Bought this telecaster as I wanted one to add to my collection, was a bit nervous having ready mixed reviews but to my delight I was very happy.I’d already purchased a set of Tex led pickups so i swapped them out before plugging it in.Neck felt good, no fret sprouting and once set up plays very well, far beyond what I expected. The contour on the back of the body, while not traditional, is a nice touch and the butterscotch finish looks great!Yes it’s a budget guitar but if you are prepared to have it set up you’ll be very pleased!

This guitar was at a price point that I could not hate myself if it was junk but if I liked it would be a steal. This guitar is awesome!! The fret work was clean and no burred or uneven fret ends. It was perfect right out of the box. I run it through my headrush mx5 and into my ev30m and it is great!!! This is my main gigging guitar now and I used to be exclusively an acoustic player. Bought this guitar because I'm going to college and didn't wanna risk my fender Strat getting stolen. Overall the frets needed some work though to be fair not as much as I expected, mainly just some sharp edges and sprout though they were surprisingly level out of the box. I'd recommend also getting some drop in locking tuners if you can find them since this guitar slips out of tune quickly with anything past .9 gauge strings. The only gripe I really have with this guitar that would cost more than a couple dollars to fix is that compared to the bridge pickup the neck pickup is really low in output.

I picked this model for its low price, light weight, Indian laurel fret board, belly carve, and overall just a great looking guitar. First the good: (1) the neck was very nice and playable right out of the box, after I spent an hour making the frets, fret ends, neck, and fingerboard buttery smooth it is perfect; (2) it balances nicely even though it is a full 2lbs lighter than my Nashville Tele; (3) the belly cut and color are great, it is a beautiful guitar. The thicker, rounder neck is actually quite comfortable to play (versus the super flat and thin Ibanez necks I'm used to), and the single-coil sound is pretty nice playing clean. The finish and overall build quality is very good considering the price and being made in China-- that surprised me.The Indian laurel fingerboard I got is much lighter than what is shown in the pictures here and compared to all my other rosewood fingerboard guitars, but has a much more pronounced wood grain which I think looks great.The one bad thing is the tuning machines. They had some surface corrosion that didn't look good, but more importantly, they went out of tune too easily and also were not as smooth and linear. So I changed them out. I also changed out the string tree (first guitar of mine that doesn't have a tilt headstock) to a roller-type. I lined all the cavity with copper shielding tape as I do to all my guitars, and I also changed out the pickguard, and added a kill switch. I dressed the frets and oiled the fingerboard with gun stock oil. With the mods, for under 300, I have an awesome, great looking guitar that I love playing.

As for the paintwork of the guitar, there is a small “patchy” bit on the tummy cut on the back of my own but I quite like it and feel it gives it character, truth be told you wouldn’t notice it if you weren’t looking for it, so I saw no reason to return the guitar based on that. My overall review on the affinity series tele would be a solid 8/10 based on my own experience. Of course this rating will vary because of the mass production value in these guitars but no matter if it’s these guitars or the big brands such as fender or Gibson there is always going to be bad and good examples so don’t let that cloud your judgment. Excellent service from Anderson’s and was delivered to my door within 2 days, ordered on the Sunday evening and delivered to the south west of Scotland by the Tuesday. Do yourself a favour and grab a bargain of a guitar with plenty of room to modify down the line if you choose to !

The saddles are better than what usually comes on a Squier. But be careful, as they can strip easily when adjusting the action.I would recommend that you define the string, prior to raising the saddle height. Less chance of stripping the screw holes that way.Ease of Use:There is going to be a learning curve with these guitars, if you are not accustomed to setting up guitars.The truss rod seems to have a bit of a delayed reaction when making adjustments. If you have to make a big adjustment, let the guitar sit overnight before checking the relief in the neck. Mine actually had a flatter adjustment the day after I set it, and I then had to loosen it a bit.Quality:The guitar is actually made very well. Mine had the tightest neck pocket I have ever dealt with on a Fender product. That is a good thing. I won’t have to be worried about realigning the neck. However, as the seasons change, it may be more prone to getting a finish crack at the pocket. Just F.Y.I. Keep the temperature and humidity relatively constant during the year and this can be avoided.Also, check the levelness of the frets with a rocker before you change the strings. I discovered five frets that were sticking up. After tapping them down, they were all level.I did have pokey feet ends on this guitar. There is a special file used for addressing this, and if you aren’t a repair person, you probably don’t have one.Value:This guitar is really good at its price point and should serve you well for many years to come.As it is less than 250 dollars, one would do well to get a pro setup done before making any judgements about the playability or build quality.Manufacturer Support:I have had to deal with Fender customer service only once in the 40+ years I have been using their products. If you have a concern with your Fender product, reach out to zZounds first as they can usually facilitate getting any problems resolved, and have good relations with manufacturers reps.The Wow Factor:I am really impressed with the quality of this guitar at this price point. The issues I had with it are typical of any electric guitar, at many even higher prices. I was really impressed that the guitar sounds as good as it does. This probably isn’t going to be the best pickup configuration if you play with really high gain. It’s not going to get the tone you want for death metal or doom. But it has a classic tone great for classic rock, jazz, country, or many other genres. I play through a Mesa/Boogie Mark V head. With the gain between 12 and 2 O’clock I can get some really great Rock tones.Overall:A great guitar for very little money.
I feel compelled to tell people about this guitar. I have been playing and buying guitars for 40 years. Maybe I got a good one but this guitar is awesome. I've had it for about 4 years. I thought I would upgrade because I have been into country music lately. This guitar feels better than 90% of the Telecasters I have tried. I did buy a very nice Reverend Eastsider but to be honest I still like the Squire neck better. Way better than my band mates mim Fender. The Reverend sounds better but not buy much. The squire neck is a little more narrow which I like.

Ordering/Shipping: The guitar arrives 18.5 hours after I ordered it! I t was packed well2. Finish: The finish is flawless, not a scratch, dent, overspray or buffing swirl. Very impressive finish3. Parts: The tuners are small but tight and solid. Pots are firm and smooth to turn, the knurled knobs are solid and surprisingly hefty. The saddles are higher quality than expected and the selector switch is sturdy and smooth. The frets did need a quick filing on the ends, they weren't horrible but didn't pass the sock test. I also had to do a quick setup and fix the intonation. The nut was well cut and the action is low without fret buzz.4. Sound: Unplugged the guitar sings and has great sustain. The plugged in sound is decent, the bridge pick up is clear, bright and articulate, the neck pickup however is muddy and leaves a lot to be desired. Not a big deal though, at this price point a pick up upgrade would still keep it in budget rangeAfter a quick setup and some minor fret work it's a great player and punches well above it's price point and with a pickup upgrade it would hold it's own with the $1000-1500 range of guitars
