Best Camp Seat EVER

I have experimented with a lot of camp seat options - the weight is key for me. This thing is the BEST solution I have found. 10 oz is lighter than almost anything out there and the sleeping pad is already in my pack. As a bonus this thing works with 20" Thermarest and Klymit pads - all lengths. Yup, the short ones work just as well. Not only that, but the warmth is real... you can actually feel your heat being reflected back to you (with a Thermarest pad) making this a great 3 season option. Well worth the investment.

I inflate my Neoair (an older All Season rectangular model) almost full, and insert it into the chair as shown - except that I don’t double over the seat. Instead, I let that bottom third extend out of the slot in the bottom of the chair, and now have a lounge chair. My legs and feet are also now elevated out of the dirt (or mud), and are insulated from the ground when it’s cold. I am careful about where I sit, since that bottom third of the pad is not protected by the chair material; if you’d like, you could carry a ground sheet on which to set the chair. When it’s time to go to bed, I don’t disassemble it. Instead, I just unbuckle the straps and let it lay flat, still inserted in the chair. The next morning (after using it at breakfast - no assembly required), I let the air out of it, fold the bottom third into the chair, fold the chair in half, and roll it side to side. Now I have a bundle that is about the same size as my tent poles, and I pack it down an inside corner of my pack (you could also strap it to the side or across the bottom of the pack, if you have the right compression straps.) If I want to use it at lunch, I just get it out, inflate it, and I’m good to go. (Inflation is simpler with the little two ounce battery powered pump Thermarest sells.)For half a pound, the ability to rest my back in camp is well worth it. With my back rested, I sleep better; when I sleep better, I perform better on the trail the next day.

Comfy and great back support

I have used this chair frame with my sleeping pad a half-dozen days over two backpacking trips. Once the pack is off my back this gives needed back support while sitting around the campsite. No more kneeling or trying to find the right log to sit on.

Decent Chair, little gimmicky
31 August 2022

Decent chair, very lightweight. I had a very specific use case, I wanted to see whether it would be able to sit me upright in bed to help with sleep apnea while in the woods. It wasn't able to do that, but that's not what it's designed for anyway. The reason I ended up returning it was because I couldn't justify keeping it as a chair. It's a little gimmicky. Sure it makes a nice chair but you're still sitting on the ground. And it's hard to really lean back into and be comfortable. It doesn't support the back very well. Almost, but not quite. I'll save my money and spend it on an actual lightweight chair instead.

Just right.

This is the best sort of backpacking chair for me and this one seems sturdy. I find it comfortable and I like the adjustability. I can sit upright or reclined at whatever angle I like and it can be adjusted to compensate for an uneven surface. Also, I can use it inside the tent, something I wouldn't do with other camp chairs.

Lightweight, Works w/ Many Pads
24 August 2019

Bought this almost 3 y ago to replace a misplaced, decades-old Therm-a-Rest chair kit and have used it for many backpacking trips. I love its compactness & weight and have packed it in a backpack's lower outer pocket and inside. Pads I've tested include: Therm-a-Rest 3/4" & ProLite, Nemo Tensor Insulated, and 25+ y old RidgeRest closed cell foam. All obviously have varying degrees of comfort & ease of assembly, but hey, a backpacker should possess more than a modicum of tolerance & patience. You will have to finesse any pad into the chair's frame. Finickiness will be immediately evident.Self-inflating Therm-a-Rest pads were the easiest to fit into the chair and had the "most level" and stable performance. You will have to finesse any pad into the chair's frame. Finickiness will be immediately evident.Self-inflating Therm-a-Rest pads were the easiest to fit into the chair and had the "most level" and stable performance. The Nemo requires very little inflation to fold & fit, and too much inflation after that results in the chair having a rolling/rocking action. This pad needs to be fine tuned into the kit. Nonetheless, it makes for a comfortable & cozy chair. Testing the RidgeRest was more out of curiosity than anything else. It had to be folded-up on the edges, but the cradled feel was just fine; the doubled-over bottom & top still made for a comfortable seat & back support.Concern: The pad will come in contact with the ground. Search the site for items that could puncture an inflatable pad.Suggestions: Don't bring the chair's mesh sack on a trip (cuts weight & it's just another item to stow when the chair is in use). Place the chair on a sheet of heavy plastic or Tyvek to help prevent punctures to an inflatable pad and keep the chair & pad cleaner; cut a groundsheet large enough to accommodate the chair, food stuff sacks, pot, etc., at your cook site.Bottom line: Chair kits are a backpacking 'creature comfort', not always a necessity. However, reclining on one in camp after a tiring day feels really good and sitting on it while cooking and eating is an extra treat. I never bring one in winter or if the trip's forecast is mostly rain [want to keep the pad dry]. This chair kit is lighter weight than most, relatively easy to medium tussle-ing to assemble, and because a multitude of sleeping pads fit to provide homelike comfort, it should be a consideration.

Seam maintaining support pole ripped after one use
10 August 2023

I've been using Therma Lounger-type products for decades and they've always lasted 5-10 years - until this new version. I used it literally ONE NIGHT and the seam around the support pole ripped, causing the chair to be useless, so I returned it. So disappointed in the poor design and quality of this new version of a once-favorite piece of gear!

Very Comfortable But A Little Fiddly

Okay--it is a good product but not a great product. Here's the good: it's reasonably lightweight enough for backpacking (but not for ultralight fanatics). And, once it is setup, it IS comfortable and easily adjustable for your body weight and how upright or leaned-back you want to sit. Note that this does NOT have legs--you are basically sitting on a leg-less chair. Here's how it works and why it's also not so great. The product is completely unpadded. That's why it's so lightweight. The padding comes from using YOUR not-included self-inflating sleeping pad. You could also use a foam pad like a Ridgerest Classic. To set it up, you fold over 1/3 the length of the sleeping pad and insert this double-thick part in the bottom of the chair, and then insert the remaining ... MoreOkay--it is a good product but not a great product. To set it up, you fold over 1/3 the length of the sleeping pad and insert this double-thick part in the bottom of the chair, and then insert the remaining single-thick 1/3 of the pad into the chair back. You CAN'T do this if the pad is fully inflated. You're best off letting it partially inflate, leaving the air valve open, inserting the pad into the chair, then closing the air valve. Then, you sit down and adjust the strap lengths until comfortable. So, some "assembly" required to setup. But here's the real issue: you need that pad to sleep on! So, now it's time to sleep, and you have to let the straps out, wrestle out the bottom 2/3 of the pad from the chair, get the pad fully inflated, and then you're good to sleep. But THEN, the next day, if you want to use the chair, you need to "reassemble" it, etc., repeat each day. One caveat: if you don't care about having any padding under your butt, you can use the chair without any padding at all in which case this is quite a fantastic product, right? :-) The construction seems quite solid and the chair is available for 20" and 25" inch self-inflating sleeping pads. My sleeping pad is standard length but it will work with any length pad.

Very nice addition in your portage pack; the comfort is definitely appreciated at the end of the day.

Nice lightweight little chair. Looks just like the photo in the description. The chair quickly became a "must have" addition to our annual BWCAW canoe trip, a great addition if you're doing day trips out of a base camp. The only draw back is the chair requires you to slightly deflate your sleeping pad and use it for the cushion, and there is a slight learning curve to putting it all together. This could be a little bit if a hassle if you're relocating your camo every night.Overall I'll be bringing it along as a welcome addition to our canoe trips.

Wonderful!

I tested this product at home to check which size I needed (I have a NeoAir and went with the 20" rather than the 25" - the labelling doesn't indicate which size fits with which product, unfortunately), and I didn't think it was that comfortable so was almost going to take it back - duh! Of course compared to my couch its not great, buuuuuuut when I took it backpacking I was SO happy I had it! To be able to sit and read in comfort, with back support was lovely (although no lower back support, but could jimmy that with a fleece or something). I'm not sure I'd take it on longer backpacks where there is less time around camp and weight is crucial (even though it's not that heavy, everything adds up), but for shorter ones where there is more opportunity for relaxing, I ... MoreI tested this product at home to check which size I needed (I have a NeoAir and went with the 20" rather than the 25" - the labelling doesn't indicate which size fits with which product, unfortunately), and I didn't think it was that comfortable so was almost going to take it back - duh!
