We have a few cats on different prescription diets, as well as two cats who would happily devour everyone else's food. These feeder help ensure that each cat can only get their own food, both in type and amount. It isn't perfect, as it's possible for another cat to stick their head in once the cat it is cued to it opens the feeder, but it is better than any other option we have found. It is easy to use, and all of our cats have learned how they work without any difficulty.

Ordered this product because we have 2 male cats, 1 female cat and one dog. The male cats and the dog are always eating the female cat's food. She is my spoiled little girl. One male cat is on a special diet and the other eats way too much. The dog should be eating his own food. They are all sweet but it was a big challenge trying to manage all the feeding. I saw an add for the Sureflap Surefeed Microchip Feeder at my vet's office. Went online, read the reviews and thought I would try it out. I am 100% satisfied! It was simple to set up, my female cat learned how to use it in literally one hour and I did not even have to use the training mode! One of the other cats saw the food through the door but could not get the door to open. I highly recommend this product to ... MoreOrdered this product because we have 2 male cats, 1 female cat and one dog. The male cats and the dog are always eating the female cat's food. The only negative is that it did not come with an owners manual but I was able to download one online. No big deal. If you decide to purchase one be sure to have 4 C batteries on hand so you don't have to run out and purchase them like I did.

At the time I bought this, it was the only available product that provides chip-based controlled access to cat food, and that's what I needed. It works perfectly. We have 2 cats, each of which are on different special diets. We bought 2 of these, set each one to read only one cat's chip, and it solved the problem of them getting into each other's food. However the included divided bowl (not microwave or dishwasher safe) is far less convenient that the two half-bowls that are available as a separate purchase. For our typical use, we use the divided bowls, with wet food on one side and dry food on the other. Which means having to empty the remaining dry food, washing the remaining wet food from the bowl, then replacing the dry food every feeding.

It works great insofar as only opening for the assigned cat. Unfortunately, if another cat nudges his way in, it remains open, even if the assigned cat leaves. Apparently once it's open, it simply detects the motion/presence of a cat instead of continuing to register the specific presence of the correct microchip. Thus, the overweight cat I was trying to prevent from eating still manages to gobble up all of the underweight cat's food. And I wasted a significant amount of money.
I have had my original 4 bowls 4 feeders for 3 years, and they are still in perfect condition . I bought another feeder and got the spare bowls because I liked the dividers and the pretty colours, I didn’t need them 😆 . I always wash by hand as it clearly states on both the packaging and bowl that they are not dishwasher safe. I read another review where the person said the rubber deteriorates after a couple of months. I have never had this problem and I now have 5 feeders and seven bowls and use and wash them daily. I can’t tell which are the new grey bowls and which are the old, that how well they have lasted.
This is a response to the comments that a 'moocher' cat can push in and continue to munch after the designated cat has finished. I have an overweight cat who would shove her head in and share while my underweight cat ate and was too meek to tell her housemate to bug off). I cut a couple of strips of clear plastic and taped vertically to the sides of the feeder, making the opening large enough for one cat, but not big enough for two. That seems to work. You could use anything, but I cut up a sheet protector I had, thinking that clear plastic would block the cat's vision less.
I have 2 cats and a German Shepherd. One of my cats needs to be on prescription food. Since its nearly impossible to feed the cats separate foods and ensure they eat only theirs, this product is a lifesaver ( and money saver). I can now put my other cat back on regular food and ensure that they each get the intended food and dont have to worry about my greedy dog stealing it either. Its nice because I can leave their bowls full! Also, my one cat is scared of absolutely everything and she adjusted almost immediately to the bowl.
I've had two of these for over a year to help one of my two cats loose weight. That way, each cat eats exactly what they're given so I don't have to worry about them eating too much (or too little in case the one who doesn't need to loose weight steals food). Amazingly, it has worked wonderfully and predictably over that entire time... with the same set of batteries. It's tough and doesn't use that much batteries, allowing you the freedom to move it around as much as you need. I'd highly recommend this if you've: - Got dogs and need to separate the food - Have a cat or two that needs to loose weight (requiring you to separate their food)
Expensive but well worth the money. It works very well for our one free feed kitty. The other cat we have really wants the food but has not found a way to break into it.
Works almost as advertized, but here's a catch: there's a separate detector for the chip's proximity and a separate detector for "something in the feeder frame". For my two cats it works this way: the authorized cat eats her food, then sits right next to the feeder and starts washing. This is when the unauthorized cat comes in, puts her head into the frame and the feeder goes "oh, auth chip is nearby and someone tries to eat - OPEN THE GATE!" So I had to add some stuff around the feeder to avoid this situation. Still, it made my entire life onw that cat doesn't have to wake me day and night asking for the next portion of food.
