This item was a complete different edition from what I had ordered. Very disappointed with WOB as I have ordered quite a few books in the past.

An old favourite
28 October 2020

Bought for my grandaughter as she was reading this for homework and she wanted to work between computer screen and a printed copy which she was able to do. A lovely old favourite in my eyes although I think the youngsters now don't find the language quite so easy.

Beautiful edition

This is a beautiful edition, well worth purchasing. The color pictures combined with the title immediately captured the attention of my train-loving nine-year-old. He balked a little at the long chapters, but quickly got over that as he became involved in the story. He loves it!

Present to granddaughter
23 July 2020

We, as a family, were having a big outside meet-up, two weeks ago. I chose this for one of my granddaughters, aged 11. She is half-way through it and says that it is very absorbing. Can’t fault the price at £3. Together with one of The Works’appropriately titled notebooks at £2, all 5 of the “lovelies”; aged from 10-15, got a little reunion present, after 5 months of not seeing them. Excellent.

Stunningly lovely book.

This book took me completely by surprise when it arrived...it is stunningly beautiful;the cover is so lovely, almost padded it is so substantial and the book itself is so beautifully illustrated it is going to be just loved by my niece at Christmas. I highly recommend this to anyone at such great value and am considering re-purchasing for myself. (And I'm definitely no youngster!). It is,however,a classic story and this version just makes it even lovelier for all ages and new young readers will enjoy the discovery of wonderful story.

The film is brilliant family viewing. I bought this book only to see how the film followed the book. It mostly does, there are changes of course which are acceptable. The book is a good read -the language is wonderful.

In this much-loved children's classic first published in 1906, the comfortable lives of three well-mannered siblings are greatly altered when, one evening, two men arrive at the house and take their father away. With the family's fortunes considerably reduced in his absence, the children and their mother are forced to live in a simple country cottage near a railway station. There the young trio — Roberta, Peter, and young Phyllis — befriend the porter and station master. The youngsters' days are filled with adventure and excitement, including their successful attempt to avert a horrible train disaster; but the mysterious disappearance of their father continues to haunt them. The solution to that painful puzzle and many other details and events of the children's lives come to vivid life in this perennial favorite, a story that has captivated generations of readers and, more recently, delighted television and movie audiences. In this inexpensive, unabridged edition, it will charm a whole new audience of young readers with its warmth and appeal.
