loved all the products from the classic blue canvas Sperry with razor cut gum sole for sailing and boating sneaker, and every day use, which is what I wanted to purchase!I recently purchased 2 pairs of similar Sperry sneakers including the pair I am reviewing. I will continue to be a loyal Sperry consumer however I am disappointed in both my purchases this time. So I am giving these a 3 star. I have another pair that are the same color and I love them. so I wanted to buy the exact same ones. I brought these new shoes on a trip knowing that they are comfy. I wore them with thicker no show socks that I usually don’t wear. I started to feel pain on my achilles. Well it started blistering so I had to run back to the hotel and get some flip flops. So maybe it was the thicker socks but I will find out this weekend when I wear them again.

I returned these. I bought 3 pair, slightly different styles. The Striper II CVOs made of similar material don't breathe so well. My feet get a little sweaty in them. Hoping the Striper II Baja with different natural blend material breaths better. The pair I bought last year (not sure of exact style) that aren't synthetic were great, but the soles wore thru. They all get 5 stars for a comfortable fit.

Essential and timeless summer footwear
22 August 2022

I love Sperry canvas shoes / sneakers. Own several pairs of the Striper and 2 recent "seacycled" versions, in different colors. Highly breathable, stylish and never out-of-fashion. My preferred style is "preppy" but these are not confined in any way to that preference. Quite adaptable. These are not for long walks on bumpy terrain, as little in way of arch support. But, still a timeless classic. Perfect for beach-outings and casual walks.

Functions exactly like a shoe
10 April 2023

I really have no problems with it. If you've ever worn any other similar style of shoe (like Vans), then this shoe is basically the same. The main difference to me is that the shoelaces are some type of leathery material instead of the normal shoelacey material. I do feel like this prevents me from having the confidence to really tie them tightly, but that's not an issue for me. They don't feel like they're going to fall of, and I'm just wearing them around the office anyway so I don't expect them to go flying off anytime soon. And if it's an issue for you, you can always just buy new shoelaces or take the old ones off the old shoes you are replacing and lace them upon these bad boys.

More broken laces
7 May 2023

I'm seeing a recurring theme in the reviews posted here. I bought my STS24715 pair to replace a previous pair of a completely different style. These look great and are comfortable. Unfortunately, one of the laces broke the third time I tried to tie them. I tied a (temporary) knot in that lace so I could wear them anyway. Where can I find replacements? Better yet, can Sperry send me replacements in a better-quality lace?

Not what they used to be

I originally ordered the Striper II Ombre CVO size 11M to replace the same 11M pair that I have been wearing and enjoying for many years but finally needed to be replaced due to the soles wearing out - completely normal due to the time frame. I tried on my new Ombres only to find them to be extremely tight width wise (not length) so I decided to return them at a $5.00 loss (restocking fee) and order an 11W. Not available in the Ombre so I settled for the Striper II CVO (slightly more expensive but no big deal). My new 11W Striper II CVOs are also very tight width wise and the left sneaker makes a cracking noise with every step. I am not going to keep returning these at a $5.00 loss until I find the right size (if even possible at this point because there is no ... MoreI originally ordered the Striper II Ombre CVO size 11M to replace the same 11M pair that I have been wearing and enjoying for many years but finally needed to be replaced due to the soles wearing out - completely normal due to the time frame. This just seems to be another unfortunate example of the product somehow getting tighter over time. ( I am old enough where my feet stopped growing at least 25 years ago and have not gained any weight in case you were wondering.) Hope this honest review helps future customers make a better decision.

Painful miserable sneakers
12 April 2022

Even with a snug fit and socks, they rubbed my Achilles heels raw. If I hadn't taken them off on my walk, the backs of these sneakers would be caked in blood. Also, a nit pick but these are a little loud on hard indoor surfaces. The toe box did hurt my toes a bit but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and’ll say my toe rows are wide. Although a comfortable step, the sole and insole combined feel flimsy and do not make for a very sturdy ride. I feel that when the insole cushioning bottoms out and I suspect that'll be very soon, these will have lost a sparse redeeming quality, becoming quickly both uncomfortable and flimsy. The sole as well doesn’t seem like it’ll be half as durable as those of its competitors. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself talking about ... MoreEven with a snug fit and socks, they rubbed my Achilles heels raw. I’m getting a bit ahead of myself talking about durability, because I refuse to have to my skin sheered by my sneakers. After one wear the white bottom becomes filthy and I suspect you'll be out of a luck for a refund.

These are the best CVO sneaker in this sentence.

The vapor color ombre cvo is an excellent alternative to a boring white sneaker. It pairs up the same way. Classy yet tough. On point but carefree. Not many shoes can pull this of.Not entirely a fan of the brighter colored versions in aqua and pinkish red. I would like to see a washed “ dark navy” ombré to accompany the “vapor” in the lineup. Maybe a couple gum sole versions too. These shoes would also benefit from the vintage Sperry logo being applied rather than the standard blue rectangle. They are in fact better than Vans, More comfortable, better construction and fit the same bill. I hope Sperry runs with my advice here. This shoe should have a lot more energy applied to marketing it as a classy upgrade to Vans and other canvas imitators. Be the OG. The twill/ombré cvo varieties are a level above the standard canvas.Summary and fit…The Ombré vapor cvo is one of my favorite shoes. They’re extra comfortable and the fabric is softer than canvas. They also have padding in the below ankle area. Just a few tweaks and it could be everybody’s favorite. Buy them anyway. Size down a half size. Most CVO run generously roomy. I’m an 11 but wear a 10.5 in these consistently.
