This is an amazing little tool if you have two laptops with one big monitor, keyboard and mouse. My keyboards and mouse works off one USB dongle, so I can even plug in my headset. Worked instantly out of the box with my two Windows laptops so I can flick between work and home laptops with the press of a button.

After searching for so many products on Home Essentials Direct, I came across this product. This KVM switch is clutter free and simple because it leverages the usb-c cable as power supply. Other kvm switches come with extra power supply and a remote. Each usb-c cable from pc1 and pc2 goes into the 2 macbooks/ pcs. 2 usb ports provided for a keyboard and mouse. The hdmi output on the back goes to hdmi monitor. There is a slight lag everytime I switch from one mac to another mac.

I just got and set it up today. I like how the device is compact. It does what it's supposed to do well. Switching between the two computers is pretty clean. And I like the fact that it's powered via the USB-C connection. One negative feedback is that all the connecting ports should be on the same side. Or the HDMI port should be on the side. I currently have the HDMI out facing me because that's the best setup I could get without all the cables pointing out at me.

I use it to switch between a M1 Mac mini and Intel NUC 10. Nice reduction in cables compared to a more traditional KVM switch and the fact that it is bus powered is a nice bonus. I run it at 4K 60Hz. It feels very solidly built. My biggest complaint is that it takes a long time to switch between the two. When I switch to my Mac Mini it takes long enough that my display goes to sleep (around 2 seconds longer than the sleep timeout) and when I switch to the Intel NUC 10 it just barely finishes syncing before the display goes to sleep. It is not really a big deal and my monitor might partly be to blame for this but it is something you might want to be aware of if you are someone who switches between the two computers very frequently. Also a minor nitpick, I wish the USB-C input ports (PC1 and PC2) would have been on the back of the unit next to the HDMI port rather than on the front. In my case my computers are placed behind the monitor so it looks a bit strange with the cables going into the front.
Live saver. I was struggling to have a setup that would allow me to switch between my work and personal computers seamlessly. My work computer is a Dell with high res display and my personal computer is a Mac Mini M1. Both sends high res display output to my ultrawide high res monitor. The setup I have with this switch now: 1. Two computers connected to the switch via USB-C 2. Wireless keyboard and mouse connected to the regular USB ports of the switch 3. A HDMI cable sending the display from the switch to the monitor. The switch between my two computers using the button on the switch is absolutely seamless. I have configured both the computers to not go to sleep and tried the switch with the button and the display switched seamlessly. This switch allowed me a very very clean setup at home. Very happy and highly recommended.
Now I can easily switch between my two notebooks with zero effort. Been limping along using remote access for the second PC. This is much better. Much less cable clutter compared to traditional KVM. It would be nice if all the cables plugged in on the same side though.
I purchased this to replace a messy HDMI based KVM. It works... ok.The big problem I found was that it doesn't always "switch" between two macs (13" macbook pro's, different generations). It forces me to unplug and plug the cable of the currently active one to get the monitor detected. Once switched, it works perfectly. I tried making sure that both laptops are on when switching, but whatever I try the monitor says "no signal" and I have to re-plug the cable to get it going, which defeats the purpose: I could plug cables easily without a KVM.I don't know if it's the power issue, as it doesn't have a dedicated power source, but I've noticed that about 1 in 5 times when both laptops are on--it works, but if the one I'm switching to is in sleep, it will not ... MoreI purchased this to replace a messy HDMI based KVM. Ever. I'm using a relatively recent Dell 4k monitor.
This switch is well constructed, has a small footprint and performs exactly as described. Others have commented on the port locations but not a problem for me. I would have preferred that the switch be powered as one of the computers hooked up to the switch is a laptop and I have to run a separate power cable to it every time I bring it home from work. The other computer is an Intel NUC. Takes a couple of seconds to switch over from one computer to the other, which is as expected.
This switch makes it so a single keyboard, mouse and monitor can be used between two laptops. I keep my laptops standing vertically in a tablet/laptop organizer in the far back corner of my desk. Switching between computers isn’t instant. After pressing the button, it takes a few seconds for the other computer to wake up. It works well though. Both computers have a separate power source (Surface Book and Surface Laptop proprietary power supplies). The switch is used to receive keyboard/mouse signal to the selected laptop, and to send audio/visual signal from the selected laptop to a single ultra-wide monitor.
This USB-C KVM works exactly as expected, with only a short delay between switching.Startech has been quite helpful before and after purchasing, as I was trying to find both a USB-C KVM switch, and information on whether using a regular USB-A switch into the KVM would work. They said it probably would, but it hasnt been tested so no guarantees. It works beautifully!
