The ship is a plastic model, so "durable" is not 100% -- if you drop it onto the floor it will brake, but it's durable as a model. Tamiya makes well detailed products and the Battleship Tirpitz is well made.

Great model, not built yet, so can't comment on part fitting - however, most people suggest that it's a really well made kit.

Finally purchased this after eyeing it up for months while wanting to get into larger scale ship modelling. I knew 1/350 was big, but this kit is BIG. It's a slightly older Tamiya kit (late-90s?) in a very attractive updated box. Initial reaction upon opening the kit (other than its massiveness) was positive. The single-piece hull (woo!) is finely moulded and not at all chonky-looking as can often be the case with bigger scales. The sprues are nicely detailed and appear to be well-proportioned. I will be trying to get a hold of some aftermarket up-detail kits (wooden deck, brass barrels, and some phot-etched parts) when it comes to build-time, because you may as well go all-out with something this massive. I'll try to post an updated review once it's finished. Main ... MoreFinally purchased this after eyeing it up for months while wanting to get into larger scale ship modelling. It is the best quality kit for the time period it was developed. Tamiya kits ovall, including this one are super!
Another great kit. It all depends on what period you want to model the ship. Early middle or last configuration. Its a base to do all that.
I'm making the "King George V" at the moment - the "Tirpitz" will be waiting for me on Christmas Day. However, Tamyia have a deservedly high reputation for the quality of their kits. I'm oly sorry that they haven't come up with a 1/350 scale HMS Rodney.
The PE added some truly great depth to this very well detailed model. Still hunting for the slight differences from the Bismarck though.
This is the second of three models I purchased in one go, the first being the Bismarck and the third being the Yamato. With this ship being the Bismarck's sister ship it will be the same build as encountered with the Bismarck with only a few slight minor difference's. The attention to the details is spot on as with all Tamiya models.
A Great kit to build very detailed and looks great painted well. Tamiya comes through again with another wonderful addition to my collection
Great Kit nice detail builds well Tamiya does it again and yet another wonderful addition to my collection
