I am about to order stand-up mid bags for the 3rd time, so my advice is buy more than you think you need. I keep finding more uses for them. I originally bought 4 to store grains and as a doggy bag when out for lunch. The mid size bag can store 500 grams (1 lb) of oat bran and 1 kg (2 lbs) of wheat bran. It worked out well to take home leftovers from the restaurant and was so handy to take cut up veggies to a pot luck. I find the bags very easy to seal by starting in the centre and squeezing out the extra air. To open, I find it easier to start on the edge rather than the centre.

I love using my stand-up Stasher bags for organizing veggies and berries for a camping trip, road trip, or picnic. I first wash and dry (that's important to prevent rotting and mold) produce and berries before placing them in the Stasher bag. With berries, especially, I also put a clean paper towel inside to absorb any excess moisture. Then I squeeze out excess air and make sure the seal is well closed. I pre-cool everything in my fridge and then place them in my pre-cooled cooler just before hitting the road. I've had my produce and berries stay fresh for up to a week while on the road, and everythings already washed and ready to eat or use while cooking. I also use the stand-up Stasher bags to organize and keep clean related items such as coffee making ... MoreI love using my stand-up Stasher bags for organizing veggies and berries for a camping trip, road trip, or picnic. I love stasher bags, but still struggle filling them with liquids and cleaning the very end part of the seals. The standup bag was an improvement for liquids, but still messy for me. Not enough to deter me from using them, though. I did like them being upright in the refrigerator, holding liquids. These bags are wonderful for the environment, see through but thick and sturdy, and seal well. I love that you can write on them and that they can be frozen, boiled and baked. I have an extensive collection now thanks to holiday sales and plan to use them extensively. I use them for food, but obviously they can be used for anything. To those who find them hard to open, start at the outer corner and they open fairly easily.

I'm writing this because people have complained that it is hard to open and close the bags. I've been using these for quite a while (bought elsewhere) and was thrown by that at first too. The trick is to open and close from the far corner of the "zipper." To open it back up you need to pry it a bit with a fingernail. Washing and drying is easy too. Just mostly dry the inside with a wipe of a dish towel and then they air dry. I prop them open with those little bottles that come with the concentrated Grove cleaners and they dry just fine. Stasher bags are a great product and seem to last forever.
I ordered 4 Stasher bags earlier this year (~3-4 months ago) and have been using them to store nuts. One of them already has a hole (~2-inch) on the non-blurred side, which seems to be thinner than the blurred side. I have been storing them in a kitchen cabinet, so I'm not sure what could have caused the tear. This is particularly annoying as the bags are pricey and I thought they'd last me years. The main reason I ordered them was to reduce my waste but I ended up created more trash with this bag. Also, I wouldn't use them for anything oily or of a liquid form as I don't think it will wash easily. They are okay for dry stuff. On the bright side, they close well and I like that they stay up. The color options are nice to.I wouldn't buy Stasher bags again though ... MoreI ordered 4 Stasher bags earlier this year (~3-4 months ago) and have been using them to store nuts. Love, love, love my Stashers. The variety and size are great for fruits, veggies, cereals, and soups. I am using them in the freezer, fridge, and pantry. I truly appreciate the thought put into the design and the expanded bottom AND the ability of the Stand-Up style to stand open for pouring items into it. Woo-hoo,makes my kitchen duties run smoothly and storage a whiz! I also find that my fruits and veggies stay fresh longer when stored in my Stashers than in regular plastic bags.
Wow! I kept seeing these around and was resisting buying them, because I’m suspicious of “green” capitalism and anything telling me to buy something to be eco friendly (plus, I didn’t want to pay that much for something I wasn’t 100% sure I would use). Well now I wish I hadn’t waited so long! I bought five bags, each a different size, to figure out if they’d be useful and how. All my bags are currently being used and every day I find myself wishing I had more! So far I’ve used them in the freezer to store half-used frozen foods, in the fridge to hold leftovers and snacks, in the cupboard as storage, and to fill up at the bulk section at my co-op. With them, I’ve even started moving away from bringing prepackaged frozen meals to work (so much packaging waste!), which ... MoreWow! So far I’ve used them in the freezer to store half-used frozen foods, in the fridge to hold leftovers and snacks, in the cupboard as storage, and to fill up at the bulk section at my co-op. With them, I’ve even started moving away from bringing prepackaged frozen meals to work (so much packaging waste!), which is a huge deal to me as I have ADHD and one thing I struggle with is convenient meals that don’t aggravate my executive dysfunction while at work. I’m looking forward to growing my collection and finding even more use cases. Right up there with my reusable water bottle and coffee cup in terms of essential household items for me now. This particular size is currently in my freezer, but was also used for bulk storage and I can see myself bringing it to work with leftovers.
Design is key when storing in a refrigerator that is routinely full. Unlike mismatched bowls and lidless containers, these side-by-side Stasher Stand-up bags allow for double the amount of food in a more orderly fashion. Storage when not in use is also a plus. We try to avoid plastic, which means we have a lot of glass jars. They take up huge amounts of cabinet space when not in use. What they are made out of is also safe. My wife is blind. Glass shatters with an accidental sweep of her hand. She can't feel what's inside if stored in glass. For her, jar lids are often difficult to match up or even find. Stasher stand-ups solve a lot of problems, both with space, storage, and its impact on the environment. We are all winners here.
I was able to remove all my freeze dried meal packaging to simple ziplocks to reduce weight and ,more importantly, fit everything into the bearbox. Worked great. Needs cleaning after use. Holds all the 2 serving meals that I had. The stand works great so you can set it down without worrying about spills. The seal at the top works easily and delivers a firm seal. I took this with me on a three night trip to the Lost Coast and was glad I did. It allowed me to throw a couple of apples into my bearbox that I wouldn't have otherwise been able to take.
two stashed bags here, pick up smell of dishwasher detergent. also: I purchased a new stashed at a store in oregon that also markets liquid personal care and household cleaning products. so much fragrance in the store that my new stashed smelled of scents even after a soak in water with baking soda. merchant agreed to refund my money. so now the question? how much water does it use to wash it all the time? which is what I do with zip lock bags anyhow....guess these are longer lasting.
