A few rough spots, but pretty good overall

This is the 5th Squier I've purchased, and the second Jazz bass (the first was an Affinity series for my son, who also plays). We've had good luck in the past with their products, and at this price I expected it to be even better than the other guitars and bass we had. This has alot going for it, but a few negatives. First, the negatives. The build quality was not at all what I expected for a bass in this price range. There was a chunk of fretboard wood sticking up behind one of the frets that required filing down. The fretboard itself is ok, but it has some rough cuts across the grain like what you see on alot of the cheap Bullet series guitars. I went to replace the bridge with a Hipshot w/ brass saddles, and underneath the stock one was a deep, V-shaped gouge ... MoreThis is the 5th Squier I've purchased, and the second Jazz bass (the first was an Affinity series for my son, who also plays). Luckily not visible (all visible paint was flawless). That being said, it has a great feel and sound. The frets were well finished with rounded edges. Intonation was actually spot on from the factory, too, which I've never experienced before in any price range. Plus it does have a classy, vintage vibe to it that makes you just want to pick it up and play. This is definitely my new go-to for practicing and playing out. It also makes a great mod platform.

Amazing fit and finish and tone for the price...

Those basses were alright, but I always had setup issues and they never felt 'solid.' After having a fantastic experience with my last Squier bass purchase in 2012 (Classic Vibe P-Bass in Fiesta Red), I was blown away at how much better the newer Squiers seemed to be than even the 'standard' Mexican-made Fender basses. Fast forward to now, and I really liked the new 2019 run of Classic Vibe basses, particularly the colors. I checked all over for cosmetic defects, a warped neck, rough fret ends, anything that seemed out of alignment or just 'off' compared with my Laklands and other higher-end basses. I could find nothing wrong. All I did was change strings, do a quick fretboard cleaning and fret polishing, and then set up and intonate the bass and adjust the pickups slightly. In terms of sound and feel, this bass could easily cost double what I paid for it. Throaty and full, it's a Jazz Bass through and through. The only part that could be a deal-breaker for some is the weight. Mine is not light... at 11 lbs it's probably the heaviest bass that I own, but with a wide enough strap I can hang with it because it plays so well. As long as you're okay with the 'Squier' name instead of Fender, which I am, you can't go wrong taking a chance on these basses. Sure there may be a lemon here and there, but when you get a winner like I did, it's a fantastic instrument.

Fretless Beast
26 December 2022

This is a beast. You will need to hydrate the fingerboard, adjust the truss rod, set the action and intonate it. Basic setup. After that, you have a fully functional fretless bass at your disposal. It sounds great, looks sexy ... What more could you want? For a Squier, I'm pleasantly surprised!

Great bass overall, especially at this price point!
17 September 2020

I had ordered one and picked her up at GC today. Right out of its box I tuned her up and she felt great. I'm very particular about action/setup but I don't see where an additional setup right now will do that much more for this instrument. The factory intonation seems very good and the fit-n-finish is excellent. This bass is well made: the fit of the neck and body is excellent, the finish (black) is even with a proper feel to, pick guard is cut well and the neck feels righteous. I'd read some reviews that bummed out on the color of the fret board, that it wasn't dark enough. The fret board on mine looks fine, materials used being what they are. Though some aficionados/snobs might say different, the tone is what you'd expect from a Fender Jazz Bass. Only with a most ... MoreI had ordered one and picked her up at GC today. Though some aficionados/snobs might say different, the tone is what you'd expect from a Fender Jazz Bass. Only with a most critical eye will I say how the fret edges could use only the slightest (slightest) filing, how there's a small, faint finish blemish where the neck meets the body on the E-string side and how there's an almost imperceptible tool mark on the first fret near the E and nut. But those three items only add to the vibe (face it- folks would part with a lot more(!) money for a legit 60's Jazz that plays as well as mine does but was also beat to hell lol).Get one today: GREAT value, GROOVE, UTILITY, looks COOL and you won't beat the price unless your uncle Fritz decides to give you his bass because he no longer plays. Really.

I decided to take up bass, thought I'd ball out and get a nice setup to start (probs not the best idea). This bass is stunning for a beginner, makes you feel like flea or James Jameson it's wicked. But it's hard to get the hang of.Good gear just makes it so you don't have to worry about the instrument and set-up issues, just focus on practicing. If you have gear issues it really puts you off practicing, particularly for a beginner. I'd super recommend the squire basses/guitars, cool looking quality stuff from a reputable brand for kinda cheapo

Nice entry level fretless
19 December 2022

Can I afford a professional Fender? No, unless I want to make payments for the next two years. This is a great entry into the fretless style. Good for practice. The Fender roundwounds make alot of noise when sliding...will be changing them out soon to a flatwound T.I. or similar.

Review of Squier Classic Vibe 60s Jazz Bass Laurel Fingerboard Daphne Blue
22 January 2023

This bass guitar is amazing value for money, certainly for a beginner and indeed even for the more advanced player; the latter might want to further tweak the setup to suit their own playing style and/or strings preference. The guitar looks fantastic, sounds great and plays really well. For a bass guitar, it is quite light and very well balanced and is very comfortable to play. Straight "out of the box" it was correctly set up to Fender's own specifications and there was a plastic film protecting the rather nice scratch plate with another piece of plastic protecting the bridge pickup.

Squier Bass - Perfect way to kick the journey off
23 February 2021

I still remember the grand opening of the Birmingham store over 2 years ago now. Warm and welcoming staff was just the start. Prior to this was researching different Bass Guitars and trying to find a music shop I can trust and continuing purchasing from.Got this amazing instrument along with a hard case for an amazing price - VALUE for money the PMT are the best.I kicked my journey off with learning James Brown I feel good. The tone, sharpness and response. Not to mention the sound I was getting when Plugging into an app. It is very rare to have an instrument that sounds great unplugged and then amazing plugged in.I never found anything off this quality close to this price. It is worth getting 100%

im not a fretless mwah junkie....i try to hit dead on and play normal tones and when i want some additional character on the note then great, its there. i like the softer fretboard wood as it doesn't seem as bright as ebanol. i played around with some tapewounds, flats and half rounds and finally found a light gauge ghs bassics (roundwound) to give me the sound i wanted and settled on. once intoned and you get your strings right is a nice sounding jazz bass...i pretty much keep the neck PU at max and the bridge PU at 1/3 and the tone at about 1/3 of max...this is my tone of preference, essentially p-bass sounding. nice heft and balance and a good starter fretless though now i wish it wasnt lined. knobs and finish all seemed good to go with no issues.
