The combat gets easier and the beauty of Skyrim renders those glitches into obscurity. The whole mythology and dragons are cool too. The way that Bethesda have packaged the story and the world of Skyrim is impressive -- their attention for detail incredible. Battling the dragons offers tense action from vicious arial attacks to manic slashing on the ground. These brutes are tough but killing off these endangered creatures is achievable and somewhat rewarding. Running through the trees while looking overhead for a thing of nightmares certainly triggers some long lost primal instinct :)The leveling approach in Skyrim is fair, and for me, seems much more natural. I think that Bethesda has done a great job here.I'm playing this on the PS3 and while this is an older platform now Skyrim plays well. If you love big open world rpgs, then you will love this. Be warned: just as dragons eat unsuspecting virtual inhabitants, Skyrim eats time your time, showing little mercy. It is incredibly immersive and there is always that next dungeon to explore, just this last one... Oh, where does this path lead-And to the people involved in the creation of Skyrim I offer you a round of applause - you blew my expectations out of the water.Clapclapclapclapclap :)

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a great game. The Elder Scrolls series’ emphasis has always been to create an immersive world to let your character go where you want them to go and be what you want them to be. Races have different characteristics which will affect the kind of character you want to play as. I ended up with an imposing High Elf with a jutting chin, red hair and goatee. The Elder Scrolls games differ from other RPGs with the method that your character advances. Rather than killing enemies to accrue experience points, you simply need to practise at something to get good at it. The variety of skills accommodates for many play styles, with them falling under 1 of 3 categories: Combat, Magic & Stealth. Once a certain number of skills have been levelled up, you can level up your character as a whole and receive a point to invest in a perk for one of your skills. For example, you could use a point in the 'Destruction’ school of magic to allow you to cast destruction spells with both hands, making them stronger. Another is for time to slow down briefly when aiming a bow (Archery skill), or for potions you brew to have a slightly stronger effect (Alchemy skill). With 18 different skills, there’s tons of room to make all sorts of characters.Skyrim gives total choice to the player. You can choose to ignore the main quest if you like and make your fortune as a treasure hunter, thief, etc. Talk to everyone you meet and before long you will have an assortment of quests and tasks to complete. The world is like a kleptomaniac’s wet dream as there’s so much detail and so many objects to interact with. There are dozens of books you can read. Skyrim also contains various factions you can join which will affect how people interact with and talk to you. For example, there is a civil war of sorts and you can choose to side with the Empire, or the rebellion (no, nothing like Star Wars).Something new is the addition of dragons. Once you’ve reached a certain point in the main quest, you will begin to randomly encounter dragons on your travels. These encounters are not scripted at all, and the dragons’ AI allows them to soar through the sky, land on the ground, perch on a building, breathe fire, etc. They are tough enemies, but are not unbeatable. Guards fight back when a dragon attacks a village and the townsfolk run for cover. The game isn’t perfect though. The problem here is bugs. It’s crashed numerous times for me, and occasionally I’ve had some weird graphical issues too. With a game of this scope, though, I’d be surprised if they had released a flawless game. There’s also tons of stuff I haven’t covered either, simply because I haven’t done it in the game yet (the ability to become a vampire or werewolf springs to mind). It’s not a bad idea to create several characters and use each one to pursue different parts of the game. Another minor downside is the removal of certain things that were in previous games, but it’s obvious that they’ve had to cut it to avoid problems, or to keep it balanced. All in all, it’s a great game and is a great way to lose several dozen/hundred hours.

Awesome but not perfect.

So many hours spent on this game and I regret none of it.I spent hours just running around the landscapes, exploring crypts, lakes, mountain sides, hunting deer, giants, nirnroot and the occasional wayward traveler. The game was even more gorgeous at night, with the auroras lighting up the sky and the two moons making it all the more alien. There are so many ways to play; in my first play through I remained completely neutral in the civil war before finishing the main quest. With my next character, I sided with the Empire, which change a few portions of the main quest to reflect that decision. You can choose to be a ninja in the dark, sniping your enemies from afar, or a juggernaut who simply beats everything to death with a sledge hammer, or a mage who kills it ... MoreSo many hours spent on this game and I regret none of it.I spent hours just running around the landscapes, exploring crypts, lakes, mountain sides, hunting deer, giants, nirnroot and the occasional wayward traveler. Or you can be all of those and do whatever picks your fancy on that day.But the bugs. Oh dear, the bugs. They were everywhere; some where amusing such as the flying mammoths and lock-limbed dragons while others prevented you from finishing quests, such as one that stuffs up a objective, so I cannot complete the College quests due to glitches. If you don't have LIVE, like me, then you are plum out of luck. The main side quests...while fun, did leave a lot to be desired, especially the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves Guild. I loved how sneaky and ninja you were in Oblivion with the Brotherhood, such as poisoning the bandit Chief without getting seen meant long minutes of skulking in shadows and sneaking past guards, while in Skyrim it was moreso just crashing in there and killing everything, making it seem more cutthroat and brutish, not at all like an assassin.I couldn't really take the Thieves Guild seriously either, as they all seemed to be kissing Marven's backside throughout the game, causing me to try and shoot her in the face in rage after I got fed up with it. However, she was an essential NPC, and even after I became Guild Master I couldn't kill the self-righteous witch. :| (Though it was hilarious when she threatened to sic the Brotherhood on me, when I was the Listener)I also found was that no one really cared about your race; even if you were Argonian or a Khajiit (which are banned from entering cities) you could just walk right in and become a Thane. Even being a High Elf had no real impact, apart from the occasion NPC remarking it in passing. While those three aspects (the first especially) REALLY ruined some of my gaming experience, they didn't destroy the whole game, as the enhanced graphics, beauty, fun and replay-ableness of Skyrim made up for that fact. It's not perfect, but then what is- You'll spend many hours on this game.

...unless you fancy being a beta tester. This game has potential to be very good if they ever actually finish it, however at this point in time it is a disaster and certainly not fit for sale. The Skyrim engine is instantly recognisable as being vastly similar to Gamebryo, despite the claims that it uses a 'brand new' engine and the "Creation" rebadge. The engine shares many of the shortcomings of Oblivion, plus a host of new ones. GPU-bond in outdoor environments and disproportionately CPU-bound within towns, the game will bring even the most modern systems to their knees despite it's dated visuals. GPU-bond in outdoor environments and disproportionately CPU-bound within towns, the game will bring even the most modern systems to their knees despite it's dated visuals. Be prepared for frequent crashes to desktop, input lag issues and mouse sensitivity fluctuations. Dungeons are plagued with stuttering. Patches so far seem to be breaking as many things as they fix.An attempt has been made to improve combat over the lousy system implemented in Oblivion. This has been partially successful, but first person fighting still leaves a lot to be desired. A lot of the third person stealth strikes and coup de grâce moves look very clumsy, and the victims often utter victorious taunts as their throats are being cut.Dragon 'shouts' are an interesting addition to the game. This innovation influences gameplay in Skyrim about as much as the Nanosuit influenced Crysis. I like the way it provides a wide range of effective powers, even to those who prefer not to spend character points on the conventional magic skill trees.Skyrim epitomizes the half hearted console port, with a frustratingly unintuitive UI, reduced cursor precision and a favourites system that breaks if you re-map your keys. At least you can still quicksave. The score is definitely one of the game's primary strengths. It falls just short of Oblivion, though it shares the same composer. The track trigger system has also been improved; remember when a 1 second encounter with a single Mud Crab would cue half a minute of dramatic battle music- Well that doesn't happen anymore. The quality of voice acting in this game is extremely inconsistent, and on average, about equal to the low standard set by Oblivion. But the most striking inconsistancy in the whole game is in the visuals. Just like Oblivion, it can look stunning one minute, then really quite ugly the next. Maximum draw distance has been improved substantially over Oblivion, but issues remain causing some objects to only render properly when you are right on top of them. Characters in Skyrim look pretty good now, humans actually look like humans. The physics engine offers no improvement over Oblivion, objects are still launched around at random. As for quests- I found the main quest dull and thoroughly thankless. Fortunately there are countless other quest lines which are far more rewarding to complete... Thats if you are actually able to complete them and don't hit one of the many quest destroying bugs present in Skyrim. Also, the open exploration concept is nice, but bear in mind that if you go raiding every dungeon you find and killing people at random, you may be disabling future quests.I must admit to hours of enjoyment playing Skyrim, but it's been an experience rife with frustration and dismay due to the incomplete nature of the game. I urge any potential buyers to hold off their purchase for the time being. Just think about it: What will you lose by waiting 6 months to or even a year for the game to mature- Graphics-wise Skyrim already looks like something from 2006 so it's going to have pretty much the same visual impact whether you buy it now or a year down the track. It's not a multi-player game, so there is no player base to worry about. Playing the game for the first time will be just as gratifying whether you do it now or in a year's time. By then it'll be much cheaper, (and hopefully) a lot more playable.2 Stars because I paid $100 for a broken product.

This game is stunning. A mixture of Morrowind, Oblivion & Fallout. New enemies, new creatures and a massive landscape to explore. You can easily spend hours traversing the terrain, encountering a rage of friends, foes and creatures. Mammoths, giants, bears, snow sabre cats, foxes, giant spiders. Creatures can kill you with a few good blows and human foes can be just as tough. Bandits, Assassins and a good mixture of races. You will find enemies yield and become afraid of you in combat and cower or run.The only negatives; steam, yes this game required steam to be able to play and steam crashes from time to time so quick saving often is a good idea.Sound can be an issue too with crackling and the inability to hear voices if you are not looking the npc's directly in ... MoreThis game is stunning. You will find enemies yield and become afraid of you in combat and cower or run.The only negatives; steam, yes this game required steam to be able to play and steam crashes from time to time so quick saving often is a good idea.Sound can be an issue too with crackling and the inability to hear voices if you are not looking the npc's directly in the face. There is a sound fix for anyone having issues - go into the control panel-sound-speakers-properties-advanced and change the sample rate to 24 bit, 44100 HZ.I am running this game on ultra high settings and it runs very smoothly. In my opinion this game is worthy of a five star rating.

Potential GOTY

The Elder Scrolls series are back with their new, highly anticipated 2011 game Skyrim after 2006's Oblivion! In this title, Bethesda Studios changed their system and implemented a new one called the "Create System" whereby players can create and define their character ultimately as you'd expect with any past Elder Scrolls game. What sets this one apart and may be a ground-breaking factor of this game is the character attribute system which allows you to choose a perk after levelling up. This perk tree can truly let players make their own, unique protagonist as you level up and draw a path on this custom constellation. The quests, creatures that you encounter along with action will be never-ending as you plunder your way through forests, tundras, dungeons, caves ... MoreThe Elder Scrolls series are back with their new, highly anticipated 2011 game Skyrim after 2006's Oblivion! In this title, Bethesda Studios changed their system and implemented a new one called the "Create System" whereby players can create and define their character ultimately as you'd expect with any past Elder Scrolls game. Bethesda have also redone the combat of both first person and third person so you can better duel wield melee weapons but also, combine magic spells from both hands into one to create a larger, more powerful spell.I highly recommend this game to any PS3 owner as this will be arguably the best RPG out on the PS3 come November 11th. I would strongly suggest any Elder Scrolls or RPG fan pick this up as this title may be what they've been anticipating for a long time. Easily potential game of the year and will provide any gamer with a lengthy gaming experience so well worth checking out!

Quite surprising
18 December 2011

To be honest, I've never liked fantasy games, books or most movies (With the biased exception of Lord of the Rings). When my friend told me of Skyrim, and how it was another Elder Scroll game, I simply rolled my eyes and went back to playing Fallout 3 (Completely ignorant of the developer).IN the end, there was so much hype about Skyrim that I ended up getting it just for the hell of it. And because there were not that many games I was interested in. Nekk minnit, I'm seventy plus hours into a game I never thought I would enjoy.I briefly played Oblivion and was annoyed with the class system and a few other features that made me dislike the game even more. So when I had reached the fifth hour of Skyrim, I was amazed at the difference and how the game allowed to to shape your character entirely, not setting you to a specific class. The major downfall I have with the game is that the PS3 version is quite buggy. Snow-balling lag as your save game size gets bigger, random quest/game killing glitches and even full system crashes. There have been a few patches since release, but a fair few problems have actually arisen since (I.E. Dragons flying backwards, more random crashes). In the end, all I can say is that I have had more fun with this game than so many others in past years.

Hope such statement lives up to our expectation and also that many players could enjoy the game.Wish they could release statements about Mobile Graphics Card compatibility though, since many people nowadays carry fairly game/high performing laptops.Pity though that they did not release any Demos. But then again trying to develop a demo of such a huge game would be quite difficult OR pointless. But THEN again, many players would want to know if their rigs are suitable for the game and also see what we all could expect from the real version. Can't wait for 11/11/11 the release of Skyrim.

Time for a review
18 November 2011

I see a lot of previews but no review, so ill write one :DFirst introduction to the game your plunged straight into the frozen world, as you get control of your character you start to learn how to play the game and the various actions you can preform, all in a stunning starting sequence. As the game rolls on you get to branch out and kinda do your own thing, you can explore as you like, quest when you want, put things off till the bitter end, it doesn't matter really, the game waits for you to be ready. Early into the main quest you fight your first dragon and I won't spoil it but I will say its excellent. There is more incentive to delve into dungeons, with word walls being hidden in their depths for you to uncover and become more powerful. The game play, well I've been playing for days and I still have a long way to go. The fights are brilliant. The leveling system starts you out easy then gets challenging as you get up the levels.Overall, I'm VERY satisfied with this game! I highly recommend it. A stunning piece in the Elder Scrolls game series

Total badassery
23 November 2011

Oblivion was a breakthrough to gaming, but Skyrim blows Oblivion to pieces in every way. Skyrim offers a huge amount diversity in regards to gameplay, for example the visuals are intensely realistic. I found myself trudging through a harsh blizzard and could barely see 10 feet in front of me, I actually started to feel cold, I then came across a small village and headed towards the local inn to warm up by the huge log fire they had burning. The shear amount of items the game has is incredible and each one has been masterfully rendered in 3D, certain items even contain clues to puzzles in which you must examine to find the answer. The amount of weaponry and mage abilities are literally massive, as are the dungeons and cave systems found throughout Skyrim, over 150 in ... MoreOblivion was a breakthrough to gaming, but Skyrim blows Oblivion to pieces in every way. The shear amount of items the game has is incredible and each one has been masterfully rendered in 3D, certain items even contain clues to puzzles in which you must examine to find the answer. The amount of weaponry and mage abilities are literally massive, as are the dungeons and cave systems found throughout Skyrim, over 150 in all, and each have been crafted to be absolutely unique to the other. The best part of this game is how open ended it is and how you can play at your own pace, you choose when to do a certain mission or choose not to do it at all. Each mission is broken up into several segments which gives you a chance to have a break and explore, or sell goods or upgrade abilities, whatever you like. Another notable mention that sets Skyrim apart from Oblivion are the dragons and the dragon 'shouts'. Scattered across the world of Skyrim are words of power that have been inscribed in the dragon tongue, each word enables the player to perform a powerful ability by 'shouting' the word, it could be fire breath, slow time, relentless force, or any number of other powerful abilities. All up, if this game doesn't turn you on then you aren't human. Also, I pre-ordered this game which Mighty Ape delivered promptly and I received on release date, thanks Mighty Ape, I had problems pre-ordering from nzgameshop.com who took 8 days to deliver my Battlefield 3 game, not happy, Mighty Ape FTW!!
