I have used my sharpener now for well over twenty years and it is still going strong. It is very easy to use and produces a very good point on well made pencils. DO NOT use cheap pencils where the lead is not in the centre. I have bought many of them for family and friends and they all love their sharpener.

This is the 4th of this type of sharpener I have bought and this is so far the best. Love the fact it sharpens larger pencils like Cretacolor and square ones and it doesn't chew up the outside of the pencil like another one I have. Would definitely buy again.

+ Ease of operation+ Solid design- High price tag for such poor results- Cannot sharpen its own brand of Pencils (Staedler), nor pencils that aren't.The issue I had with this is that even after adjusting the silver dial and giving a few good rotations on the crank, the pencils come only half-sharpened. Yes they do technically get sharpened, but you get far better results on a traditional sharpener consisting of a plastic shell with a single blade.The poor sharpening aside, the general build quality and features of this sharpener is great. If you want to get a nice soft tip on a colouring pencil then this will do the job, but if you want a nice fine sharp tip on a graphite pencil, look elsewhere.

Two days after arriving this had completely stopped sharpening, the lever just spinning uselessly. $80 for a pencil sharpener I expected a lot better than that
Purchased this pencil sharpener several months ago, but a spring mechanism has failed. Pencil sharpener cannot be used, as per instructions.
Been sharpening everything with it ... crayons, pencils, gardening sticks, barbecue skewers etc ... great fun & great results. In fact I think I'll become a travelling stick- sharpener just like the knife- grinder in the old days! Would recommend this product to all those people who start to get anxious and frustrated as their pencil becomes more blunt. It turns what would otherwise be a hit-or-miss battle in getting a satisfying point on your pencil into a joyous, successful triumph! Thank you Staedtler.
Sharpens all types of Pastel Pencils to a sharp point without any failures so far. The point adjustment and pencil stop work really well. At the price I expected some problems, but no point in spending more if the one I have is typical of the product. Have sharpened about 500 pencils to date..Great Product.
Read then instructions to understand the small central screw has 2 settings - long point or short point. Depress the lever and extend the top drawer out. Insert pencil and release the lever to secure pencil. Rotate handle clockwise until no more grinding. Sharpening is complete. Fast and no breakage!

I have no idea what the previous reviewer did with this sharpener but as an all day colourist and one who has most sharpeners on the market nothing tops this one.It sharpens Prismacolors which break easily to perfection as well as polychromos, Luminance, Holbeins, Derwents and inexpensive pencils as well.Cannot recommend this highly enough.If you are confused as the directions are poor check YouTube for instructions.
