In the sales data, there was no information on the scales on the baseplate, so I assumed the scales usual for orienteering: 1:10, 000, 1:15 000. There was no 1:15 000 scale, but two at 1:10 000.This doesn't affect my use of the compass (I use 1:10 000 maps) but could affect other users (younger competitors with keener eyesight who do use 1: 15 000.)I assume SUUNTO are responsible for this omission

Really well made, its worth trying to save up and buy proper equipment that will last.
I bought this A-30 compass mainly for night skywatching. As it has luminous dial and needle. As I go away frequently, it would be very useful for walks into the scrub. I like that it is balanced for the Southern Hemisphere unlike the cheap stuff. Haven't worked with topo maps for a long time. Yet, it's more than up to the job, if this is required. Its a high quality compass and very happy with it.
I bought a few of these compasses to be used to teach people navigation skills. They have been a great assesset to the course as its well put together that fits neatly in your hand with all the features you need especially the large magnifying lens.
Met my expectations. I hadn't bought my own compass before though so if you're in the same boat, consider getting one with adjustable magnetic declination. Reduces the math you need to do while navigating, and I would have if I'd thought of it before buying this one. If you just want a compass this one is nice and perfectly functional.
A great baseplate compass at an excellent price. Accurate, clearly marked & the lume works well when charged. It has a lovely big lens which I probably use more than the compass! This compass is made in Finland. I bought two small Silva Field compasses for my godsons. I changed my mind & gave them Suunto A-30 L-CMs when I noticed the phrase "designed in Sweden" on the Silva's packaging. I used the lens on the Suunto to find & read the ultra fine print that told me that the Silva Field compass is not made in Sweden! At this price point the Suunto is by far the better option!
This is a great baseplate compass. Little features like luminescent bezel and magnifier make the look and feel significantly better than the A-10.Note, however, the image provided may or may not match the actual product received. I ordered on sportchek.ca online and got the metric scale version. At the time of this writing, the picture on this product page is showing an imperial scale.
Bought for my son. I have one - excellent ! Solid construction & clear markings. The last 3 compasses I have had, all the well known other option, have fallen apart or lost their damping fluid in a short number of years. However Outdoor GB’s service was misleading & glacially slow. Was given a due date, then just before it was advised that the compasses aren’t actually stocked, they’re ordered from Finland when there are a few orders. Why don’t the shop have them mailed straight to the customer - or explain the stick situation on their website, it’s misleading..... Took well over a month. Would rather have paid a bit more for it for direct service. Response emails from Outdoor GB were standard ‘library’ emails when I asked for progress report.
