I bought this tent a couple years ago. Love it, when the weather is nice.Don't expect it to weather rain very well, or wind (high wind is a very funny, loud experience where you feel like you're sleeping in a noisy kite). These tents were made for dry climates. I'd love to see a 4 season version. The travel cover on ours has now totally ripped and ruined, making the tent all mouldy. Our fault, as we left it on the truck to do winter camping, I guess the melt freeze, and highway did a number on the fabric. I'm hoping to purchase another cover, but it is hard to get parts in Canada. The mattress is OK, not quite thick enough in my opinion, you still feel the bottom. Why not make it really comfy?

Great quality tent!

Ive used this tent a handful of times in a short month span. It has amazing quality, and nice thick materials on the tent. With the insulation it is warm enough to camp in northern CO in February. Now for the downsides. The design for putting the annex is a pain. Getting it lined up and on place is not an easy to do solo. The stitching on the cover zipper ripped during the first few uses. That's not a dig at the cover, but I tried keeping my bedding and pillows in it when closed and that was to much. Without the pillows it was fine. Overall it's a good quality tent!

Has the potential to be very good

Really wanted to like this as the size and setup was just right IMO, but had some fatal issues with no replacement parts available.Pros:Size, layout, colors, warmth in cold, ventilation zippers in warmer climate, zip outs in roof for even more ventilation or star gazing, like that you can zip out panel to have mesh, or zip out the mesh to have a complete opening. Separate room anex was good.Cons:Number one issue was the water leakage. Even with the rain shield on, it leaked at the seems, was really odd as I could not find holes but simply like it was leaking through the material. Then, on a non rainy day, I noticed it leaked a bit again but due to condensation? Then, on a non rainy day, I noticed it leaked a bit again but due to condensation? Another issue was when it did rain, the water would collect on the anex side, and overflow after mass collection similar to a canopy tent. Another issue was on windy nights, the loose end of the straps holding the rain cover would fly around in the wind, hitting the tent making more noise than you would think. This could be solved with some small elastic to keep the loose bit in place. Tent cover material should be more hard, not soft as it won’t last as long during travel. Last issue was the ladder as everyone else mentions. Ours also fell apart. Need a better solution here, something more sturdy. The actual ladder broke, one section between the steps, where it would keep extending until it disconnected entirely. This tent has the potential to be very good but the water leaks and the ladder are a no go. We wanted to keep the tent and asked Thule for replacement parts but parts were not available with no apparent eta.

Love it Mounted on an Overland Trailer
30 August 2021

First impression out the box was it's made of heavy material and some of the mounting hardware was missing. REI quickly got us some new hardware and we mounted it on a homemade overland trailer (70's Datsun pickup bed converted to a trailer).I'm giving it 4 stars because it is a great tent that is kind of hard to setup and take down. The trailer is lower than my car so I have good access, but it is not a graceful procedure to set up. Doing it alone, it feels like you're getting the momentum going then just watching it flop open or closed.Despite the lack of finesse with the setup, the tent is a great place to sleep. The walls are thick and having a solid base under you helps keep warm on cool Colorado nights. The floor dimensions are 10' long by 4.5' wide. Very comfortable with 2 people and doable with 3 close friends. The mattress is very firm, but way better than sleeping on the ground. Although considering buying a piece of 4" foam to up the comfort level. So far we've experienced rain, wind, and freezing temps and have stayed comfortable. I'm glad we made this purchase

My almost 1-year review
14 February 2021

I've had my RTT for close to a year now. We've set it up at least 30 times, here is my experience. First off: don't buy this tent if you think it's going to be easy to set up, it's not, especially depending on how high your vehicle is. The biggest pain is removing the outer cover (and putting it back on). Be super careful to hold a finger inside of the zipper as you zip/unzip to keep it from catching on the tent skirt fabric. I did this a couple of times and had to use a knife to cut the fabric in order to free it up (not a huge deal, as the skirt isn't part of the tent chamber, it's just the part that hangs down and covers the edge of the bottom of the tent). I did this a couple of times and had to use a knife to cut the fabric in order to free it up (not a huge deal, as the skirt isn't part of the tent chamber, it's just the part that hangs down and covers the edge of the bottom of the tent). Installing the rods that hold the window awnings up is a bit of a pain and for me and my vehicle, requires some acrobatics to reach some of them. There is a learning curve to all of this, which is why I've waited this long to write a review. Anyone writing a review after using it just a few times is a RTT rookie and they have probably made some mistakes that they are blaming on the tent. The best advice I can give anyone who wants an easier setup should look into a hardshell RTT. Packing up the tent takes a little finesse, as you've got to do some tucking after folding down the tent before putting the outer cover on. One last setup issue you should be aware of: you'll want to level your vehicle. I have two RV level indicators on my rack that show me level for side-to-side and front-to-back. I have boards that I put under the tires to get the vehicle level... sometimes this can take a while, but it makes a huge difference for sleeping (blood will rush to your head if you are sleeping at a decline). I know this all sounds like a lot, but it's not, really. I'm just sharing what I've learned from experience... I'm still giving a 4-star rating. There are tons of RTT groups out there (look on Facebook) where you can get more advice on selecting the right RTT and tips to help you have a better camping experience. Now that I've explained what I find to be inconvenient about this tent, let me tell you what I love about it: it's a great way to camp! I love being up high above the ground. It's very comfortable and has held up well in windy conditions as well. There's plenty of room for me, my kid and our 25lb dog to sleep comfortably. The annex is great too for longer stays (for one-nighters I don't go to the trouble of installing it). We use it as both a mud-room and bathroom at night when we are using our portable toilet and don't want to have to leave the tent). To add to our comfort, we use an Exped mattress on top of the one that comes with the tent, as it's a bit too firm for my comfort. One last thing to take into consideration: once you are set up, you aren't driving anywhere in the vehicle the tent is on. We take our bikes and haven't found this to be a big deal, but if you like to get out on drives after setting up camp, this will be a problem.

Let me first say that my husband and I were super excited to get this tent. We tried so hard to like it, probably used it about 10 times.First, the main issue: this thing is just not as easy to put up and take down as it seems from the videos. Biggest issue was packing it away—the cover BARELY fits over the thing, and if you keep any bedding in there it makes the height just enough higher to make it a huge pain in the butt to get the cover on. Not easy to tuck all of the material away, so the cover zipper got stuck all the time, super annoying. Just started to not feel worth it very quickly.Other issues: cover zipper ripped after 9 uses—the seam stitching just ripped. The ladder also broke almost in half on our second use (to be fair, we’d left one of the straps on and tried to open the tent with the strap on, but that ladder bent with a pretty small amount of resistance). We knew this would happen, but we probably lost about 5mpg of gas efficiency. Last, we couldn’t stand up in the annex—we’ve got a Honda CRV with a rack on top, and this wasn’t enough height—definitely had been hoping to comfortably stand under there to change or just hang out if the weather turned bad. Finally returned it and just going back to car camping.Pros:-Stays warm at night, but has good ventilation with windows open-Mattress is comfy as heckCons:-Not that easy to set up alone-Questionable quality—not as durable as you’d hope for the price-Super annoying to pack up if you store any kind of extra bedding (blankets, pillows, etc) inside-Can’t stand up in the annex (probably could with a significantly higher vehicle)-overall, just a lot harder to put up and take down than expected

Terrible after purchase service.

I’ve owned one for about 3 years, and I loved the tent at one time but won’t recommend it or the company. The ladder is load bearing, and it’s the weakest link in the system. The tent will not really work without it.Now couple that with the fact that I’ve needed a replacement for the better part of the year, and they are literally never in stock. I’ve been checking throughout the year, and customer service refuses to send me an alert when one is available.. they are basically just super good at giving you bad news..The tent uses your basic generic telescoping ladder available anywhere, but with a special bracket riveted into the top. When asked about this the customer service rep tried to sell me the straight up wrong part. (The bracket piece that bolts into the tent).. again super helpful. So basically when the tent was functional it was great. We broke the ladder and now it’s pretty much been worthless for a year. So screw Tepui. Get a different brand of RTT.

Well constructed and lots of room
21 February 2022

We bought this and fit 2 adults and 3 kids with ease. Setup is quick and easy.Used it on 2 other occasions, one of which it rained a fair amount. The tent stayed dry, but the seams on the annex are not sealed, so we had a small pool at the bottom of the ladder.Takedown is a bit tedious, but on par with any other RTT of similar design. Overall I would recommend.

Worst Installation Instructions EVER

Hi, for such an expensive and complex product this should come with something approaching intelligible written documentation including descriptions of the steps to perform. The cartoon instructions are ridiculous and must be some kind of IQ test I flunked. The single instructional video leaves out so many steps that is also a joke. This thing is NOT easy to set up the first time nor to figure out what all the bags and components are for or what position on the tent everything needs to be in to initially fold it up and get it ready to use. I *think* this will be great to use and will post a review if I can get it set up and put away in the field under real use and not just a test run in the driveway. Although easy to figure out how to install it is a 3D plastic mat that was so difficult to unroll and have it get flat so you can put it under the mattress inside the tent there should have been some description about how to best do that too.
