Simple...This product is completely simple. Just plug in 2 computers to it with HDMI Video connections, USB Keyboard & Mice connections, Audio and then plug in your HDMI monitor, Keyboard and Mouse and get to work. Simple push button switch and no software drivers to install.

I purchased this switch for a client. It's a simple set up and works fine for a little while. On the first switch I installed, a channel died before I got five minutes away from her office. I got an RMA from Startech and ordered a replacement. The replacement switch lasted a month before it too lost a channel. The manufacturer honored the warranty, and has since refunded all the money. Unfortunately I can't recommend this switch because after two exact same failures I have to assume the engineering design is flawed. HOWEVER, I was very pleased with the responsiveness of StarTech's Customer Support team.

It's a good product. Using a Mac keyboard to connect to a Macbook pro and a Win 7 machine. Switching takes about 3 seconds and works pretty well. Had mouse ports die on part one and a complete power off, unplug, and restart of the device fixed it. Would have given 5 eggs but (a) the custom keyboard buttons on the Mac keyboard no longer register on the mac and (b) sometimes when playing Starcraft 2 on my windows machine with a RAT mouse the system stops registering all the key presses and I have to switch to the other computer and then switch back. It's probably due to the fact that I'm spamming the keyboard faster than the switch can respond. For other uses the device works without an issue

I have tested, and retested computer boot times with the KVM attached and with the KVM removed from the display, keyboard and mouse routing path. The KVM on average adds 15-20 seconds of extra boot time. My Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Core i7 beast with 12GB of DDR 3 @ 1600MHZ does not like this unit. The KVM has caused blue screens and kernel and search errrors. Hard to believe. I am heading back to two mice, two keyboards and using my HDMI monitor with a DVI and HDMI and just switching back and forth with the input type button on the monitor. This KVM inhales like an 8lb Oreck XL vac.
Works fine with Bizlink/Dell active Displayport -> dual-link DVI adapter. No perceptible extra noise on the audio channels, 60hz at 1440p no problems, switching is nice and responsive. Hotkeys work regardless of which USB port the keyboard is plugged into (even via additional USB hub).
Let me start off by saying that I absolutely love this KVM and I adore the quality of the support that Startech provides. I didn't actually contact Startech support on this particular issue since the product details page clearly states that the unit doesn't support USB wireless receivers like those provided by Logitech UNIFYING receiver line of products. That being said I allowed myself to get carried away with reviews on Amazons site and I saw that other people used their Logitech Unifying receivers with no issues. Let me say that with both an older and newer Logitech Unifying receiver I did experience issues with one half of the two devices that I attached to this KVM. Let me say that with both an older and newer Logitech Unifying receiver I did experience issues with one half of the two devices that I attached to this KVM. On my Lenovo Laptop I had no issues and the L.U.R (unifying receiver) worked like a champ but when I toggled the KVM to go back to my Dell Desktop I had an inordinate amount of lag and loss of cursor and keyboard responsiveness to the point of it being unusable. So if you are wanting to use this device as a your KVM my advice is to adhere to the technical warnings and even ignore my review and others and just be prepared to have a bad experience with your USB based wireless receivers. I do not hold Startech to blame on this issue since they were clear up front and I failed to heed the warning. I highly endorse this KVM but please be prepared to use a wired USB mouse and keyboard with this KVM. Cross posting to the Amazon review as well.
Thought I was buying quality by paying more, not the case. Didn't work with wireless Logitech so made a special trip to BestBuy to buy a second wired HP keyboard and it doesn't recognize that either. Very disappointed and returning this product.
I use these on my tech support work bench when fixing multiple PCs and it works great. I can have several PCs lined up and with the press of a button be working on the other PC while tasks are running. I've also used this to switch between my Windows and Mac computers at home when doing development work. The construction is great, feels solid. No drivers necessary. It just works.
This is my third review (one of my first two should be deleted since it was sort of a double post). I had to RMA the first box because there were so many dropped keystrokes it was impossible to use as anything but a door stop. I was worried the second unit would be the same way (bad design) but was pleasantly surprised when this unit worked right out of the box. Newegg.com was fantastic about the RMA. Out of thousands of dollars spent here this is only my second RMA and they were perfect about it. This is why I go to Newegg for everything before I check anywhere else.
4K monitors are a requirement for this KVM. The KVM will not display 1080P via HDMI (though it will with a DVI adapter at the monitor). That may seem obvious after the fact, but should be in the requirements. I found this out after trying multiple cables, different adapters, each output of the video card, basically wasting a lot of time. Finally hooked up KVM output port directly to a UHD TV, which worked. If you're planning to get this KVM purchased and set up, then upgrade monitors, do the reverse. Monitors first ($800 I was hoping to spend next month, not immediately). Update: Reducing the rating to 2 stars. I am now experiencing a random failure to display a monitor issue. Workarounds are things like reset the KVM, switch back and forth to another powered on computer. My view now is this product was brought to market without sufficient testing. In the absence of firmware update (hopefully) that addresses my issue and others I see in reviews I do not recommend purchase of this product. The product has potential but does not work as advertised at this time.
