Connected easily to the DVI output of my new Video Card (nVIDIA Geforce GT 610). I'm running two VGA monitors off of a graphic card that has a common 1-VGA, 1-DVI, and 1-HDMI array of outputs on the back. - I hooked one VGA to the graphic-card VGA Output. - I hooked up another VGA to the "StarTech.com DVIVGAMF8IN 8-Inch DVI to VGA Cable Adapter" which I plugged into the DVI output of the new graphics card. - Presto! Dual extended monitors! Just what I wanted. If that's what you want to do, this cable does the trick. Plus: It hangs, so you can hook and unhook your monitor from it without wiggling your card or damaging your connection. (If you are hedging about a graphics card to do dual monitor, I recommend Search Home Essentials Direct for: MSI NVIDIA GeForce GT 610 ... MoreConnected easily to the DVI output of my new Video Card (nVIDIA Geforce GT 610). The adapters cable eliminates stress at the computer's connection. I did a lot of searching on the internet for this item. Walmart.com was the only place that carried it. Not available in Best Buy- Staples- Radio Shack or in Walmart's Store. Received the item in just a few days!
I thought this was going to be a great adapter for what I needed, but it it not. It has 4 pins around the slotted pin but my motherboard does not. So I guess what I really wanted was a 25 pin DVI male end. I did not know DVI came more than one way. This was just to connect an old VGA monitor to my motherboard that has no VGA connector to do initial BIOS/UEFI set up. I ended up buying a newer inexpensive monitor to use for these purposes. If it is common knowledge that there are different pin configurations for DVI then you all know this, but if not, then double check yours before buying.
This adapter was necessary for me to use the monitor I picked up at a garage sale. The monitor had a DVI output port and cable included, but my PC's graphics card (GPU) only had an HDMI input port. To be sure, I asked what I would need and it was confirmed this would suit my needs. It does indeed do that. While it kinda sticks out a bit and perhaps isn't the most secure thing ever (avoid bumping it), it's probably the best adapter you can find. I'm entirely satisfied with my purchase. Simple, cheap and does its just exactly how I needed it to. I wouldn't leave it exposed in a direction where someone or something moves a lot, as smacking it would probably dent the components or snap something, but I have my PC back against a wall where it belongs and have had no ... MoreThis adapter was necessary for me to use the monitor I picked up at a garage sale. No disconnections, no faulty pins, nothing. Works like a charm.
Updated: September 11, 2020 I had planned on taking the guts out of my small ITX case and drilling a hole for a VGA connector, but wanted to try something before I went down that road. I swapped out the VisionTek Silent 5450 Graphics card and swapped it with an Asus Silent 5450 Graphics card and tried this StarTech adapter again and what do you know, everything works great as I had hoped it would originally. Only thing left to figure out is the difference between two brands of 5450 Graphics cards which look similar and have the same connections but different behavior. Original Review: August 22, 2020 By all accounts this product should have worked but it did not. When I used it the display was much larger than the 1920 x 1080 that it was set to. When I switched back to using the VGA output on the video card everything was as it should be. The only reason I cannot use the VGA output is that I have an ITX case with one half-height slot and the VGA connector would need to be in a 2nd slot connected by a cable. Down the road, I will gut the ITX case and make an opening for the VGA connector that comes off of the video card. For now I have to have a DVI cable to run this computer on a display. I needed VGA so I can switch it with the KVM. My tests were done w/o a KVM, so the KVM was not the issue. I wanted it to work but it would not work for me. Maybe it was defective?
All events related to my order executed flawlessly. The condition of the product and packaging were satisfactory. The quality and performance of the product is perfect. Completely worth the few days wait because the price is less than half of what is available at the free standing electronics retail stores for the exact same thing.
This adapter does exactly what I needed. It converted my new 15 pin monitor plug to 30 pins for my tower
