It is the world's first1 4.1x zoom lens for mirrorless APS-C system cameras with a constant aperture of F2.8. The optical construction of the 17-70mm F2.8 comprises 16 elements in 12 groups, including two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lenses and a Hybrid Aspherical. The arrangement of these special optical components ensures high resolving power across the entire image area. The new standard zoom lens is equipped with Tamron's proven VC image stabilization. It uses a proprietary processor to effectively compensate for camera movement and has been enhanced with a newly developed advanced algorithm. With the new zoom lens, the subject can be photographed at a closer distance than with conventional fast zoom lenses for APS-C cameras. With a 70mm telephoto focal length, impressive close-ups are possible at a minimum distance of 39cm. The 17-70mm F2.8 weighs only 525g, and with a length of just 119.3mm and a diameter of 74.6mm, it is exceptionally handy for a zoom lens with built-in image stabilization.
