Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC Usd G2 For Nikon F
World acclaimed ultra-telephoto zoom reborn; meet the all-new next generation The SP 150-600mm G2 (Generation 2) ultra-telephoto lens with upgraded optical performance enables handheld shooting with remarkable definition. This new lens builds upon the success of the current SP 150-600mm (Model A011) which Tamron first introduced in December, 2013, including better overall optical performance and faster AF speed, VC enhancements, plus Fluorine Coating, FLEX ZOOM LOCK and tele converter. Rebuilt from the ground up to meet Tamron’s strict quality standards and design specifications, this new zoom combines smart engineering and high performance with quality craftsmanship, durability and user friendliness. Capture the moment with sharpness and accuracy The Model A022 is equipped with a USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor that delivers excellent responsiveness and control. AF speed is significantly improved from current model, and it enables accurate high-speed focus even when capturing moving subjects. Enhanced optics meet greater versatility The SP 150-600mm G2 includes three LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements which completely eliminate axial and transverse chromatic aberrations. Anti-reflection technologies, eBAND (Extended Bandwidth and Angular-Dependency) Coating and BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) Coating, improve light transmission and suppress internal reflections, including light reflected off the camera’s image sensors. So even when taking a backlit or semi-backlit photograph, ghosting and flare caused by reflected light are fully eliminated. Additional enhancements expand the lens’s versatility. For example, MOD (Minimum Object Distance) has been reduced to 2.2m so you can enjoy tele-macro photography and dramatic bokeh.

I own the first generation version of this and although it is a great lens I'm finding that this new version is much improved! The build quality, image stabilization and autofocus are all next level. With the image stabilization on the G2 you can use a much slower shutter speed than the G1 resulting in much better low light shooting. Also the G2 has much better weather sealing. I love it. If you've had the first gen for any length of time do yourself a favor and get this lens. It might not be the Nikon 600 F4 that we all want, but for us mortals who don't have 11 grand to spend on a lens this comes close enough. Super sharp with my D500

Took the lens on an African safari and took some awesome photos with it. I am very glad I rented it for my trip since I wouldn’t have much use for it at home. It is a great long telephoto zoom lens but has a minor design flaw. The auto focus and the vibration control buttons on the side of the lens are too loose and were constantly switching off. I hope Tamron puts some kind of lock on them or makes them harder to turn off.I would definitely rent from Lensrentals again.

This lens delivers on what it promises. The pictures are sharply focused, even at 600mm of zoom. The automatic focus is fast, but it does have its moments of indecisiveness. This can be limited or avoided by using the focus limiter switch set to the appropriate range (when you're focusing close-in or far off). Its size is manageable, even in wilderness settings, but its weight may cause difficulty for some. Bear in mind though that it is, in fact, one big hunk of glass wrapped in metal, so the weight is to be expected. All things considered, if you want to reach out to. 600mm worth of zoom, this lens is for you.

I am enjoying this lens so far, it works nicely with my D780 body. The sharpness is great and I see very little if any chromatic aberration in my photos. The lens is quite solidly constructed as well. The switches are sturdy and don't slide out of place from accidental brushes. The autofocus gets confused when shooting against the sky zoomed in higher than 300mm. I have missed a few shots because of this, but I learned to back off the zoom for flying birds until the lens gets zeroed in. My biggest qualm with this lens is that, while it fits snugly with the body, it will rotate a noticeable amount when locked in. It is barely enough to see, but it is enough to hear and feel, especially when rotating to zoom.
I will keep this short and to the point. I got this lens for two basic applications, shooting wildlife from a distance so I would not disturb the subjects and to open up some aspects of landscape photography where I can zoom in on some details but need some distance to get the view I am looking for. Initial impression straight out of the box is that the lens appears solid and well built. It’s very stout. I noticed a criticism of the lens hood on another review, I have no issues with it, it goes on and off easily. On camera I had no issues with the functions and/or connections. I enjoy manual shooting and everything works as it should. Image quality is really very good out to about 400, then starts to degrade a bit past that, but I would expect this drop-off for a ... MoreI will keep this short and to the point. I enjoy manual shooting and everything works as it should. Image quality is really very good out to about 400, then starts to degrade a bit past that, but I would expect this drop-off for a lot of reason, not the least of which is some of my subjects are quite far off and there is a lot of atmosphere between the lens and subject, so any haze, dust, heat waves, Etc are bound to be amplified at this level of zoom. As I said, I enjoy manual shooting, including focus, so I have only used auto focus a little and it seems to work fast and accurately. Image stabilization isn’t something I will comment on because I primarily use the lens on a tripod and leave IS off. I will add that I have another Tamron lens that I have used at rodeos and other riding events where I did need IS and it really impressed me how well it worked. With regard to the tripod, your going to want a nice solid one, I tried it on my backing tripod and it was a little frustrating due to the movement being exaggerated by combination of the extreme zoom and the tripod not being as solid as it needed to be for this lens style. On my better (more solid) tripod it awesome, so no criticism of the lens, it just needs to be on a solid base. This is my second Tamron lens and I am very happy with both, I think they are producing excellent products. I would recommended this lens if your looking for good quality at a reasonable price.
I had never used this service and I was a bit skeptical about it. I decided to give it a shot and see how things went. I must say that renting the lens and having it delivered was great. I loved the fact it was delivered to me and I didn’t have to go anywhere to pick it up (like other companies). The lens were in excellent condition, the packaging and care was very nice and adding the fact I could use exactly the same box to return it made it even better. What else can you ask? The pre-printed shipping label to return your lens? It was included also!I really don’t have any complaints at all. I would definitely rent items from this website at any time over and over again and recommend it to anyone in need.
I purchased this lens to shoot soccer in the Fall and softball in the Spring. I've only had a chance to shoot a few test shots, so the true test will come when the soccer season starts. But the few shots I've taken look acceptable, and the lens focuses reasonably quickly. But I can't imagine carrying this thing around in the woods and shooting hand held all day. Aside from the sheer weight, when fully zoomed to 600 mm, it's difficult to hold still and keep the subject in the viewfinder. And this lens is a bit lighter than the Nikon 200-500, weighing in at 4.38 pounds, versus the Nikon more than a half pound heavier at 5.07 pounds. Well, maybe I just need practice, but if you intend to use this lens hand held, get in shape! 3 stars, only because I have not used it ... MoreI purchased this lens to shoot soccer in the Fall and softball in the Spring. I purchased the lens when it was on sale, but even at its regular price, I think it represents good value.
I like the lens and plan to keep it. But I did not appreciate these two issues when I bought it. (1) it is heavy and difficult to hand-hold in the field. (2) I failed to understand image quality issues with extreme telephoto lenses. This lens is good but at highest zoom you can see that it does not focus very sharply. If I could do things over again, I'd get a fixed telephoto. But having said that, I like the lens and will continue using it. However, no more zoom telephoto lenses for me.
First impressions of the Tamron 150-600 G2 are that it is exactly as described in both consumer and professional reviews. I have taken it out several time in the past week for birding and found that while it is solidly built and relatively heavy it is also manageable with my 70 year old arms and hands. Out of the box, Its focus is quick and tack sharp with my Nikon 800e. The back-ordered complementary tap-in console that was offered with this lens will arrive tomorrow. If ever needed I will now have it for fine-tuning this lens. Nice to have! Since this is my first super long zoom, I am experiencing a learning curve, especially for tracking and shooting birds in flight. I trust that my pictures will match my expectations as my familiarity with the lens improves. ... MoreFirst impressions of the Tamron 150-600 G2 are that it is exactly as described in both consumer and professional reviews. Since this is my first super long zoom, I am experiencing a learning curve, especially for tracking and shooting birds in flight. I trust that my pictures will match my expectations as my familiarity with the lens improves. I've also added a Cotton Carrier chest harness to my kit, making hiking with this lens quite easy and enjoyable. I've casually tested the lens now in various light conditions and, as expected, find that a tripod or monopod helps give nice results. I am able to pack this lens in my medium-sized Lowepro bag with a Nikon 24-85 zoom and Tamron 70-200 lens giving me the full focal range from 24 to 600 mm. I have other fixed focal length lenses that I pack separately. But, for walk-around shooting as a serious hobbyist I can't imaging having a better set-up than these three zooms, allowing me to switch from landscape photography to wildlife shooting with ease. In order to maximize my new zoom's potential I also now have a gimbal on the way from Adorama, proving the adage that if you need one thing, you also need something more. Thank you, Adorama! Thanks also to my dear wife who approved these purchases!
I read a lot of reviews and chose the Tamron 150-600 G2 over the competing field of similar lenses. In part because I already owned a Tamron 18-400mm. Plus the 150-600 was priced competitively, weather sealed, had the greater reach I needed, good vibration control, camera body upgradability with an FX lens, and the size & type of the tripod mount. After connecting the lens to my Nikon D7500 the weight and length was a surprise. None of my camera bags will hold it but the tripod mount makes a good balanced carrying handle for the short term. I have shot everything handheld because most of what I like to photograph is constantly moving in, out, and over our backyard so using a tripod or monopod isn't practical. The quality has been excellent with details that we hadn't noticed before. The moon, a possum, Starlings, squirrels, and sunsets results have been impressive. I expect focus issues when a bird is in a tree with limbs in front and behind sometimes causing sharpness to shift between points. Manual focus works well. I am very happy with my purchase, and it does what I was hoping for.
