This is definitely an above average movie with a future that I certainly would not want to live in. I will not rehash the plot as that is everywhere at this time. The acting was very good by pretty much everyone, particularly Woody Harrelson. The sets, from the "Games" field to the majestic and quite high-tech studio, were very well done with, IMO, well-edited cinematography. I have not read the book but am quite sure that much had to be left out due to time constraints. That said, what I believe to be the major points were made - especially that hope can, indeed, triumph, even in what appears to be the worst of circumstances. I would not really recommend this for kids under 13 or so, due to the content and nature of the "Games." Having both the Blu Ray and DVD versions makes it easy to play anywhere I need to. A definite plus.

Best book series I've ever read. Completely different genre to my normal niche but demolished them in 3 days, I couldn't put them down! Every page had me in suspense, each new event unexpected. The character portrayals are absolutely magnificent, you feel as though you know them in real life. I absolutely fell in love with the story; the landscapes, the sounds, the emotions all feel so close and intimate that you become Katniss, you see the world through her eyes. Fantastic, absolutely flipping fantastic.

This is a great presentation of one of the greatest series ever filmed. I read the books before viewing the movies, and I wondered how they could ever do them justice on the big screen. Well, not only did they accomplish this, but they showcased the wondrous talents of a fantastic cast, making superstars of Jennifer Lawrence and, to a lesser extent, Josh, Liam, Woody, Elizabeth, Stanley, Lenny, Donald, Sam, Jena, Phillip, Julianne,... The hunger games movie is one of my favorite movies. So I just had to read the books. I found the first book as good as the movie. Five stars for sure. I decided to read the second book before the movie, just because I could not wait....However, the second book feel short a little, for me. Lost a little something, but still, I enjoyed it and. I had to start the third book, because of the cliff hanger at the end of the second book. But the third book was a real let down for me. I was disapointed. I do not want to spoil the books for anyone. This is just my opinion. I will say, I will be the first to see the movies when they come out. Happy reading.
It's reasonably priced and displayed in primary colours. There are prettier boxed sets out there, but this one has a simple aesthetic.The story itself is now a classic of dystopian fiction
The discs arrived promptly however The packaging was crushed & so were all of the cases. I immediately tested each disc to make sure it was not damaged....luckily it wasn't. I am still finding tiny pieces in my carpet from the cases. Recommend using right size packaging for multiple discs in the future just FYI. Love this series & glad I purchased strongly recommend....amazing on Blu-ray.

But the real surprise in this movie comes from Josh Hutcherson who plays Peeta Mellark, the boy tribute from District 12. His character is more difficult to play, because Peeta is in the same time more limited but also more complicated than Katniss. Josh Hutcherson could have very easily fall in one of the many traps which are build in Peeta's character. By overacting or underacting he could have make him a wimp or a passive follower or an immature kid, but he avoided those snares with grace and his Peeta comes out of this movie as a surprisingly complexe and also a very likeable character. He is certainly not a hero and a fighter like Katniss - but until the very end he preserves his honor, in a deadly place where he shouldn't ever be send. The games themselves are very skillfully described and are a very dramatic tale, full of surprises and twists. There are still many more good things to say about this movie, but I believe you should discover them by yourself. One more thing however about the book - it is of course possible to see and greatly enjoy this movie without reading the book, but I believe that reading the novel first is a good idea. This movie is a masterpiece!
I found these books very interesting because they had such great introductions. The way the characters were introduced was great and exciting, you learn so much about them. You can picture the exact figure of each character individually in your mind. Suzanne Collins is a great author, making these books exciting and hard to put down. Making it a trilogy, Collins has different ideas for each part of the book; creating it into parts and chapters, leaving readers in suspense. All 3 books are great and I'd read them again for sure!

Most people will have seen the films, which are very good, but filmmakers give their interpretation of the books and these are not half as good as the pictures in the minds eye. These are excellent books for someone in their teens to adult, probably a bit challenging for younger folk both with language used and the dark story too. All in all an excellent read!
