These mid boots were supposed to be a replacement for my tried and tested Endurus Hike mid boots, also by The North Face, which were extremely comfortable and cushioning to wear and which I had used for years but which have been discontinued. This replacement product failed to make the grade. The material joining the tongue to the ankle support on the Endurus hike melded smoothly with the material of the ankle support and was imperceptible when walking. Not so with the Vectiv Fastpack mid. The harsher material was joined in such a way as to create a right angled join that dug into my ankle and rubbed to an unacceptable level. Gone too was the soft, cushioned walk while an unnecessarily high footbed had been added to make the boot very uncomfortable. So far so good, shoes are light weight as advertised. Very fashionable, and ofer lots of traction. Used for hiking and work as a hospital RN. Unfortunately 1 week in the foam around the exterior sole got scraped up, they are certainly not as resilient as the old futurelight vective model. Also both this model and the previous have ankle shoe lace groves that latch on to each other resulting in almost tripping over them from time to time.

Fastpack = moderate exertion = sweat = need for breathability, not waterproofThey are incredibly comfortable and light and probably the best mid height option available in my opinion. I generally am team trail runner but also have use for a boot (when carrying heavier loads or going off trail at a slower pace). If they were non-waterproof they would be perfect, so I'll reserve a 5 star rating and some more cash for that version (if TNF ever decides to make them)

These shoes are extremely light and comfortable. They are great for winter trail running as they support your ankles in the uneven snow/ice/mud. Funny, the first day I used them they had a loud audible clicking sound "like the old boggle game". My wife could hear them and she was in front of me. It was so annoying that I was convinced I was going to return them. Well after the 10 mile hike, the click started to go an away. The next run/hike it was totally gone. I'm so glad I didn't return them because they've been amazing this year running the trails. They are not insulated so long winter hike are not advisable.
Firstly, don't expect these boots to be waterproof. They are up to a point. What they do brilliantly is breath and dry out quickly . They are very comfortable and extremely lightweight too. Perfect for long trails where weight is critical. Wear some good merino wool socks and you'll be fine. Better to accept your feet will get wet on a serious trail but breath and dry quickly than wear goretex and sweat and smell.Believe me these boots are very , very good.
I have used these hiking boots 8 times now. Love how comfortable they are. My longest hike was about 9 miles. They passed my test easily on the trails, river crossing and climbing boulders. I also did some city walking and they are great. I got them on sale. I would easily buy them for the regular price. They were a great buy. Time will tell with durability. So far so good.
I made a head-to-head comparison of several top-rated mid height hiking boots, and the North Face Vectiv Pastpack has become my daily walking boot for training and exercise. I walk 6-10 miles daily in a very hilly neighborhood on asphalt pavement. I must use orthotics in my shoes because of my flat feet. These boots offer plenty of cushioning for pavement walking and they easily accommodate my orthotics. They are the most comfortable boot I have tried. I am eager to try them on the trail, but I have no reason to doubt they will be superb. I am considering buying a second pair to have in reserve, since it seems everything is eventually discontinued.
Was looking for a good pair of walking boots that were comfortable to wear keep me dry and looked good... and these tick all those boxes. I don't need boots for extreme hiking or long treks so these looked ideal for me..I went a half size up and they fit well. Not sure if I would buy them if I needed extreme protection but for my needs lots of walking and the odd mild trail hike they are ideal and needed no breaking in and feel very light but great lace up for a secure fit. Waiting for a bit of rain to see if they are truly waterproof but I'm sure they will be fine... highly recommended as a casual walking hiking boot and the addition of a free pair of socks a nice bonus
I got these 2 days ago, and I didn't have the chance to take them out yet. They look and feel great, BUT they're NOT waterproof. Even small water droplets make them look and feel wet from inside and out, as you can see from the image. My second complaint is that they don't have good traction at all. I tried them at home and walking on my wet kitchen tiles was more than enough to realize that. I can't imagine what would be on wet/snow or icy pavements outside. I wanted them for the winter here in Illinois, but I don't see any reason to get a boots that are not waterproof and don't have traction for a winter season. Probably won't keep them just because of the look and feel.
Nothing but the best from North Face. This is a great looking and great fitting boot. Its about as comfortable as it gets. I did return these for now. I have a strong feeling that I will re-order in the fall/winter time. These are truly built to be waterproof. Lacing system is superficial so it does not penetrate the inner compartment, therefore it does not compromise the waterproof feature. I did not wear these other than trying them on, but I don't think the boot would be too hot to wear now but I think they would look better with pants rather than shorts. They "look" like cold weather boots. Other than that, they are pretty much perfect.
