A superb stick purchased with the Warthog throttles to fly F18, F16 and Warthog in DCS world. It is a very heavy unit and has a silky smooth movement with quite a lot of resistance. Because it uses magnets to return to centre you are stuck with the resistance since their are no springs to change! Also note that this stick does not have a twist rudder feature. If I want a rudder I'll have to fork out for pedals. BUT modern military aircraft tend not to need rudder input for normal flight manouevres and I have allocated a HAT switch on the throttles for basic rudder during take off etc.All switches and hats appear to be strongly built but only time will tell with these regarding reliability.I paid well over the odds for the seperate stick and throttles since I was ... Two days after they arrived the UK thrustmaster site was offering the bundle again! Having said that they are still just about worth the extra providing they prove as robust as they look and feel. As a bundle for £400 I wouldn't hesitate to recommend!A friend has just got the Logitec x56 pair for £215 and after 2 weeks a hat switch is failing and the rudder twist judders so - apparently £215 isn't enough to buy you reliability! Hopefully £400 - £500 is.

The Thrustmaster Warthog flight stick is a solidly made stick, nearly all metal - even the 2 stage trigger. Every button has a different tactile feel and feels absolutely premium. The stick can detatch from the base - allowing for an alternate stick to be used.Overall weight is very heavy - there's very little chance this is moving about while in use - even when not bolted down, which is an option.TARGET software didn't play too well with my T16000m and Warthog HOSAS combo - so using JoyToKey instead.Accuracy is great and the stick is solid enough to sit firmly centred with zero wobble so only a tiny deadzone is required depending on how steady handed you are.Downsides: No twist or analog thumbstick - you may need either rudder pedals or a second stick / ... I previously owned a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro Joystick I had been using for over a decade. I decided to upgrade because it was no longer cutting it in DCS World. I will say the stick takes a little to get used to after using a stick which takes very little force to move to a stick where it is not difficult to move but you do need more force than most other joysticks. But the movement resolution is fantastic, I have never felt I was missing out on so much of the experience until I bought this stick. My movements in the simulator are much more fluid and have improved my handling of the aircraft. This stick is incredible, it is very durable with its heavy construction and it is the best stick you can buy at this price point without jumping another $100 for another ... This stick is exceptionally accurate and has a solid feel that can only be experienced if the control stick is made this way. No plastic or vinyl here. The only slight drawback would be the spring tension is rather firm. Would be ideal if there were multiple springs to change for different aircraft.. (fighters vs bombers vs cargo) Other than this little niggle, there's a reason the Thrustmaster has been the crown jewel of HOTAS for over ten years. Want quality---buy quality.
Pros:Heavy, Sturdy, No "wobble", high quality.Cons:No twist rudder, very stiff when compared to other sticks, buttons are harder to push. That said, this is one of the highest quality sticks there are. It's very precise, the body of the stick itself is made of metal and can be easily detached from the base. The cylindrical base can be removed from the base plate to be mounted somewhere else. There is also a 2nd stick for the base, this one based on the F/A-18C (sold separately).
The Thrustmaster HOTAS Warthog Flight Stick is a USB powered erotic corridor into pure awesomeness. Made of mighty hunks of (presumably) All American Metal, this joystick is the closest thing a desktop fighter jock will ever get to harnessing the power of the impossibly huge GAU-8 30mm aerial cannon, forming an emotional connection with another human, or feeling empowered in any capacity in their day-to-day lives. It also replaces your need for food and rest. Once you know this device exists in your home, you will find it impossible to sleep, knowing that the soft curves and gentle yielding touch of the various spring loaded buttons is close at hand. Which is just as well, as your partner will probably leave you anyway once you declare your love for it over them.
I bought this for Star Citizen mostly. And it will function quite well for that. Here's why... (Oh and please note I'm just reviewing the joystick, not the software. I didn't use it because I don't need it for my purposes. Just going to talk about the hardware only.) Solid metal foundation and joystick make for a durable device. I wouldn't purposely drop it or anything (I paid too much money for that) but I'm pretty sure it'd survive such impacts quite well. Scratches or knicks won't bother it either. I'll note that the buttons and switches are plastic, but they are as quality as the rest regardless. Normally the weight associated with large metal items is a disadvantage, but this is not so. Scratches or knicks won't bother it either. I'll note that the buttons and switches are plastic, but they are as quality as the rest regardless. Normally the weight associated with large metal items is a disadvantage, but this is not so. With joysticks, a high weight means that when you yank in whatever direction you aren't likely to actually lift the base and move it around under stress. Even if you are the frantic sort of person, it has holes in the corners for you to screw it down to a table or something. I might add that there are rubbery feet applied to the bottom of the baseplate and they are quite capable. As for size/shape/feel, I get the feeling that the overall ergonomics favor large hands, or perhaps someone wearing gloves (like military pilots! who've thought right?) as the stick is rather large. The d-pad, hats, and switches are mostly of moderate stiffness to move/use. the trigger, thumb stick and pinkie paddle being the lighest to actuate, and the heaviest being the red 'missile' button and the other red button on the right side. All of these have a really positive feel when pushed/moved. You won't ever doubt whether or not you actually activated the thing you wanted. Moving the actual joystick itself is also moderately stiff and though I find this to be in good taste your mileage may vary. When you initally get the stick some of this may go away as you 'break it in.' I've had mine for over a week now and it definitely feels a little bit less hesitant. The only downsides I can see are the things that depend on taste, such as the stick being stiff which can be physically draining after extended use (it is very accurate and durable, but it comes at a cost. I prefer it, but I do get tired) or the force to move the buttons/switches etc. Unexpected bonus? As you use something like this skin will wear off your hands and accumulate. This stick is really easy to clean with a toothbrush or similar. Tl;dr Extremely quality product that I will probably be using for years.

Great build and feel designed after the real HOTAS of the F15, F18 and A-10 Warthog. This joystick is built like a Mack Truck and should hold up. However, the software used to make it work is dated and not as intuitive as it could be. Hell, for the cost it should just automatically hook up. Another issue I don't like is the stick has an ever so slight twist to it. It's NOT a twist stick (for rudder control) but it does twist somewhat which is irritating for the amount spent on this controller.
Amazing HOTAS setup, extremely comfortable to use and the ergonomics are perfect. All of the joystick buttons are easily in reach of the holding position, and the throttle is extremely useful for DCS and other sim games, as it has plenty of buttons and switches for it. Maps perfectly to the A-10CII Tank Killer in DCS with bare minimum of setup.
