The jacket is not advertised as being a slim fit, but it is. I found the forearms a bit tight, and I am not that muscular. But the worst thing is, you cannot unzip the jacket with one hand. You must use two hands and fiddle with it until eventually the zipper comes free. It's made by YKK, which is a normally top-of-the-line brand, except it's thin plastic. I'm told by the store representative that all the jackets of this type are hard to unzip. Vanity Fair, you need to fix this it looks pretty, but it is not functional. I have returned mine.

Okay, this is long but worth the read.I'm somewhat of a TNF snob and have countless pieces of clothing, backpacks, gloves, hats, etc. I'm 6ft and hover between 175 and 180lbs, I am a medium in everything from TNF.I wanted to love this jacket, I first ordered medium. I knew this item was slim cut before ordering but the shoulders were so restrictive it was hard to move. Driving, for instance, made the shoulder area so tight I was afraid it would rip. The sleeves would ride up 2 to 3 inches above my wrist if I did something like tie my shoes.Long story short I traded for a large which had an equally terrible fit for different reasons. It looked like I was wearing a pillow case so I returned that too. This item might be fine if you literally do not move your ... MoreOkay, this is long but worth the read.I'm somewhat of a TNF snob and have countless pieces of clothing, backpacks, gloves, hats, etc. I'm 6ft and hover between 175 and 180lbs, I am a medium in everything from TNF.I wanted to love this jacket, I first ordered medium. Make these a tad larger and with a little bit of stretch and you might have the best jacket on the market!

I've used this jacket for winter backpacking, winter climbing, Nordic skiing, and as a causal downtown jacket. It's stylish and functional. I've never had any cold spots and it retains warmth better than any other synthetic jacket I've used. The water repellency is decent, BUT it dries SUPER quick, and unlike down jackets still keeps you toasty when damp.I use all my gear hard/ around fire and sharp tools and I haven't scratched or ripped this jacket at all, there isn't even a stain on it.Great outer layer in dry conditions mid-30 degrees and above and great mid layer for anything below freezing.I might buy a second one with the hood just as a backup because I love this jacket so much. And the price is completely fair.Self-packs down to about 10 x 4 inches if ... MoreI've used this jacket for winter backpacking, winter climbing, Nordic skiing, and as a causal downtown jacket. It's stylish and functional. After doing research and reading reviews I wasn't sure if I'd love this jacket or if it would be warm enough. Let me tell you it's amazing. It's very comfortable, cozy and offers lots of movement. It's also very flattering and slimming. I did order a size up from my regular size as it runs a tad small, and fits perfect. I wore it traveling throughout Europe and it kept me super warm and dry in wet climate. It's equivalent to 600 series and is great in temps 30 and above. The attached hood is a nice benefit that isn't too clunky and keeps you warm. I've owned several NF jackets and this by far is the best so far.
After reading reviews, I was worried this jacket in size small would be too tight, but it’s a great fit. I’m 5’3”, 117 pounds with a 34D chest and 37” hips. It’s somewhat form fitting but not tight. Very flattering cut that ends mid thigh. I doubt it could be worn over a heavy sweater but I don’t like added bulk, especially when I’m driving. Light layers underneath would work though. Purchased in May so I’ve yet to wear it in cold weather. I live at the Jersey shore, where winters can be milder. All in all, I’m delighted with my new thermoball jacket in shady blue!
Warm and lightweight. Mid hip length. Perfect for me in 20-40 deg F weather. Easy to layer underneath for colder temps. I have a big head and the hood does a better job than most at covering it and coming far enough forward on top (I wish jacket hoods would accommodate a ponytail better). I don't love how high the zipper collar comes up and rubs my check, but it can lay down when the hood is down. I wear a medium shirt and bought a large jacket. Still has a streamlined fit but arms are big enough to accomodate a sweater or lightweight jacket underneath.
Love it, I am male, 5'9 150 lbs, wearing a size small. I'm often a small-medium depending on the top. i'm a dense, skinny lean muscle type of person. Lots of clothing tends to fit big on me, slim fit is amazing and I feel like this jacket immediately fit me and has kept it's form and function this last year with almost everyday use. It's a very form fitting jacket. it's not bulky but remains warm. I noticed other reviews saying the slim fit is too small, but if you are on the skinny side, this jacket fits beautifully. there is just enough room for a mid layer as well.
Bought this to replace an older ThermoBall Eco coat. This was my third. The quality was noticeably worse overall. The material and logo look cheap compared to my older coats. The zipper broke within less than 2 months and North Face insisted that the coat be sent back for repairs with a turnaround time of at least 4-6 weeks. Can't be without a coat for the winter. They offered no alternatives so basically the warranty is worthless. Will not spend the money at North Face again. Very disappointed.
Received as a gift and love the fit and lightweight feel. It was also really warm. However, within a month, there was already a tear by the pocket, and a thread had come loose on the arms. I was shocked at the poor craftsmanship and substandard material from NF. I only wore this on dog walks and commutes; it didn't get the normal active beating that my other NF items do, yet, it is the only item that I have that has fallen apart. Submitted to warranty and they said nothing was covered. Sorely disappointed in the quality of this from what is supposed to be an "active" brand.
i had the previous version, and i like it already. the version 2.0 is even warmer. before i purchased it, i compared it with patagonia. However, i like this northface style more. i tried it for more than a month already. its really nice! keep me warm in nyc city when temperature around 40s or even around 30s without wind. However, i really hate the stitch quality. i already see bad thread. and the outer shell is not strong enough to fence off rough area. i hope Northface honor the life time warranty.
