Tame Impala - Currents (Vinyl)
Most of us not quite as publicly as the artists and super stars that grace magazine covers and online articles. When you first drop the needle on Currents, Tame Impala's third studio album, you'll bear witness to that change almost instantly. Kevin Parker, the mastermind behind the Australian psych juggernaut, has seemingly dropped his fuzzed out guitars in favor of synthesizers and the slightly sugary side of pop. Despite the initial shock you might experience if you haven't been paying attention, Currents is dazzling and dreamy in all the right ways. Parker's ethereal falsetto leads the way through the rolling bass lines and sinewy synths. His songwriting and production skills feed his experimentalism and this has led to some of the most artful pop music to be released in recent memory. Pretty much every song on the album will have you begging for more. This is pure, dreamy pop music as Kevin Parker hears it. Consider yourself lucky he decided to release an album's worth of it.

I was really excited for this album as its on of my favorites until I realized I was given a copy with duplicates of sides A/B and the lp with side C/D is gone. Half the album was not included and that’s very disappointing that I have to return this and wait another like week to get a new copy.

I found this remarkable musician on YouTube and I haven't regretted a moment of it. I play "Let It Happen" every day, sometimes twice. The song energizes me and astonishes me with every playing. Having grown up on Keith Emerson, I am disposed to synths. Kevin Parker is a supremely talented man. Each song is worth repeated listening. He even includes a short song in the style of Philip Glass, another of my musical heroes who the entire electronica genre owes a great deal.

I picked this CD up because Interscope decided not to include a download card with the vinyl edition (I was shocked!),Well, I'm happy I did, because the CD sounds miles better than anything iTunes or other digital sources could offer. Kevin Parker cares about fidelity & rich, full sound, so if you want to appreciate this album to its fullest, grab it in a digital format. The music itself is admittedly quite different from the prior 2 Tame Impala full-lengths - while guitars have been largely replaced by synths to carry the songs, the melodies here are still just as catchy and absorbing as always.Whether you're going for a drive or in your room with your headphones on, you'll be happy that you went for the CD instead of something inferior.

This album is amazing. Every song hits, and it sounds amazing on vinyl. I did not have any problem with skipping like others claimed. Part of the “skipping” mentioned in other reviews is either the part of the first song that uses skips intentionally, or the fact that they are using cheap suitcase turntables. The packaging and cover is very sturdy and stays completely closed unlike most other 2LPs i’ve purchased.
One of my favorite LPs to date. This is always my go to vinyl to introduce people to my record player and stereo system. The album is full bodied with so many sounds and notes to enjoy. Tame Impala transports you with their sound. Would highly recommend to anybody who is a fan of psychedelic rock or similar.
Record arrived in a well packaged thin record box. I have had experience in the past of receiving records with record cover being bent. This one was perfect.Music is a personal choice so no comments there.Overall online buying and receiving expereince was great!
This album is crazy good. Everything from the lyrics to the soundscapes propelling them further. Every song is so dreamy and electric. There is also a very eclectic mix of genres here: acid rock, alternative, funk, electronica and pop which makes it sparkle. The album has a very serene, chill yet vibrant vibe to it (if that makes any sense). Kevin Parker's vocals are very airy and sweet, even when the lyrics on some songs veer towards something emotionally heavy. Get this album and ride all it's sonic waves!
This was my first taste into the tame impala universe and this was great. The production on this record is one of a kind and impeccable. The vocals also add to the experience. Definitely recommend.
Excellent change of form from this great psychadelic rooted Australian band. They've traded in their guitar driven sound for synths. This isn't always a good thing with some bands, but Tame Impala still manage to make great and catchy songs while not compromising the integrity of their music. They bring you on a musical trip where this album could be a drug to those looking to escape into a blissful state of euphoric melody. Their wall of sound is still here and layered to find so many intracacies upon repeated listens. Wonderful band, wonderful album.
This cd is in my opinion is Tame Impala best album they've come out with. Iv listen to them since the start and this is probably the best sounding, quality wise. Such a well put together album. I never really get tired of listening to it. The songs from start to finish will keep you listening to it. The music almost has a dreamy feel to it. Like something you may here in a Sundance film movie. It something of a old 60's - 70's sound but more of a Tame Impala feel then a Beatles feel/sound. If you love music and need something new/different/great this would be the album to pick up. I hope that you can enjoy it as much as I have and still do.
