I already had a few POs, and wanted to see where it all started. This drum machine may be small, but it packs A LOT!The sound won't be clean hi-fi, but rather has some characterful dirt and grit. Despite being deceptively simple, it's quite usable, sound great and comes with interesting performance effects and features. For the price, you can't ask for more!But don't be fooled: it's not a toy, and can fit perfectly in a mix or in for your sample collection.

A well designed sampler that is fun to use, and because it is pocketable there is no excuse NOT to make music.-1 star: Although it can be backed up on a computer, the data cannot be converted to midi or multitrack audio for DAW integration. Considering that a fully fledged 128 pattern song can be made on the unit, it would have been nice for all the effort put into making a song could be mixed and mastered later.There are workarounds, but I am sure Teenage Engineering can allow us to convert and integrate the backup data into our DAW.

Yeah, if you want flowers light and breezy and clinique you can probably do that here, but if you want sex in every form from garbage to minima you would not do anybody any harm by bringing this boite with you at all times. If you haven't played with any of the Pocket Operators, have no fear. It is very easy pick up and start making loops and patterns. It's compact, built well, and the sound sampling is fantastic. Is it a complete production pocket machine? No. Can it help you be creative with its limitations? Yes. While I haven't tried out the sound transferring which is unique to this Operator, the option is there. Syncing this with some other Pocket Operators can yield some very cool results. I would definitely recommend the CA-X case to go along with this too. This little guy is definitely one of my desert island items now!

It's cool because see the guys he the machine gives it appeal. It's not cool because it's sharp. Perhaps there is an external case for it available. I would but it, especially for storing in your pocket. That can be tricky... you wouldn't want to snap it in half.... however, physical aesthetics aside. It's pretty rad. I can see getting pretty obsessed with it and I barely have delved that deep into it. For instance I haven't begun sampling sounds in the mic just yet. I will say it was a bit confusing at the beginning...but after I absorbed the directions by the 10th time I got the hang of it and in a night you could definitely get started making stuff and perhaps staying up later than you intended. It's basically 16 one bar tracks( depending on the BPM) So you can make sixteen different one bar songs or create a verse and hook or even just a 16 beat... For the cost and what it does, I'd say it's worth buying. It's bare bones but still cool.

You have to actually play with it to appreciate how cool it is and most importantly how great it sounds. This tiny drum machine packs a punch! It is so easy to create complex beats and tweak the sound. It took me 10 minutes to be very comfortable using this device and have tons of fun. It is not a gimmick or toy, it can really create really high quality sounding drum beats, with deep bass and interesting and dynamic instruments. The desktop app with which it shares its engine is a great companion to this device and in my opinion well worth the additional cost. However, even without it you can download sound packs created by the community and the process itself is very cool and to some will bring back the memories of their 80's Atari, Commodore or ZX Spectrum.
Teenage Engineering does not disappoint! There is something very relaxing and rewarding about using this tiny but mighty drum machine. It sounds big! The flexibility the ability to load sounds from the Sonic Charge software is huge and expands the possibilities of this device almost infinitely. I wish the LCD graphics were little bit more informative instead of being a tad cryptic, but at the same time it is nice to do everything by muscle memory and ears.
