Suunto Core All Black Watch

I'm not sure when this watch first came out. Some mentioned a decade ago.If we're still in 2012, this would be a great watch but still with its shortcomings. But how many options do you really have back then, right?Now in 2022 with all the options that you can get for an ABC watch, I'd try to be as realistic as possible and won't complain too much.As the watch on its own, I like it. I don't find myself struggling to read the display in daylight as the display contrast can be adjusted (range 1 - 15). I kept mine at 13, but when you press for the backlight, you'd still be confused by other icons appearing on the screen.The backlight is okay for something from 2012-ish. But like the moniker/name suggests, it's stealth so why should the backlight glow so much, right?As with the ABC features;Altimeter : I can't comment on this because I don't use it at all. But you do have to remember that the data is based on the sensor intended for barometric readings, so it determines your altitude based on air pressure readings around you.Barometer: I compare it with two other watches with ABC functions - names withheld or this review won't get published :( . The readings are consistent, with very negligible value differences. But the barometric graph representation on this one in my opinion is so much better to read compared to the two aforementioned. Having storm alarm is super handy if you need one!Compass: Again I compared with the other two, they all worked great and I personally think it's a reliable compass but having an actual compass is better. This compass would be useful as a backup. The only thing with this one is after a while when you are in a different location, you do need to calibrate the compass to get better readings, and doing calibration on this one is so easy! Just go into compass mode and turn the watch 360 degrees while keeping it level.Someone complained this not having a 24 hour option, it does have the option for it.No options for hourly chime. As far as tones goes, they're only settable for button guides and alarm. Which makes it useful for stealth.The button lock feature is a useful feature that even expensive ~ ahem ~ digital shock resistant watches don't have.The stopwatch doesn't have split time feature so you should look for that somewhere else.The countdown timer is up to 99 minutes and 59 seconds.The sunrise and sunset times are only applicable to major cities.So for something like this in 2012, it was a great watch. For current times, you're just limiting yourself purely for style if you still want this and hoping it to match on par with something else in the market nowadays.Don't get me wrong though, it's still a good reliable ABC watch and I use it everyday and there are times I keep it as a backup to know the barometric readings & temperature around me while rocking my other ~ahem~ shock resistant watches.P/S: I first came to know about this watch way before seeing the hero (name withheld) using it in The Eq********* but it was out of reach back then. Now that I'm hoarding for watches and saw the movie again, I just had to get it and with its shortcomings, I take it as it is and I still really love this Suunto Core All Black.

Given the price point, one of the best watch for daily use + outdoor / mountains.... if you do not desire those complicated computers with GPS, heart rate and xxx functions you will never need. I prefer something simple, durable, but elegand... and this watch serves this purpose. I wear them with suit in the office but also in the mountains. Some people complained about display (not easy to read), but I do not have this issue at all.If you want sportwatch tracking heart rate, routes, ect. go for Garmin (due to better app), but if you need something simple, this is the way to go.

Watch is great, stylish and comfortable. Though I bought for the outdoors, I find myself often wearing on a day-to-day basis . The altimeter is reliable (when calibrated) barometer functions well, and little add-ins like sunrise/sunset time a nice bonus. I'm not particularly kind to gear, and have been wearing this frequently- it still looks like it's fresh out of the box.My big gripe is the compass, which I've tried calibrating under a number of different scenarios and has never once read reliably or even remotely close to the appropriate direction. As an ABC watch: A+ grade for A&B functions, but a solid F for C.
