Need extra USB ports? Might as well use this product. The USB 3.0 is so much faster than the old USB 2.0 ports. Just plug this in to your CPU tower PCI slot and you will not regret it.
Purchased this card to replace a previous card from the same manufacturer that was fried by electrostatic discharge (ESD) this past winter. Hot, dry air and nylon carpets are bad for computer electronics! Card installed quickly and easily and works just fine for low-power USB 3.0 devices such external HDD backups that have their own power supply as well as flash drives. This particular card runs off the power of the PCIe card slot, so it is best not/not to use it for applications that require a full power (900 ma) output from the USB port. If you need that additional power, then purchase the model that includes the additional SATA power connector that hooks up to your PC's power supply.
Works great. Would be nice it it came with a y-splitter, or at least an extension for the Sata power requirement.
Bought this to upgrade a Dell R720 Server so we could to backups to USB cradle for external backups. Loaded the drivers that came with it into Server 2019 and it worked like a charm. Way faster than USB 2.0 that is on the server. Cut backup to less than half the time.
Does everything it's supposed to do; no more, no less. Transfer speeds to an external SSD HD are about 95MB/s read and 71MB/s write.
I have installed 5 of these so far and each one has worked flawlessly. Load the drivers and install the card and it works. It is that simple!
The included instructions give the name of the setup file which needs to be run. And the CD has a lot of different drivers on it, so you have to tell Windows to search the CD for a particular filename. Running a firmware update found on StarTech's website was not necessary (it confirmed the latest drivers were already installed).
