Super Sculpey Clay 8 Lbs-Beige
Super Sculpey Polymer Clay Super Sculpey is a unique polymer clay, loved by artists, doll makers, and animation studios around the world. With a ceramic-like feel, this polymer clay is available in a semi-translucent beige color, that can capture the glow of real skin. It can also be mixed with Sculpey Premo! or Sculpey III polymer clays to change the color. As with all Sculpey clays, it is easy to condition right out of the package and stays soft until baked. Super Sculpey features fine tooling and detailing characteristics and does not “fill in” after tooling. Because of these characteristics, Super Sculpey is preferred by artists for creating both prototypes and molds for reproductions. Additionally, artists use Super Sculpey to create finely detailed finished sculptures. After curing in the oven, Super Sculpey can be sanded, drilled, carved, and painted with water-based acrylic paints. With a ceramic-like feel, Super Sculpey is available in semi-translucent beige, that once baked, captures the glow of real skin.

I use this as a hard structure for making stop motion puppets. Harder and thicker than Sculpey III, it takes a while to get soft but is great for carving details and making heavier objects. Bakes just as easily and fast and is overall a great product.

I use this clay for professional, realistic sculptures and I have not been disappointed. The clay from Blick is always soft and easy to use. Holds detail nicely and has a moderate resistance to breaking.

This is my favorite polymer clay! I’m very new to this hobby/art form, so I’ve been trying every polymer clay available and THIS is my favorite! (This and SS Living Doll are now my go-to clays.) It conditions well, and is not too gooey when warm or doing a lot of hand sculpting. Since I’m a figurative artist, I love what this clay allows me to create!

I used original sculpey for quite some time doing little figurines of characters, but over time they would just fall apart, even with minimal handling. Discouraged, I stopped working with clay altogether for a while. Then I found Super Sculpey. This stuff is really, really hard to break once it's baked. I used it to make a set of discs for a prop on a costume, and as an experiment, baked one disc and tried to break it. I expected it to come crumbling apart, but it took a TON of force, almost more than I could manage with just my hands, to snap the piece in half.My only complaints are that--first of all--it's pretty hard to mold on it's own. I expected it to come crumbling apart, but it took a TON of force, almost more than I could manage with just my hands, to snap the piece in half.My only complaints are that--first of all--it's pretty hard to mold on it's own. The clay stays pretty hard and unmaleable even after kneading it for a solid five minutes. I mixed it with mold maker to soften it up with pretty good results (and I figure mold maker would make it even more break-resistant since it has a more rubber like quality once baked)--on that note, Sculpey sells a softener which is probably a cheaper alternative to do the same thing, I just happened to have Mold Maker on hand so that's what I tried. The other complaint is that it smokes a TON when I bake it. It's been a couple of years since I've worked with polymer clays, but I don't remember original sculpey smoking this much. I've tried lowering the temperature 25 degrees and extending bake time a little, which reduces the black 'burnt' look my pieces get (not a huge deal, as I paint them anyway), but they still smoke and stink up my apartment pretty bad, which basically means I can't cure pieces without opening up a bunch of windows and setting up fans to draw the smoke out. This could be normal--I don't have the experience with polymer clays to say otherwise--but it does effect how often I feel up to making figurines.
Looking for stuff to do while "remaining in place", my daughter and I decided to make jewelry. We had lots of ribbons, feathers, crystals, etc. but needed a base. Super Sculpey is great! We can shove it into a push mold, stomp it with small cookie cutters or just mush it about. A quick bake in the oven and we can glue on decorations to our hearts' content. Add a simple pin back and we've got wearable art! Love it!
I make custom bobbleheads with Super Sculpey - so I always try to buy the 8lb. bulk pack. it has been on backorder for a long time. I was very happy it was back in stock. In the past, the clay was easy to pry apart in long layers from the clay brick - then I would run it through the pasta machine to kneed it. But the new batch comes in solid bricks which has me changing the way I cut and kneed the clay. Which is okay - but I prefer the old way better.
I bought this clay for my son, he got into sculpting and hasn't looked back. He absolutely loves this clay, it is very easy to work with. If he has a problem with how something looks or feels he just pulls it off and just starts over. This clay is very forgiving. We will be buying more from you. Thank you very much for such a great product. If my friends wanted a good place to buy clay I would send them your way.
I have used some different types of polymer clay but, this has always been my favorite. I love the way it holds detail and the clay has a great consistency it's not too hard and it's not too soft. It's also the first polymer clay that I used when I got into sculpting. I got sick of air dry clay because it always cracked and with this clay it doesn't crack.
Have my own "special" mix of clay & Super Sculpey is a large part of it. Blick's has the best price by far on the 8 pound packages. Take whatever is needed, then re-wrap carefully & refrigerate; stays pliable for months. Detailed molds release with no problem & individual sculpting pieces develop easily.Dislike how much it loves cat hair but that's no one's fault.
Foreword : I am an rank amateur model maker!I've been making models for around the last 3 months and have exclusively used super sculpey for this time and have been thoroughly impressed. It is very versatile and strong enough when baked I don't worry too much about being a little rough with my projects. Baking is simple and so far I have yet to burn anything. After the usual learning curve I began experimenting with different thicknesses and have had a lot of fun working with this clay. £160 later and I'm still loving it and the figures are getting much better. Great product for all ages and skill levels.
