Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX Case

$69.00

(232 reviews)

The new Core V1 case from Thermaltake is a small and compact ITX case with a pre-installed 200mm fan at the front. The smart side panels can be replaced according to preference so that the window is left, right or on the top. This allows the air flow to be optimised for cooling or the optimum view inside the housing to be created. You don't just get a scaffold for a powerful mini system. The Core V1 chassis can accommodate a full gaming system with overclocked components and offers space for extensive cooling components.

1) Perfect sized cube chassis with easy to open sides and bottom with thumb screws. Very similar to Thermaltake Suppressor F1 cube case but a little cheaper with a full front ventilation grill. 2) There is a 6 inch maximum clearance for the CPU cooler height. I am using Noctua NH-D9L cooler, but NH-C14S can also fit with fan placement in the bottom. 3) I am using ASUS GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Dual-fan OC Edition which fits perfectly in the case. 4) I built my mini-ITX MB with M2. This front fan has only a 3 pin cable to connect to MB, so it runs at full speed with audible noise if sitting close to the system. 7) The power button is on the left side close to the USB3 ports, which is a minor issue. 8) Overall, this would be the smallest possible mini-ITX gaming case for smaller video cards, which can also take most Noctua CPU air coolers without any difference in performance compared to any water coolers, which frequently breakdown. Get one and you won't be disappointed.

For anyone that works in their case a lot: If you just leave the side panels off, I would consider it a decent inexpensive mITX/mATX test-bench. However, if you're fully putting it together and taking it apart often, I'd spring for something with much better build quality. In my mind, it's hard to beat the price for a case with this level of built-in flexibility, but considering the build quality issues, I'm not sure that I'm happy enough to stick with this case for my gaming PC. For a less demanding rig, though, it's a pretty fun design. It's accessible, easy to move around, quiet, and looks respectable.

First time builder. Perfect case for novices

The ability to move the panel looked good to me since I use a headphone all the time and wanted the headphone jack close to me. The ability to remove all the panels and build was extremely helpful. Forget trying to squeeze your hand into the corner to plug in a fan. Just rotate the case to get a easier angle. For a first time builder, I would highly recommend this case for it's ease of install. If there was anything I would change, I would recommend putting rubber padding on the screw points for the 200 mm front fan that's included. At max RPM, you will hear that fan a bit. And if you are a real stickler for cable management, this might not be the best option since there is no real hidden compartment behind a motherboard tray. You just tuck everything under the tray and secure it but it's still visible somewhat. That's not a real big issue for me so this case has been absolutely perfect. I highly recommend this case to anyone wanting to try building for the first time. It's almost cheating with how easy installing is.

Great case, quirky power supply install, but otherwise simple build!
23 July 2020

I put a Z490M Micro ATX motherboard (MSI MPG) in the case with a 120mm CPU water cooled (Thermaltake T120) radiator. It was so easy to open the case from any side. Literally every side (bottom included) comes right off with two finger screws. The front is held on by plastic latches that pop right off too if you need to move the power/USB buttons (which I did). The large front fan is whisper quiet! My only complaints would be the instructions manual and power supply brackets. The instructions were very bad and had I not found a video on YouTube I would have been lost for a while on how to install the power supply brackets. They could easily be redesigned and cut down to one bracket that could attach to the nearby middle cage. The instructions were very bad and had I not found a video on YouTube I would have been lost for a while on how to install the power supply brackets. They could easily be redesigned and cut down to one bracket that could attach to the nearby middle cage. But outside of this quirk the case was the easiest build I ever did (I've done about 5 now). I love the fact that you can move the power/USB/reset front switch to either side of the install and I had to since I'm keeping it under a modular desk and they would have been covered. I ran one 4GB NVMe PCIe M.2 as my only hard drive so I loved the fact that I could easily remove the three 2.5 brackets to allow more airflow. The modular mounting brackets for water cooled stuff is also a great feature. You can move them anywhere in the case to install radiators of almost any size! Add other fans is simple because of the modular design. I wish they could have squeezed a spot in for a BR/DVD drive but I understand why they didn't. I have a huge library of movies only BR/DVD, but I've ripped most of them anyhow so this wasn't that big a deal. I just bought a new copy of Windows 10 on a bootable USB stick and the install was simple (and faster). I'm down to only one computer with a BR/DVD read/write drive (even my new laptop doesn't have one) so I'll probably just buy an external drive once my last computer ages out to read my older media. I am truly impressed by this little case. My wife's desktop computer was getting a bit long in the tooth and I had an i5 8600k lying around. We were wanting to create a build with a small footprint, so I decided to look into doing a mini-itx build. I was able to find a new 1151 socket mini-itx motherboard from ASRock for $99, so I started looking at the mini-itx cases out there. I wanted a case that could fit a full size atx power supply, a full size 2 slot video card, and could accommodate a decent sized cpu cooler. This case fit all of the requirements and was just $60. It would not fit a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, so I started looking for another option. It would not fit a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo, so I started looking for another option. I came across a YouTube video where this guy was recommending a Zalman copper fin cooler with a 95mm fan that fit perfectly in this case (for Intel) and it was only $30. Man oh man, this case is pretty awesome. It is such a cool design, it compartmentalizes the components really well. The ATX power supply mounts on the bottom facing down and the case has an easily removable filter over the hole. The motherboard tray sits horizontally on top of the power supply and the video card (max 2 slot) sits along the nicely ventilated side panel. The other side of the case has two full size hard drive mounts, which this side is also ventilated. The top of the case has an acrylic window and the front of the case has an included 200mm case fan. The design of this case provides ample cable management space, I was blown away with how much space there actually was. Pros: Price for mini-itx case Fits full size ATX power supply Fits a full size 2 slot video card Fits 2 3.5" or 2.5" Hard Drives Has included 200mm front case fan (3pin) Very good ventilation Lots of room for cable management Can fit a 120mm or 140mm radiator in the front (Have to remove 200mm fan) Top, both side, and bottom panel are all removable and have thumb screws Front panel has some type of foam filter in place Cons: Top window is acrylic and not tempered glass Included 200mm front case fan is 3pin and is slightly noisy (being picky) Build quality is decent, but a bit flimsy (price fits this though)

I've now built 3 computers in this model case. I find it easy to work with; you can remove the sides, top, and bottom so there is easy access to make all connections. Mini-ITX cases are small so in general there's not a lot of room, but that's the nature of the beast for a small system build. I like the way the power supply is placed underneath the motherboard. I recommend using a SFX power supply (with an adapter), even though you can install an ATX power supply in this case. Because an SFX power supply is shorter, there is more room for excess cables. In addition, in general, the cables that come with an SFX power supply are shorter. In addition, in general, the cables that come with an SFX power supply are shorter. If you use an ATX power supply you'll have extra long cables that you'll have to manage - the 24-pin power cable is especially hard to deal with if it is extra long. You can use a cooler up to 140mm high. This means you can use an Noctua NH-U9S, but not a Noctua NH-U12S. Now that a lot of newer boards have a connector for a USB C front panel connection, it would be nice to have a USB C front panel jack as well as the USB 3.0 type A ports. Maybe a newer revision of this case will have that. PROS: * Sides, top, and bottom are all removable for easy internals access * Quiet front fan * "Stacked" power supply & motherboard design is nice * Plenty of room for a dual slot graphics card * Easy case to work in CONS: * No USB C front panel jack * Limited drive expansion bays * Would be nice to be able to purchase extra side/top panels with different grille patterns I've been building Mini-ITX systems recently and this is my go-to case for Mini-ITX.

It has been working really well you can close the lid on top but the side you cannot anymore it's just a little too tight for the RTX 3090. But you can close the front fan which is nice you just have to trim up a little bit. All in all this case is awesome and there's a lot of potential if you're willing to do your own mods. I do graphic arts. And I just started doing a little bit of mining and I do got to say one thing if you're going to be doing any type of mining with this type of rig do not do it the thing is way too hot. But it's perfect for doing gaming and graphics cuz it's not hot the entire time.

This case was an excellent choice for me. I'm not a gamer but I do a lot of video editing so I want the speed of a gaming computer but not the size. This case is small enough to not overwhelm my office. Additionally, because I do a lot of video editing I need a lot of storage space (hdd). I know ssd's are the way to go but they're still overpriced. I thought at first that I would have to configure the case with two 3.5" drives and two 2.5" drives because all the information online suggested that the hdd bracket could only be configured in this fashion. To my surprise I quickly realized that the bracket is actually designed to also fit two 2.5" drives in each bracket (See the photos). To my surprise I quickly realized that the bracket is actually designed to also fit two 2.5" drives in each bracket (See the photos). One hdd is attached via the four screw holds on the back of the drives and the second is attached via the special 2.5" modification built into the bracket. Since case had hold 2 brackets and each bracket can hold two 2.5" HDDs that's a total of four 2.5" drives. Since I have four 4 TB hdd that makes a total of 16 TB in one small case. Don't believe what you read in the questions and answer section. If your motherboard has four SATA connections you can have as many as four hdd in this case. And if your motherboard also has an m.2 slot you can also have that as additional storage space. I have my computer configured with four 2.5" 4 TB HDDs and one 2TB m.2 card for a total of 18 TB in one computer.

This is a great little cube case to build in. It's not a small case compared to many miniITX cases, but personally I think that's a good thing. If you are looking for a tiny case, look elsewhere. The top window is pretty cool allowing you to look straight down onto your components. You can also see inside from both side panels although those are just holes and not a window. You'll need to be extra careful with your wiring as everything in the top chamber is visible from all sides. Luckily the bottom chamber has ample room for hiding wiring. The PSU fan filter is a nice addition. This is definitely designed for air cooling. There is really nowhere to mount a radiator or pump in this thing. The PSU fan filter is a nice addition. This is definitely designed for air cooling. There is really nowhere to mount a radiator or pump in this thing. It looks spectacular and offers a tremendous amount of air flow, The front 200 mm fan does a good job of moving the air quietly, but if you need more cooling, you may want to consider swapping it out for something a little more powerful. I just wish the rear fan exhaust fan mounts were a bit larger, does anyone even use 80 mm fans anymore?. All panel inputs are located on the left side of the case. This could be an issue if you place your PC on the left of your workspace. There is no option to relocate them to the right. Building is fairly simple. It will hold up to a miniATX sized mother board with no issues. There are only 2 expansion slots so you're not going to be running dual graphics cards. Most newer graphics cards should fit just fine, but if you are using one of those older insanely long cards, you'll probably have issues. Also you will be limited on CPU coolers as you get a max height of 140 mm. Just make sure to check the cooler height first. There is a hidden bottom section for the power supply and to hold all the wiring. There are a pass-throughs on either side of the case to get the wiring to the mother board One side houses the drive mounts. There are two and you mount the drives to these with screws and rubber standoffs. You them mount the drive trays to the case. Unfortunately due to the position of the drive trays, you have a really tight fit for the motherboard power cable. I suggest wiring up the mother board first, then attempting to mount the drives. The case is completely tool-less with the exception of the drive and motherboard mounting. If you are thinking of doing a cube build but do not want to sacrifice your high end components, I can easily suggest this case. It has plenty of room, ample air cooling and an elegant design.

Very Pleased. Nice Case, Easy Installation

- If someone asked me for a budget-build, mini-itx case, this is my recommendation. - Over the course of a few months scavenging spare parts (most bought just because newegg or the list de craig had deals I couldn't pass up... so I had parts I'd purchased that I wasn't really using) and a few newbies, I put together a wonderful little unit I'll use for a transportable video game emulator: Case: Thermaltake Core V1 CPU: Pentium G3258 MoBo: MSI H81I Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T2 PSU: EVGA 500 B1 GPU: XFX R9-270X-CDFR RAM: 8GB of Kingston HyperX Genesis SSD: ADATA SU800 128GB HDD: WD10EZEX 1TB Aside from the case, mobo, cooler, and PSU, everything was second-hand. UPDATE 22-Aug-2017: I just installed the NOCTUA NF-A20 PWM 200x200x30mm, 4pin, 800rpm, and this fan is WAY more quiet than the stock fan. Like, 50% more quiet. UPDATE 10-Nov-2017: Wowzers on the rebate. I purchased this unit 24-July. I created my online claim on 1-August and mailed the documentation. The system showed "Documentation Received" on 10-August. On 11-August, my rebate was "Approved," then, nothing. Finally, on 13-October, I sent an email requesting the status of my rebate. Within 24 hours, I received a response: "The file related to your Thermaltake Reward tracking # has been located in the system, payment will be this week and you should receive your card in the next 7-14 business days." Then, on 10-November, I received my rebate. Temper your expectations for your rebates, friends. It may be awhile. The only reason I'm writing this is because I see soooo many reviews on newegg based upon rebates rather than the products themselves. My experience has been Corsair rebates are mega-fast. Cooler Master and EVGA rebate processing (mailed to Tempe) are perfectly acceptable. Thermaltake and MSI rebates mailed to El Paso PO Box 130018... eek. These have never been quick for me, personally. Quick to accept/receive? Yes. Quick to process payment? Absolutely not. UPDATE 04-Dec-2017: Became agitated with my 'primary' machine (the SilverStone SG12B) and transferred all 'better' components to this Thermaltake Core V1 build: Case: Thermaltake Core V1 CPU: Pentium G3258 @4.0GHz, stock voltages MoBo: MSI H81I Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T2 with Noctua NF-A9 PWM Fan PSU: Corsair RM550x Fully Modular PSU GPU: Gigabyte GV-N105TOC-4GD (GTX 1050Ti) RAM: 8GB of Kingston HyperX Fury DDR3-1600 SSD: Samsung 250GB 850 Evo HDD: WD10EZEX 1TB Case Fan: Noctua NF-A20 200mm out front from before Case Fan: 2x Noctua NF-A8 80mm for rear exhaust... definitely overkill, but I had them so I figured I'd use them. The power supply wasn't necessary to swap, but I wanted the premium fan and control of the RM550x. Although the handle on the SilverStone SG12B case was nice, the machine was remarkably heavy and just too cumbersome. The footprint/desk space became too much, the storage cooling was subpar, and I just had enough. This Thermaltake unit is now remarkably quiet and it moves A LOT of air. If I hit 50DegC on my CPU, it's only after intensive usage (stress test) for > 60 min. I love the size and the cooling of this case... if I haven't made that clear yet. My only real gripe is still the LED. During sleep, that thing blinks BRIGHT. Needless to say, this is my primary machine now and I am still extremely happy.
