Tenaya Ra Woman Climbing Shoes 5½

This is the perfect blend of amazing grip and yet SO comfortable. I love that they are flexible, but still stiff enough of make the tiniest footholds easy to stay on.

I agree with the other reviewer that this is very misleading. This is a women's shoe, the URL states so, the description states so, and despite the picture on the website, the shoe received says RA Women, not RA LV. I assume Tenaya at one point replaced "Woman" with "LV" so men could also wear this shoe but still trying to get rid of the old stock first? (my guess)The problem is that the shoe size is listed in Men's not Women's. I knew I wanted the shoe, I knew what size I wanted, yet because of this, ordered an incorrect size and now I need to return which makes this so inconvenient because I don't have a Backcountry anywhere near me and need to pay to return it back. Maybe it's the banana boots I've put in but so far this doesn't smell like my old shoes. I'd gladly repurchase when these wear out. I indoor boulder exclusively. Size is true to size too. I wear 6 in non-sneakers (heels etc) and these fit perfect in WOMEN'S size 6.

Good warm-up or all-day shoes

I can wear these for a day of sport climbing outside without pain for most of the day—they’re way gentler on my feet than my more aggressive shoes, which I save for projects. In the gym, I warm up in these and have found that they do pretty well. Anything that requires toe hooks or especially precise footwork isn’t ideal for these, but they’re pretty good middle-ground shoes. My first pair lasted about a year climbing indoors 2-3 times a week and wearing them for usually around 20-30 climbs per session; plus about 40-50 days outside (some were very short half-days or 3-pitch days, though). I even wore them to follow multipitch crack climbs and they held up pretty well, significantly better than the extreme pain of jamming in a more aggressive shoe.

Issue with shoes when I ordered twice

I ordered these for my first climbing shoes and I was very excited to receive them. When they arrived, they did not look like the color in the picture and honestly looked a little bit used. I decided to return of course, for the poor look of the shoe and also the sizing was off. I did an exchange for a different size and the shoes arrived today. The sizing is no different than what I got and the pair looks exactly like the other one. Looks like they were used a little and there is yellowing on the shoe so it doesn’t look at all like the color on the site. I will be returning these and am upset that this happened twice.

Love these shoes

These are some of the most comfortable shoes I've ever worn for their aggression level. The toe box is incredibly precise and I get a lot of feel. Perfect for overhang and small holds. They aren't the best for smearing indoors but they'll get the job done. I feel like I've found my forever shoe. I am street size USW 7/7.5 and sized down to the 6.5My larger foot is a bit cramped but feel it was a good tradeoff to fit better on my other foot. These are very good shoes and don't have much - if at all- of a break in period. Backcountry gear was a breeze to order through and return the sizes I did not want. Really appreciated their customer service.

Love this shoe

The women's RA fits me perfectly. I had tried on Massi's out in the same size but it was too wide for my medium width foot. These fit my foot great with no rubbing at the heal or gaps. I like that these are easier to take off between climbs. These shoes do great on any type of angled wall. Edge work to smearing to heal hooks all solid too. I'm buying a 2nd pair to have rotate between resoling. I used to wear the Scarpa V Forces and these are far superior. I have a large big toe and these shoes don't make them hurt like other shoes do. I typically wear a women's size 8.5 street shoe and I bought a 42 in the women's RA. It's possible a 41.5 would work but that size was not available to try on.

Second pair of these great climbing shoe!

This is my second pair of these wonderful climbing shoes. I usually kick them off between climbs but they are quite comfortable and the tip is helpful getting on some higher grades without it being horribly uncomfortable. The velcro makes for an easy off and on and has held up well over many months of climbing indoor and outdoor.One word of caution I'd use with these is to be careful with the sizes. Order it in men's sizes even though it's the "female" style. This has caused confusion when I ordered them both from Moosejaw and my climbing gym.

Wrong sizing backcountry

I wore a hole through a previous pair and was repurchasing, so obviously I like this shoe. But backcountry messed up the sizing. It’s a women’s shoe so I ordered a size 8, received a men’s size 8 womens size 9. I now see in the fine print that it’s listed in men’s sizing, but why would you do that? Women’s shoes should be listed in women’s sizing. Do better.
