The Synology Surveillance Station software is very high standard - good features and very stable (I have not encountered any bugs). The AI is reasonably good at identifying whether activity is a vehicle or pedestrians, and also at reading number plates that are coming or going fairly in line with the camera. We have been using it in a test site with two cameras for about 4 months.Because the hardware is designed for use with AI (and you pay for this), you would not buy this unit if you just want a simple NAS drive.PB Tech's price was better than other sellers when I bought it - and still was so when I checked it recently.

I purchased this device for a family member in hopes of it being a little simpler to use and setup than the FREE Frigate solution that I'm currently utilizing for my homes NVR and this thing is laughable in comparison.. It constantly alerts about seeing vehicles when they're parked (even with the option checked to ignore stationary vehicles) and you can literally only have two of the same type of detection tasks setup and NO MORE. Synology should be ashamed for putting a useless piece of garbage out like this. I've recommended and purchased so many Synology units in my lifetime but this is the straw that broke the camels back.. Never again. Don't waste your money, folks!

I thought this would be a perfect addition - having good face recognition with surveillance station(they claim 97% accurate if I remember right) I picked optimal pictures of my family, read through the documentation, and updated my 1080p camera to a 2K camera. It still only recognized them about 30% of the time. I even painstakingly went through the unknown images and corrected them for about 200 instances of Unknown face. Today to add insult to injury - it recognized the wheels on our van as it backed out of the garage as an Unclear face. If it had done it once... that would have been one thing, but it recognized each wheel it could see as an unclear face... and the same thing again later when the van returned home! Today I have 4 unclear faces that are the wheels ... Today I have 4 unclear faces that are the wheels of my van! My dahua cameras can already recognize a Human vs a car and it only adds about 0.5 watts per camera to do it. In my testing having the face recognition active bumps the processor usage from 2% to 26%, and draws about 10 watts more power. Another negative is this only has one ethernet port! the DS720+ that this is nearly identical to but without the Deep learning and camera licenses has two!
