I just bought this high chair and tray. I'm in love with the whole chair EXCEPT for the tray. The tray has a rough surface which doesn't allow for plates/mats to remain suctioned. It's very disappointing that such a well designed chair has such a major and yet easily avoidable flaw. Quite frankly, had I known about it in advance I may have considered a different high chair. STOKKE, please rethink this particular feature, and when you do, send me a new (smooth) tray.

Really frustrating tray, not a single brand of suction bowls or plates stick and I've tried many. Very difficult to clean especially on the sides, the creases have mold in them and the surface is warped and has bumps on it. Would not recommend and it's such a shame because the rest of the chair and it's design are beautiful.

Second time buying as the first one we washed too often in the sink & rusted out one of the springs (over a 2 year period - just out of warranty & they specifically say not to wash in this way so doubt it would have been a Valid return) - this is a newer version though. The top of the tray has a light texture that holds plates, cups & toys a little better. The older one was smooth. Will not be washing in the sink this time! Found using Clorox wipes works just as well. Great piece. The whole system is awesome.

There is much I love about the Stokke Steps high chair, but this tray is textured, meaning it does not work with bowls or plates that use suction. I purchased the EZPZ suction placemat for this specific model and my 9 month old son can easily peel it off from the tray. I cleaned tray + placemat, and even tried it when slightly damp to see if this would help - still minimal suction and the seal is easily broken by baby. Again, this is because the tray is textured so it does not create a firm seal with *ANY* suction ware, including the EZ PZ mat made *specifically* for this exact tray. Despite loving the high chair itself, the fact that I can't use any suctionware and therefore have to hold my son's bowl lest all his meals end up on the floor, means I really wish I ... MoreThere is much I love about the Stokke Steps high chair, but this tray is textured, meaning it does not work with bowls or plates that use suction. Actually shocked that the stokke team didn’t see the design flaws in this. I have the stokke steps high chair so obviously needed to get the tray to go with it. The grey or white colored trays will stain orange whenever any orange food (carrots especially) touches it. Had to soak it with dish soap and white vinegar to try to get my son’s dinner stains out of it which is still very mildly there. Also very disappointed that none of my very expensive suction bowls and placemats do not stick to the surface!!! Stokke needs to make a different tray that fits the steps high chair. This is such a disappointment. Oh and it does not fit in the dishwasher so have fun washing it by hand after every meal.
Now that the baby is ready to eat solid food, this tray was a separate purchase that made sense. It's great! You can push this right up against the table so things are still out of reach and any mess on the tray can be cleaned easily. It's very durable and comes off and reattaches in a second. Definitely something you should get if you already have a Stokke Steps.
Would not have bought if I knew our plates wouldn't suction to the textured surface. Food is also stuck in all cracks and can't get out. I did not realize you can't hand wash it, now the entire core is waterlogged. Regret buying.
The tray design for the Stokke Steps high chair is not practical, as it is impossible to safely clean. There are two small holes in the bottom that allows for water to enter the inside of the tray. There is no feature that allows the tray to open to dry, in order to prevent mold. I reached out to Stokke’s customer service, and appreciated their honest acknowledgement that this is a design flaw that they are aware of and are currently working to address. They advised me to only “spot clean” the surface of the tray. Not the most realistic advice when feeding an infant or after a meal with a toddler. By comparison, the Stokke Tripp Trapp tray does not have a covered underside and can be washed right in the dishwasher. I purchase to use with he stokke stepp chair. It really attaches with such easiness. It's just the right size for baby to bang her toys on it...she's only 5mo and it's very easy to clean. It also it's easy to sore, we store it under our kitchen island table while the stepp chair it's pushed against out dining table. Baby really likes it. It also seems that because it's void of nooks and crannies it will be great to wipe clean when it gets all messy with baby food. Very happy with all my 3 purchases, this tray, the seat and the stepp chair. I know it's a lot of money -- but they're great quality items and they will last and make our life easier and baby will enjoy and will grow with. She already sat with us at the dining table and that was so nice to have!
Terribly designed tray. It allows water and possible food to get in when washing due to hollow tray design with holes. It’s impossible to dry out the tray so it’s very susceptible to mold growth. Both buy buy baby and stokke are aware of the issue — Stokke admitted to me several customers have complained about mold yet the continue to sell this dangerous tray. Scary.
