Expensive? Yes. But worth it? Yes. I have owned my Tilley for 5 years and abused it through many countries --- EBC in Nepal, unforgiving heat and rafting in India, lounging on the beach in Bali, Camino in Spain.... it just became like a wallet where I could not leave home without it. It is very durable, keeps my head cool, and puts up with a ton of sweat that I give it. It also looks great with flaps up or down and you just feel cooler wearing it, like you're Indiana Jones' stepson. After many countries and being tested, it still looks great and is easy to clean with a wet washcloth and mild soap. I know this hat will last many years, but I will with full confidence buy it again when a replacement is needed. Treat yourself or the person you love. Get quality gear ... MoreExpensive? Yes. BTW - there is also a cool hidden compartment on the inside crown.

Great hat. Fits well, very comfortable, and appreciate the broken in feel of it compared to regular duck hat. Would have preferred a broader range of colors available to try as I think ultimately I’d prefer a different color (would even liked to have just had black available for comparison) but olive is pretty safe - so I’m okay with it. Quality is excellent, I don’t expect any issues with it even though no longer made in Canada. It is still guaranteed for life which is really what matters. I would buy again - maybe I will - but in a different color next time!

This is a nice, durable, comfortable hat for hiking or exploring. It looks good and has a couple of interesting features like a secret pocket. (I can't reveal where it is. It's a secret.) It's water-resistant and crushable. I have a friend who's had his for over 20 years and inspired me to buy mine. Only two things about it make me hesitate to give it five stars. #1: The fit. Too small. If you carefully measure your head--and I did, a couple of times--then the size seven is supposed to fit a 22" head. I'm slightly under 22", so I figured it would be perfect, and in the New Mexico winds it's probably not a bad idea to have it be a bit tight, but I can't imagine having my head squeezed this much for an eight-hour desert adventure. So if, like me, you find a tight hat ... MoreThis is a nice, durable, comfortable hat for hiking or exploring. It looks good and has a couple of interesting features like a secret pocket. So if, like me, you find a tight hat annoying, get the next size up from the one the sizing chart recommends. #2: The khaki color looks darker than on the website. I was expecting more of an off-white, and this is most definitely a darker khaki. Just a personal preference, but be forewarned. #3: One more minor thing is the straps. They're weird. I mean, how are they supposed to work? There's a loop and two shoestrings that dangle in front, I think, so you've got some kind of dangly stuff hanging down the sides of your head everywhere you go. I guess if you wear the loop in back it helps hold the hat on, and that's fine, but then the rest of the shoestring is too short to tie under your chin. I guess I'll keep it, but It's gonna have to be modified and swapped out for something bigger.

I think the biggest question when it comes to Tilley is how to nail down the sizing. My head when snuggly measured is 58.5cm, a little looser it is just over 59cm which puts me at 7 3/8. I ended up ordering a 7 1/2 and a 7 5/8. For me my true Tilley size seems to lie somewhere between those two sizes. If I wanted a slightly looser fit go bigger, slightly snugger go for the 7 1/2. Ultimately I decided on the 7 1/2. The hats say they are preshrunk, but I'm still a little nervous it may shrink down slightly after washing it. It it does shrink I will update my review. I recommend looking at their chart on their website and following the instructions including adding 1-2cm to your measurement based on your fit preference. The hat itself is beautiful, well made and (for ... MoreI think the biggest question when it comes to Tilley is how to nail down the sizing. While im saddened they moved some production to China I am still happy to support their products made domestically.
This is a comfortable hat, really comfortable.i sized it like Tilley Recommends. and it fits perfectly.it without a doubt works well in the sun and holds its brim shape in the wind. i haven't worn it in extremely windy conditions but windy enough that a boonie hat would be flying around.the material is thick but not too heavy and it feels soft and pliable.i haven't worn it in the rain yet but i`m sure i will.it is more then a boonie hat, and more then a typical sun hat or brimmed hat.but it feels like its more and its worth more, it is very well built and well thought out.it does get hot in direct sun especially on a very hot day like i was using it in my yard, i don't know what hat wouldn't get hot with extreme heat and sun and no real breeze.i will say ... MoreThis is a comfortable hat, really comfortable.i sized it like Tilley Recommends. and it fits perfectly.it without a doubt works well in the sun and holds its brim shape in the wind. i haven't worn it in extremely windy conditions but windy enough that a boonie hat would be flying around.the material is thick but not too heavy and it feels soft and pliable.i haven't worn it in the rain yet but i`m sure i will.it is more then a boonie hat, and more then a typical sun hat or brimmed hat.but it feels like its more and its worth more, it is very well built and well thought out.it does get hot in direct sun especially on a very hot day like i was using it in my yard, i don't know what hat wouldn't get hot with extreme heat and sun and no real breeze.i will say when there was a breeze even a slight one the large open grommets in the hat moved air quite well. and considering i got the dark green color that's helpful.i am without a doubt happy with this hat and highly recommend it.
i bought this back in early fall 2022 after my older brother recommended it to me. I bought the cotton duck version as I try to use organic materials and I know this comes with less breathability, so keep that in mind! if you want something that breathes more get synthetic.I wore this around at the zoo first in super hot, sunny weather. I found this to work well especially paired with sunscreen as someone who burns very easy. I managed to survive this trip with no sunburns!I have since used this a few times outdoors hiking and I can say the same, good hat! I love it! :)
This overpriced bucket hat looks so dopey on my head that I might have to take it back. The straps are weird. I'm not sure what's supposed to happen with them. They just kind of don't work. There's no way to just throw the hat on and cinch it up under your chin, no buckle thingie to adjust it, just knots. They're just big shoelaces without the shoes. The sizing is too small so, after carefully measuring, I still ordered the wrong one. The color looks darker in real life; it's more of an olive green than a khaki. The quality of the materials is high, but overall, this hat has too many issues.
I'm mostly really happy with this Tilley hat. The brim, like with most Tilleys, is sturdier than most sun hats. Many sun hats have a brim that's quite floppy so even a breeze ends up compromising the protection from the sun as the brim flies upwards, exposing your face to the sun. The brim is also not too rigid in the way a cowboy-style hat would be. It's a heavier weight fabric than sun hats and the cotton means it won't wick and dry sweat quickly, so I don't where this on really hot days or for significant physical activity because I would overheat. It is nicely breathable on moderately warm days and you can tell it's genuinely built to last. Tilleys are a worthwhile investment in that regard. I've worn it in up to 24 C sunny weather for walks and gardening. The ... MoreI'm mostly really happy with this Tilley hat. The brim, like with most Tilleys, is sturdier than most sun hats. I've worn it in up to 24 C sunny weather for walks and gardening. The sizing was reliable. The 7 5/8 size fits exactly as it should. I like being able to depend on this brand's sizing. The only issue, which isn't the fault of the hat, is the "khaki" one I ordered, which appears as a light creamy beige in the image, like the classic Tilley hats of the past, ended up being a medium grey. Not a deal breaker, because it's still a light enough colour when in direct sun, but it's so much more dull than what I wanted. It's not even close to the image used, to the extent it must be a mistake, because it's more significant that a matter of minor variation in device screen settings. I kept it anyway. Otherwise happy!
Original T3About 10 years ago I found a T3 Tilley floating in the lake (no ID inside, no body attached). Since then I have worn the treasured hat hiking and on several long sailing ocean passages. Between the salt, sweat, and sun, it is finally wearing through. Repairs have been made with sailcloth and stitching,.... but it's time has come.T3W ReplacementToday I received a T3W that I ordered as a replacement. While a fine hat, I am a little disappointed that there are No Maple Leaf Brass Snaps, and surprisingly NO Brag Tags. These were quirky items that gave the hat personality and character. I can not recommend this hat highly enough. I've owned this hat for a year now, it's made been with me through some epic hikes and adventures, and has never failed me. I hadn't left a review until now but this week we were walking through York and I banged my head on a tree knocking my hat into the river ouse, I couldn't believe how heartbroken I was thinking I might lose it, I managed to fish it back out with a tree branch ( they do float ) and I'm going to have to be without out it for a couple of days while it drys from washing and a new bit if waterproofing. Love this hat.
