This relatively lightweight camping pad can be used as a sleeping pad OR as a seat cushion. When used as a sleeping pad during Autumn and Spring, it provides a decent level of warmth and padding due to the egg-carton shape structure of the pad. For optimal comfort, an inflatable sleeping pad should be used on top of this foam pad.Although the camping pad folds up nicely to minimize space, it does NOT come with any strap or bungee cord to hold it together. As a result, that is an extra item that must be considered when using this mat. The camping pad is true to the size, and light blue on top and reflective silver on the bottom.

I bought a premium brand sleeping pad and loved the high R-value (3.0 vs. 2.0 for the Z-Lite), this was in preparation for a 12 day trek at Philmont. Unfortunately (fortunately) it developed a slow leak on our final dry run (13 months after purchasing, just outside the REI warranty period). Actually multiple slow leaks at the weld points. Really hard to isolate and patch even with a bathtub handy. I considered switching to a different premium brand but found similar reviews for them. Also inflatable pads are NOISY -- that scrunchy balloon noise when I toss and turn is not friendly to fellow campers. So I'm switching back to the sleep system the other crew members use -- the good ole, can't fail, reliable Z-Lite. I learned my lesson which I share with you here.

I've been using these for years. The biggest advantage is its light weight and convenience. Because of its durability, you can throw it down just about anywhere around camp and sit on top of it without worrying about small sticks or rocks underneath it. If you're at one of those campsites where people have constructed 'seats' out of large rocks, you can put the Z Lite right on top of it for extra comfort and a whole lot of warmth. Everyone else in your group will be jealous... at least until it's time for bed.The tradeoff is sleep comfort. I find it rather difficult to fall asleep on this pad by itself. The pad smooths out the interface between your back and whatever bunched up item you place under it.

Great pad for specific uses. It is not a memory foam bed. This will get you through a cold night with good protection from the cold ground. A little thin for side sleeping but just enough for sleeping on the back. It's a little bulky for packing but it's very light. It doubles well as a seat. It will never get a hole and loose air. Amazing for putting under another pad. I can sleep on it for 2 nights before I want more cushion. Decent price when on sale. Full price is a little high. Pros: Durable, warm, versatile, light, price. Cons: Thin, bulky.
Like my title says, this is a great pad if you’re getting into backpacking and going on multi day trips. Is it the most comfortable? Not really. Are you meant to be sleeping in 5 star comfort in the wild? Well maybe. For the price, this item works, works well and can be used at any level of skill. It’s very light and will likely take up no space in a pack, since it will be strapped outside the pack..I have used this under inflatable pads for extra insulation and comfort. So you can really dress this pad up or down.It can also be cut into different sized pieces if you’re trying to go wild, it can be sitting pads, or a back pad for a pack.I think every backpacker should have one of these, you never know when it will come in handy, plus it can be a nice entry ... MoreLike my title says, this is a great pad if you’re getting into backpacking and going on multi day trips. As happy as I am getting this on sale, if this pad is regular price, I'd reccomend the Nemo Switchback for $5 more as it packs 20% smaller & has a luxurious ~0.2 inches on the zlite. Nemo's thermal coating also seems to have a protective layer on it for better durability.Otherwise:Amazing for EVERYTHING! instant comfy layer for picnics, beach seat, pre/post-portage napping, sun shade, fire-fanning, warm up a cold seat, or even a just-alright lake floatie (not a PFD ofc).I'm a side sleeper so glad to have something underneath my neoair in case of issues with the inflatable, plus extra warmth, and a foamy layer to contend with the rocks underneath. Took this pad with me on a few backpacking trips last summer. I don’t own an inflatable pad, and with this, I don’t need to worry about puncturing or set up time. It’s super versatile; I use it sometimes underneath our camper mattress to increase warmth, as a kneeling pad, and whenever I need to get on the ground I cushion myself with it. Super handy and not difficult at all to carry on the outside of your pack on the trail. Probably not the most comfortable pad on the market, but suits my needs just fine, providing enough padding and warmth.
Best ultralight sleeping pad!To me, backpacking and backcountry travel is about simplicity. This pad hits the mark. Lightweight, I can get it wet, dirty, throw it around, it won’t get damaged. I also use it as mattress insulation in the winter, paired with another mattress. It’s in my rescue pack for sitting around or making food in the backcountry. This was a no-brainer purchase and I recommend it. If you’re looking at this mattress but need that extra lower back support, I like to put my pack or clothes under my knees to relieve pressure in my lower back after big active days. That way I don’t need an inflatable mattress to be comfy.
I had been very excited for my upcoming backpacking trip with my cousin and grandma. I was trying to pack light, so I decided to borrow my step dads Z Lite Sol Sleeping Pad. I tested it out on the garage floor before I went and thought "This will be fine, its not so bad." I was SORELY mistaken. When it came time to get into the tent, I laid down, and although I felt no immediate pain, I later developed extreme pain in my upper back and shoulder. I was unable to sleep at all, I kept waking up with aching joints and having to shift around. This pad directly lead to the worst night's sleep of my life. The light weight is no where worth it. The extra weight that comes with a slightly more cushy pad (which I have used and enjoyed) is a much better option. This product should be used to torcher people.
Virtually indestructible is a stretch*, but this pad is still a great investment.I’ve used it by itself and as a base layer for my inflatable pad. Great for extra insulation and reducing the slip ’n slide of the air pad on the tent floor. Good sit pad, good for lounging lunches and midday naps on trail.Love the accordion folds. I had a rollable RidgeRest previously and it was a bit much to pack down. You will not get a good night's sleep if you use this pad by itself, but you will have a better night sleep than you would without any pad at all. It will keep you warmer and slightly more cushioned than if you were directly on the ground. Good for minimizing pack weight and the thermal reflection technology is legit. If it's all you have, get really tired before ... MoreVirtually indestructible is a stretch*, but this pad is still a great investment.I’ve used it by itself and as a base layer for my inflatable pad. If it's all you have, get really tired before crashing for the night :) then you won't care how thin it is.*If you end up in a scramble-y situation with a CCF pad on the exterior of your pack it will lose some chunks. It’s sad, but it happens.
