I treated myself to this jacket since I was looking for something for wet weather. It is thin so I can also layer if I wanted to. I like to wear it w a light sweater during brisk weather in NY. I have not worn it in heavy rain so I can not judge if it is waterproof. I like the attached hood because I do not like carrying umbrellas in misty/light rain. I am also a NYC commuter so it fits nicely in my tote bag w/o the bulk if it gets too warm. I got it in navy because I wanted something different rather the typical black. I took one star away for the "crunchiness" of the material and it ran small. I bought it in a medium for wiggle room in case I layered but it fits like a small --I'm usually a small too. It's a nice purchase for travel.

I am giving this a conditional 5 star review because when I saw it in the store I thought it was super cute (I got the floral Int’l Women’s Day pattern) and I had to have it for my upcoming trip to Ireland in June. I plan on wearing it as my everyday jacket since it’s Dry Vent material should keep me from overheating while wearing it. I got the large even though medium is my size but it looks great and fits with the lightweight fleece I plan to take. The hood is a good size and I’m looking forward to wearing it. I expect that it will work great in any rain conditions. I am 5’10” and 154 lbs and the sleeves are long enough for me.

I've used a North Face waterproof rain jacket for over twenty years. This is my third one and the design has changed, or the ones that I have had previously have been discontinued. I'm not a fan of this one. There is a mesh liner which makes the jacket heavier and warmer. I live in Florida so this isn't a desired feature for me. Heavier is also not good if carrying it when backpacking. The weight also might be because the jacket material itself feels heavier. A side note, the previous jackets I had all had a defect in the material at the neck line - but one that wouldn't show for at least three years, so still a great jacket and with the amazing warranty that The North Face offers, they always replaced my jackets. For that reason alone I will always stick with North Face. The old jackets I would have given five stars and unfortunately I can't do that with this one.

Part of my reason for sending it back was that the pockets were very high so I was thinking the bigger size would drop them a little bit to wear your arms would naturally fall in a jacket pocket. I love the color (New Taupe Green) and the jacket is a great fit and very water repellent. I bought it in-store and wore it out into the drizzly, rainy city and ran into no issues. I am usually an XS, but I bought a size S for a more comfortable fit. (Also the store dint have an XS for me to try on, but I think I would still stick to the S.) The only thing that is difficult to get used to is the pockets. The flaps that cover the zipper on the pockets make the diagonal opening weird to get into. I appreciate the large flat size of the pockets, but the flaps facing forwards, not backwards like usual, requires extra effort to reach in or put something into my pockets. It was narrow in the shoulders which made it uncomfy to move around/the sleeves would come up if I did. The biggest reason why I returned it is because of the hood. It was way too small! If there was petite sizing available I did not see any.The outside pockets are located rather high up on the sides on the jacket. It’s uncomfortable to put hands in the side pockets. Also no inside pockets. The sleeves are to long for me. The hood is ok but no string to hold it against head, it tends to blow open letting air or rain in. Haven’t actually worn this in heavy rain, just a light sprinkle. Hopefully it will keep me dry since my other rain coat did not; and it was from national outdoor brand of weather gear. Not sure where else to go for a coat in this town. I don’t want to order one.
I love the color of this jacket and how light-weight it is. Even if its not raining and just a little breezy, I can put it on and use it as a regular Spring jacket. I am also glad for the thin inner liner; other jackets I tried that did not have a liner felt uncomfortable on my bare arms and I had to return them. I am happy to say I will be keeping this one. If I could change one thing it would be for the jacket to be upgraded to have a stow-away hood. The hood lays pretty flat though, so luckily it doesn't seem to mess with my hair.

I like that the hood is attached and there’s not a huge collar. The pockets are a good size and close with a zipper. I love the cord on the side! It’s great for when I want to make the jacket tighter around my waist. That best thing about this jacket is that even though it’s basically a spring jacket. I wear it all year around. It’s waterproof and wind proof. Light and comfortable. So when’s it colder I just wear a sweater underneath. Oh and it’s machine washable. It’s the best jacket I’ve ever owned and so worth the price!
