Taylor 812ce 12-Fret Grand Concert Acoustic Electric Guitar

(9 reviews)

The 812ce 12-Fret V-Class Grand Concert Acoustic-Electric embodies the essence of the Taylor playing experience. In 2014, Taylor’s flagship series went under a comprehensive redesign by master luthier Andy Powers who deployed an array of voicing refinements to bring out another level of musicality. Combined with Taylor’s innovative V-Class bracing, these elements deliver enough versatility and style to meet the needs of anyone from hobbyists to pros. The 812ce Grand Concert comes with an included Taylor deluxe hardshell case for portable protection and convenient storage between gigs. The Taylor 812ce also features Taylor’s innovative V-Class bracing system, which optimizes the response of an acoustic guitar by boosting volume and sustain as well as resolving the intonation issues that have long plagued acoustic guitars. Because of V-Class bracing, notes have clearer, more consistent response, and the whole fretboard is brought into greater auditory alignment for an improved musical experience. Guitars with V-Class bracing are easier to tune; the pitch sounds purer and more solid, and electronic tuners can more easily locate notes for quick, precise tuning. Taylor's ES2 is a revolutionary pickup design with Taylor’s patented behind-the-saddle pickup, featuring three uniquely positioned and individually calibrated pickup sensors. Because the pickup doesn't sit under the saddle, the bottom of the saddle comes in full contact with the bridge, allowing all the nuance of the guitar's tone to come through clearly whether playing acoustically or plugged-in. Whether you’re playing through a PA, plugged into your favorite acoustic amplifier or direct into recording software, the Expression System 2 faithfully conveys the voice of your Taylor guitar. The Taylor Expression System 2 operates through a proprietary 9-volt battery compartment and easy-to-use volume and active bass and treble controls.

Out of my 5 Taylor's, this is my favorite for sound and the feel!Superior craftsmanship, and is best of class in the nylon series. This GC is a comfortable size. The only improvement might be a bevel arm rest.

Better every day

I wasn't sure about getting a guitar this size, but wanted one for finger style I have been working on. When it arrived it was as beautiful as pictured. Then I started to play it,…. It plays easily right away. Shorter scale is perfect for finger style. Sound is awesome; bright with warm overtones. I fall in love with it more every day. The beveled edge is a small thing they could have omitted and it would still be a stellar guitar. But adding it makes it just that much more comfortable and shows a dedication to go all in.

Great guitar and. Great experience

I bought my Taylor at my local music store. I believe in shopping locally and I appreciate the relationship with the management and employees. There’s nothing like a local store for service and support.I really am enjoying my Taylor. I’m a finger picker so chose the 12 fret the sound is wonderful and the playability superb.

I absolutely LOVE my Taylor 812ce DLX
24 August 2019

I've been looking at Taylor 12 Frets for a long time now but the money and time never seemed to line up for me. My wife and I went to Sam Ash to purchase resonator strings. While there we stepped into the acoustic room and I picked up a dobro to play around with. My wife spotted a Taylor 812ce slothead and knew that was the one I'd been harping about for the last five years or so. She pulled it off the wall and asked me to play it. I swear it was like pulling on a pair of comfortable shoes. It fit my frame just right, it sounded AWESOME, an INCREDIBLE VOICE from such a small bodied guitar. It was kind of dirty and the strings were dead, but this was THE one. I swear it was like pulling on a pair of comfortable shoes. It fit my frame just right, it sounded AWESOME, an INCREDIBLE VOICE from such a small bodied guitar. It was kind of dirty and the strings were dead, but this was THE one. We discussed it for a few minutes and before I realized what was going on, my wife was headed to the counter to pay for it. We got home, I pulled the strings off to give it a good cleaning and new strings. When I was putting the A string back on, the pearloid button on the Waverly style tuner crumbled in my fingers. I packed it up and went straight back to Sam Ash, approximately 45 minutes after our purchase. The sales clerk who sold us the guitar was still there. I explained what had happened. The manager, who was also listening to my issue, asked the sales associate to go to the acoustic room and see if there were anymore guitars back there with the same style tuners. He explained that sometimes during the production process these Waverly style buttons have microscopic imperfections that come apart like this. The sales associate came back to the counter with another slothead. The manager robbed the A tuner from that guitar, replaced my broken one, and sent me home with another fresh set of strings. Other than that issue, this guitar completely exceeds my expectations in all categories. I look forward to many happy years playing this instrument.

I would not buy this product again

I've waited quite some time before writing this review as I wanted to base it on sufficient experience. I bought this guitar in Sept 2021 (6 months ago...). Acoustically it is gorgeous. Its plays and sounds incredible. I was planning to gig with it regularly but that became problematic. When I plug it in it has two problems. The output signal is very weak even at full volume. I have another guitar with a K&K puremini pickup (which is passive) and it has WAY more signal than the Taylor with the ES2. The second problem is that it sounds very harsh....not natural at all. I have adjusted the pickups per Taylor's instructions and it did not fix either problem. I called Taylor and they didn't seem to be interested in helping beyond telling me how to adjust the pickups.... very disappointing. I am not the only one that has had this experience. If you google it (or search on YouTube) you'll find plenty of people that have had the same problem with the Taylor Expression 2 System. After spending this much money I had much higher expectations. I now have to spend even more money to buy an after market pickup and have it installed.

It is an overall great instrument.

The size of the body and fret board is perfect for me. It looks wonderful...very classy!I feel the action is not quite right for me but I can't seem to adjust it correctly. But it truly is a wonderful guitar.'I agree with many reviews that say it is better for finger pickers. Also, there is much talk of the new V bracing. My untrained ear cannot really pick up the difference. Sorry!

My Taylor 812ce is amazing!
15 January 2023

My new Taylor 812ce is amazing! From the almost never ending sustain, to the deep rich tone, to the incredible intonation, this guitar is so fulfilling and pleasing to play. It’s beautiful to look at too. I’m not a big guy. This body size for me is perfect. It is very comfortable to play, especially with the bevel. I mostly play finger style (I’m a pastor and play mostly hymns and Christian songs). For me, this scale length makes it easier to navigate the fretboard. This guitar has plenty of volume too. The V-class bracing is really amazing. Great job Andy! I would totally recommend the Taylor 812ce.

Best guitar I've ever owned, and I've owned more than a few! 12-Fret/V-Brace design projects much better than I imagined. Excellent intonation up and down the neck. This is the most comfortable instrument I have played and find myself losing time during longer sessions.Thank you Taylor Guitars for all your efforts to advance the art of building of acoustic guitars.

Wonderful, responsive guitar.. Unuque sound
7 July 2017

This guitar was bought to replace a 1994 Taylor 812C which is also a great instrument. There were several reasons for the switch. 1) The 1994 is a 14 fret model with a 25.5" scale length while this guitar has a 12 fret neck with a 24.75" scale length. As a person with very small hands, the increased comfort and playability are substantial. 2) The 1994 has no electronics 3) The new 800 series bracing pattern (since 2015) and different 12 fret bridge position give this guitar a very warm and balanced sound. I bought (and returned) a new Taylor 712 which, by comparison, sounded thin with a weak bass. Check out a video from Gryphon Stringed Instruments which compares this guitar to a Taylor 512C and a comparable Martin and Santa Cruz.
