Bought brand new MS271 from Rocky's and it broke after 1 month of use. I used Makita chainsaw before and had no problems, so I know how to use a chainsaw. Brought the saw back to Rocky's because I had bought the most expensive warranty with it. Rocky's technicians tore the saw apart and said they can't repair it nor replace it because they suspect it could have been my fault that it broke, and my best option is to buy a new chainsaw.

I will not be buying a Stihl product again. After bringing this proudct home and starting it up for the first time and letting it idle, it proceeded to burn itself up. I never cut a single piece of wood with it. I took it to the Stihl dealer to file a warranty claim and was denied due to "operating with the chain brake on". Basically, the chain brake is useless and if you try to use it, the saw will destroy itself. Go buy a Husqvarna. I did and love it!

Unlike the person who ran it with the chain brake on and ruined their saw, I have had zero issues with my stihl saw. Either of them I have a ms170 and the 271. Tough saws that work well. If I manage to wear it out I will buy another no questions asked.

It was just what I was looking for. The price was fair and the product was as described. The same product new was ridiculously over priced. Im satisfied and happy with the outcome.
Pretty much the total package. Fells, bucks, and clears brush with ease. I've even dabbled with some chainsaw carving (animals as well as some chairs). It's a bit big for really intricate work, but that's about as big of a fault as I've found so far.
Great saw and glad to have it in my arsenal. Yet, the Husqvarna 455 rancher I own outrun the MS271. BUT... the Husky is less reliable. I have fiddle with the Husky far more than the Stihl. If I had to have ONE... I'd take the Stihl for it's reliability.
No Im not a lumberjack. However I would highly recommend not only this saw but the fine person who sold it to me. I have been chopping trees like a mad man since it arrived. Oak, Black Walnut, China Berry, or Yaupon this saw just doesnt care. It eats them alive. Thanks so much!
I have owed and operated 2 of these. The first lasted almost 2 years before breaking (engine related) and not being worth it to repair. The second lasted almost 8 months before the plastic handle broke, and the piston getting damaged (from what, I do not know). Both of these problems are not covered by the 1 year warranty and once again, is to costly to repair. Worked great when it did work! But having to buy a new chainsaw every year from moderate use is not getting my money's worth.
Ive owned this saw for over 3 years now and have pretty well over exceeded its use reccomendation. Ive felled several trees, bucked a ton of wood, and limbed like crazy with it. The only thing id like to see changed is it doesnt have an adjustable oiler, and for cutting bigger wood, it could use more oil. Its been a really good saw for me.
After dropping two trees and cutting them up I give this saw a complete thumbs up. The cutting power is great, it handles and starts great. The quality is there, I would recommend this saw to the serious logger, or fire wood cutter. I rate it a ten out of ten!
