This is a superb toaster, which I'm reviewing after around a month of use.It easily takes various thicknesses of bread and toasts pretty evenly - no automatic toaster I've come across toasts perfectly evenly so I am happy. The toast pops up high so it's easy to retrieve the toast - our toast tongs are now, ahem, toast! The build quality is good and of course it looks lovely. The blue light while it's operating is a good idea. The slot controls work well and feel solid, and we love the checking function. This toaster is much quicker to toast than our last toaster and seems to draw less electricity. We can actually operate the kettle at the same time as toasting bread while they are both plugged into the same power strip! Now for the downsides.... The matte chrome surface on the top looks great but marks incredibly easily. Fingermarks appear every time it's used, although these wipe off well enough. However, I cannot remove the marks around the slots that mysteriously appeared, and don't want to try anything stronger than the manual recommends in case it makes the marks worse. Small or light slices of bread or bagel or similar pop up pretty high so may go further than you expect. We got this toaster largely because we thought the magnetically attached single crumb tray would be better than individual crumb trays under slots, which often let larger crumbs get stuck. So from this point of view, the single crumb tray works well because it's much easier to get rid of toast crumbs - we brush the crumbs off the tray after each toaster use. I was surprised, however, that the crumbs tend to gather along the plastic edging of the tray so you do need to wipe these crumbs off with a damp cloth from time to time. These are not big complaints, just minor annoyances.Overall, we're very pleased with the toaster and are hoping it will last a long time because it is much more expensive than our last one. Our last one, by Russell Hobbs, was not cheap but lasted only about three years of almost daily use.

It looks stylish, bought black for something different. The crumb tray was the main reason I bought this, also had a great review from choice. Did not realise it lights up when on. Very quick even browning. Haven’t quite worked out the defrost button yet. I do not like the fact the entire top heats up when it’s in use. It is a sheet of metal and it gets very hot. Would not keep it if I had young kids.

The delivery was quick. The product was well packed in a fantastic gift type box. The toaster is exactly what you see on line. Although we used the defrost on two slices of bread & the toast came out unevenly cooked with one side barely cooked at all. Normal cooked toast comes out fine. The toaster itself is a great design and the underneath tray is a great addition for easy cleaning. The light at the bottom is a touch of class. The top metal opening can get very hot so be careful with your hands. For the high price tag I expect the defrost to work better providing a better toasted bread, so will not use that function in futureSo disappointing on that one level.

Love the design but, the colour is not as in picture. Lighter with a grey tinge.Having had the cafe series 4 slice toaster for 10-15 years I was looking forward to a robust appliance. I tried to get it repaired, no one would do it. This collection is sadly not as robust . By this, I mean the controls feel flimsy. So far have used it twice and works okay. Wish I could have repaired my cafe series one though. Light up base is novel.
I read a lot of different toaster reviews before deciding to try the Kyoto City 4-Slice. We were upgrading because the whole family were unhappy with uneven toasting of our old toaster, so wanted to make sure to find a good one. Every toaster (including this one) had some bad reviews sprinkled in with the good ones, so that made it hard to pick one that stood out.I ended up picking this one because it had the feature where the whole toaster stands on the crumb catcher, which is really easy to remove and clean out. It means a huge reduction in crumbs on the kitchen bench, and everyone is happy with how even it toasts too.
This toaster is a huge improvement over a competitor's model that proved just the opposite - and is now recycled despite being hardly out of warranty. Sunbeam's Kyoto Collection toasters are very stylish IMO and their innovative crumb tray design is a feature all manufacturers could emulate. Apart from the design, the toaster performs exactly as required and there's absolutely no issues with the dimensions of bread slices I normally toast. It helps that it was also bought on sale so 5 stars from me.
I must admit I am disappointed with this toaster. It definitely does not cook my toast evenly, as I hoped it would. However, I have yet to find a toaster that does a great job of turning bread into toast. How hard can it be to manufacture a toaster that actually toasts perfectly? In this day and age?I find the settings are hard to read, and the adjustment between levels is too narrow. Also, the right hand slots need to be set at a lower level than the left.It is an attractive appliance, though. And I do like the feature where I can check the toast as it cooks, without disruption to the cycle. The insipid white light underneath when the toaster is in action is a tad underwhelming. Would have loved that fabulous electric blue some appliances have when switched on. ... MoreI must admit I am disappointed with this toaster. Prepare for lift off. Features a magnetic breadcrumb tray that lights up when toasting. Golden brown crumpets, perfectly crunchy sourdough and tan coloured toast. Only downside is you need to ensure the toast tray is under the toaster for it to work - this can be annoying if you like to hide your appliances in cupboards. You need both hands to ensure tray is connected. Other than that, a solid investment.
I bought the Sunbeam Kyoto and it has exceeded my expectations. It’s hard to believe that there’s so many other products that don’t meet the mark when it comes to making toast. Not the Sunbeam Kyoto. This toaster is the absolute best toaster I have ever had. It’s reasonably priced and looks amazing in my kitchen. Not to mention that it cooks toast and crumpets perfectly and evenly, it has a really big and easy to clean crumb catcher on the bottom, which is a magnetic base. Believe the reviews, Do yourself a favour and choose the Kyoto. I also like the the range has other appliances, such as Kettles that match in colour. This really compliments my kitchen and blends in nicely. Read the reviews and you won’t be disappointed. Highly recommended.
We returned a more expensive Breville toaster that did not toast evenly if at all and replaced with this Sunbeam model. My expectations were low, however we have been surprisingly happy with this toaster. The crumb tray is easy to empty (although crumbs still get stuck in the actual toaster) and low and behold it actually toasts the bread quite evenly. My only negative is the top of the toaster gets quite hot. Wouldn't recommend for a home with young children.
