The Young Rascals Groovin' Vinyl
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on dead-quiet vinyl at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's numbered-edition 180g 45RPM 2LP of Groovin' presents the album in fully restored mono. In addition, the painstakingly produced restoration includes "A Beautiful Morning," an early 1968 million-selling hit that reached the third spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and debuted as the first release under the band's then-newly truncated Rascals name. Blue-eyed soul and innocuous optimism have rarely sounded more contagious than on this audiophile-grade reissue. Expertly portraying the quartet's unmistakable harmonies, the analogue set captures the deep-seated personality and effortless melodies that seemingly occupy every passage. Reflecting the playfulness of the cover art, the members demonstrate a cohesiveness, chemistry, and charm made vividly apparent via the newly uncovered detail, airiness, and tonalities. Benefiting from the focus, immersion, and accuracy unique to mono, and free of any artificial panning or effects, Mobile Fidelity's edition lets the songs breathe and expand. Notes blossom and decay, voices rise and fall, and the craftsmanship of the arrangements emerges with revealing clarity. Long overlooked due to the dozens of other landmarks issued in the pivotal year, Groovin' now firmly earns its place in history as a masterwork.

Lately the Mofi releases have not been that great in terms of just plain poor sounding releases -even One Steps- [ AND some Quality pressings ] Glad to say thats not the point here. They got it right. Great release!

Actually, it's 5-stars for Music Direct. They are a class act company to do business with. However, the album itself is only worthy of 3-stars. But that's a MoFi issue and not a Music Direct issue. The original recording, from what I can tell, is worthy of a 33rpm reissue and does not have the sonics worthy of doing a 2-disc set at 45rpm. This should be a 33rpm issue at $30. I'm glad to have it in my collection because it brings back memories from when I was 13 years of age. But I would feel much better had it been a $30 purchase. Sonics are mediocre, at best. I have a very high-resolution audio system and it is very revealing. I have played this album several times, just to be sure. This is an honest evaluation.

This is a fraud. This LP was not mastered from the original studio master tapes like Mobile Fidelity Sound Labs used to do. It is sourced from a digital copy. This is not a MFSL "Original Master Recording ", it's a MoFi lie.

I bought this because it was a Mofi release and trusted that it must be a worthy title and I'm glad I did. I was never aware that this album existed, but now it's a daily listener. I'm glad someone at mofi and Music Direct saw it's potential.
I have mixed feelings about Mofi releases. In my case, about every other record I buy has some sort of issue. I’ve gotten seam spilts in jackets, warped 1-steps, and seen various issues with the vinyl itself.Sadly, this was one of those times that I encountered an issue. The overall quality of this pressing is quite good. However, on my B-side of the first record, there was some unknown goop on the vinyl itself and the pressing quality is very noisy.Mobile Fidelity is pretty good about taking care of issues. But, the hassle factor is a consideration. When you pay premium prices, you expect premium quality. It’s always annoying to have to report a problem and then work out replacements or refunds.Sound quality of this release makes it definitely worthwhile. My ... My experience aside, I do recommend this record. I just wish Mobile Fidelity would get their quality control in order.
Groovin' is the best record by the Young Rascals and the addition of the bonus track in this Mofi release (A Beautiful Morning), together with the great mastering and pressing, make this album a winner.
So, can someone explain why these titles were listed as Original Master recordings and now I see 30 IPS tape to DSD 256 to analog lathe.
The sound is mediocre just as its original pressing, The cover looks slightly blurry. I don't know MFSL has to destroy the cover art with their OMS band on the Top of the cover. Use an OBI of some sort and leave the cover art intact. Classic Records did the best sleeve replications and even with the records labels also.
Great classic remaster on 45 RPM vinyl. Excellent sound quality and fun to listen to. Collectors Item, Get it before it's gone...
Great old lp. I bought it in the sixties. Great to have a new high grade copy.
