The Thrustmaster T128P is an entry level steering wheel for racing games both for the Playstation and the PC hence the P designation. Compared to other streering wheels in the market, this model is quite small. But then again that is downside of PC ganes sometimes not being fully compatible with accessories.Furhermore, most games I have tried from the Microsoft Store are often incompatible with this steering wheel. Perhaps AAA games for the PlayStation may be more compatible with this. But unfortunately I don’t have a PlayStation at my disposal.Overall, I find this steering wheel quite satisfactory in spite of the quirks of the brakes. Nonetheless, I would still recommend this streering wheel for those who would want one but not necessarily break the bank.

I like that the pedals use magnetic sensors instead of potentiometers so they should retain accuracy over time. I also like that they included two holes in the pedal base for mounting, I attach my pedals to a piece of 3/4” plywood, then attach a 2x6 vertically and another piece of 3/4” ply on top to clamp the steering wheel. I size it to fit me while seated so everything is a comfortable reach. I like having the pedals attached so they don’t slide away at an inopportune time. The clamp on the wheel feels sturdy and keeps the wheel in place with no problem.I miss not having a clutch pedal but since there’s no stick shift lever either it’s not an issue. The included butterfly shifter changes gears smoothly so you can rip through a sequential gearbox with ease.This wheel appears to have about 900 degrees of rotation lock to lock, you’ll make use of pretty much all of that in Mudrunner as you maneuver a lumbering log truck. The race cars in other games don’t need such travel.I think the T128 is a good entry level steering wheel and it gets the job done without breaking the bank.

Note that these settings have a profound effect on how the wheel responds and reacts so to get the most out of this wheel you need to change the configuration to meet your needs. In the F1 and Assetto Corsa games you can feel the wheel respond in tight corners at high speed and you can feel the vibration of the road surface as you go faster. In the Dirt Rally racing you can feel the difference when going from a dirt track to gravel in the wheel vibration and also how it responds to drifting. In Forza Horizon 5 the Hot Wheels track takes on a whole new feeling when you are trying to steer through high banks and loop to loops. For the casual player or someone who wants to get into racing games at an affordable price point this platform is definitely one to consider.Issues with Mounting the Wheel and PedalsThe race wheel comes with a typical table top clamp but sadly Thrustmaster has shortened the legs of the clamp with this version versus some of its older models. Because of this the mounting clamp has to be able to grip the table top close to the edge of the table. If there is any type of support or molding offset from the edge you may have issues mounting the wheel. Also Thrustmaster did not include any mounting hardware built into the wheel’s base for securing it to racing stand. I use a racing stand and it has predrilled holes for Thrustmaster wheels but without mounts in the base of wheel I had to create my own mounting. The pedal platform is very problematic due to the short pedals and its size. It is impossible to keep it from sliding or tipping over if you use it on carpet. On a hardwood floor or any solid floor the pedal platform is grippier but definitely not perfect. The pedals are too small and way too close together. Anyone who has big feet or has wide shoes will have problems with these pedals especially if you like to use both feet on the pedals. Thrustmaster did include two mounting holes in the pedal platform if you have a racing stand and some hardware for mounting it.

Please take into consideration, I sim race for more than a hobby, I race series against very good drivers across the world in many games.The wheel performs fantastic for what it is though, the kids can actually race against me now from the backup sim PC and they have yet to complain as they are used to only using the T300.The T129 has some dead zones towards TDC of the wheel, it feels like I have to turn a little early so the wheel knows to start the turn in time and start exiting turns and apexs a little early as well. The Force Feedback is ok, nowhere near the Direct Drive wheel but on par with the T300, really not that far different, the T300 is just stronger.Sexond, the pedals are good enough for the kids, not for me. Yes, the magnetic sensors are much better now than the earlier styke 2 pedal setup from TM, like night and day, but, they are not linear at all when tested. At 10% throttle, measured with a ruler, I was showing 16%, 50 was 52% and 100% did get 100%. You will slide badly across hardwood and carpet will offer more friction. This base is very clearly meant to be installed on a race chassis and left on a floor. Keep this in mind incase you are planning to lay the pedals down on hardwood instead of mounting it. The wheel mounts very easily via a provided bolt and clamp set up and should easily mount up to a 3 inch platform. Now lets get in to the real reason why you wanna buy it and that's the immersion. The steering wheel has a built in motor which based on what game you are playing will offer multiple resistance or road feedback. Maxing out the settings seems the give the most realism. While playing Need for Speed Heat i remember i was pushing about 150 mph on a highway and as i came across a bridge where the bridge connects to solid ground there was a small dip in the ground. As a came across that junction point the wheel jerked a bit and the car felt a bit unstable for a quick second almost as you would expect it to feel in real life. The fact that the steering wheel had adequate pressure meant that i was able to apex my turns appropriately without over steering. The pedals have great resistance and personally feel better than the pedals in my personal vehicle. The transition from closed throttle to wide open throttle was very smooth and made holding a certain speed effortless. Never once did i experience any glitch or dropout of the pedal sensors. Drifting with these pedals was so much easier now that both the brake and accelerator could be easily feathered. There is no feedback in the pedals as in the steering wheel so keep in mind you wont really feel the road force in the pedals.Here's my take away from this set up. If your looking to get in to racing games but not really sure your gonna like it, then this is the perfect set up to start with. Out of all the wheels Thrustmaster makes, this is the best priced one that wont break the bank and should leave you with very little buyers remorse. But not just that it is actually a very good set up that offers great feedback and handling. The steering wheel is a little too small for my taste but thats to be expected with this set up. Now with that being said if your a avid racer looking to buy in to a new set up i'd personally recommend something of a higher tier as this may disappoint a bit. But all in all this is a awesome buy just keep in mind the pedals will require some kind of mounting or proper placement

The feedback includes friction in turning and vibration based on the game terrain and driving environment.I tested with both Forza Horizon 5 and Need for Speed Heat, the steering wheel automatically worked with both. I liked that the wheel gave a different feel when I was driving off the track versus on, and lower resistance on the straightaways and higher on the curves. I found myself hitting the gas and brake as I would in a vehicle, which is way too much pressure. It took a few attempts to get used to gently using the pedals.My overall impression is that I think its a great basic setup. For my first wheel, I wish the size was slightly larger, but I really like the feedback and the ease of setup. Overall I think this is a good wheel and I'd recommend it to the casual race gamer.

The pedals are basic and do not provide any adjustments, and they do have some rubber feet, but I found that they did move around a bit on me on my carpet.The USB type A cable is only about 6 feet long and I do wish it was a bit longer. I did have to update the firmware when I first hooked it up and I found it on the Thrustmaster site. I did have to use my PC to install the firmware. They also send out updates every so often to make the wheel compatible with games coming out and the Thrustmaster website has a current list of what games currently work. The current list only shows about 50 or so games that are available so be sure to check it out first if you plan to use it. You can find the list under the Support section of the website and select the Racing Wheels tab then scroll to the T128. The website is a bit clumsy though. Over-all, this wheel is a good value and provides a good time racing.

This isn't to say, though, that build quality is bad or the wheel is uncomfortable - it was pretty easy on my hands once I adjusted to the small size. I am, however, less sold on the pedals - they feel especially plasticky.I think my favorite experience using the wheel was just aimlessly driving about in Forza Horizon 4. I find aimless drives rather relaxing, but I'm not a fan of the gas costs. Using this setup to drive about in-game scratched that itch in a way using a controller never really does, thanks to having an actual wheel that behaves kind of like the real thing instead of a joystick. Honestly I'd say it's worth it just for that, but I'll admit that's kind of a weirdly specific and personal taste.So, overall. I imagine there are better wheels out there you can get; particularly if you aren't willing to put up with the smaller scale of the thing. Again, the closest real-world steering wheel I've found is on a golf cart. However, if you're just starting out with a wheel, and you have something to keep the pedal board locked in place so it doesn't slide about while you use it, this isn't a bad choice. I'd definitely recommend it to my friends (with those caveats, at least.)

It also comes with a clamp to secure it to a desk. The base pedal set includes only brake and accelerator. When I first received the wheel I attempted to used it on my desk (mount as supplied will only work with desk that are 2in thick max. We ended up having to design an extension for the clamp to make it useable for the desk (using a M10 x 1.5 Pitch Stainless Threaded Rod (150mm long) and Stainless Hex Coupling (45mm long). Another thing to consider is if the the front of your desk has a center drawer the move may move with drawer or the handle may be an issue. During the initial setup, I noticed the cord connecting the wheel to the base was too short to drape over the back of the desk, therefore it had to hang off to the side. It wasn’t a bother while I was driving, just an issue to consider while setting up.Downloading the drivers is necessary, but just a simple search for the model will lead you to the website. Once the wheel was setup and driver installed, I connected the USB to my pc. Be warned that the wheel does a calibration, rotating fully in each direction, on connection.I enjoyed the feeling the weight of it and the force of turning the wheel. This wheel action in no way feels like a lesser product. The turning angles meaning that you can whip this thing around for those really tight corners but the big feature the reason that you should be buying this racing wheel is the haptic feedback. I raced a few racing with it in the default settings, then adjust the feedback of the wheel, rotation, and a few buttons to customize my racing experience.On the various tracks of Forza 5, there was a ton of feedback and haptics, I could feel the type of road surface that was underneath my tires whether that be road, trail or river. The haptics here are really impressive and really immersive, it really pulls you into the game. Also, the feedback from the other cars, scenery, and terrain affects the handing of the vehicle, which is a fun and added to the difficulty of the game. I could really feel the physics of the game intentionally through the wheel.Now the pedals were another issue I had to overcome. My desk setup is in a carpeted room. I noticed the bottom of the pedals have a rubber grip, that my pair better with laminate or ceramic floors. Unfortunately, on the carpet the pedal slip away, and often I had to readjust them mid game, pulling them back with my feet. When I received my second desk, it had a support bar at the bottom. I used that support bar and a yoga block to stabilize the pedal setup. I didn’t have any problems after that solution. The pedals do provide nice feedback with the brake spring being a little harder to push than the accelerator.I have mostly used the wheel with Forza 5, because of the RPM LED support and mostly plug&play support. I have also used it with BeamNG and Dirt 2.0, but both required manually setting up the wheel. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed that Forza 4 is not yet supported (I have a ton of cars in that one). Please check the Thrustmaster website for the list of compatible games or check out some forums before buying if you are set on a specific game.Overall, the Thrustmaster T128 is an affordable set up that provides strong haptic feedback, RPM LEDS, a set of pedals and acceptable compatibility with newer games.
