We wanted a carrier to use when we're away with our caravan rather than having to keep lifting on off roof carriers. We have found it very simple to fit and sturdy when attached to the ball. The bikes sit well and dont move when driving. The bikes are easily easy to lift on and off. We have changed the pedals to folding ones on our 2 adult road bikes which makes siting them easier. The first few times using it with our Sorento we forgot to close the boot before fitting the carrier.

Extremely versatile low-cost rack

Really pleased with this carrier. It fits quickly and securely to the tow ball, the rubber frame clamps don't mark the bicycle frames, and because the clamps rotate, any size or shape of bicycle can fit. Very well thought out, very versatile. At one point, I even used some clamps upside down, to nestle my road bike next to my mountain bike.My only warning - be very careful when taking it off the tow ball, as it 'snaps' shut very quickly! The bikes do obscure my lights and number plate, so I needed to buy a light board - but not Thule's, as there are far cheaper ones out there, even made specially for bike carriers.

Great simple design works really well

I have a VW t5 tailgate transporter with a rear spoiler. I researched the market for a bike carrier .I first found these tow ball fitted tow bars on ebay , but makes I have never heard of. After further research I found this Thule version. With Thule being a respected manufacturer I thought it best to go for this model. With Evans Tescoclubcard deals it worked out a bargain buy!The quality of the bars is excellent and it is easy to fit /take off . Very secure mounting on the tow ball. The rack can also be locked either via a simple padlock, or with the cycles chained to the rack.Very pleased with the rack ideal for my vehicle.

Initially great. Now not
5 April 2022

Mine is about 6 years old. It was great until this year: light to use, easy off and on and secure. For the last year it’s been terrible as it moves on the tow bar , taking the bike at an angle and rubbing paint off my car. Today I stopped to adjust it 9x in a 50 km distance. I had it checked by the retailer and they have no suggestions

Perfect bike carrier for two bikes
25 August 2015

I have used a Thule four bike carrier for years, and always felt that it was too cumbersome for the occasions when four bikes were not needed. Expensive too. Along comes the Thule 2-bike towball carrier! Clips onto the towball in seconds, and allows fitting of two bikes within a couple of minutes. Simple. There is nothing to dislike about this.Contrary to advice, too, the bikes do not knock against each other, nor scratch the car paintwork (VW Touran); not that I would really care anyway! Only issue maybe the lack of a lock, which may be needed if you intend to leave your bike for anytime. I do not, so no issue. Once the bikes are off, lock the carrier in the boot. Fantastic purchase.

Superb

This is an excellent piece of kit from a highly reputable manufacturer. The engineering is top quality: unlike some towbar carriers of this type it does not need to be strapped to the tailgate so the weight and load is entirely supported by the towbar - ingenious. It sounds like it might be insecure or wobbly but I've just completed a trip of almost 2000 miles with no problems, and the carrier was as secure at the end of each journey as at the beginning. I managed to get a ladies' bike (no crossbar) and a small boy's bike on the rack with a little bit of time and thought. When you can get such a good carrier at this price it makes no sense to try and get something cheaper. It's almost worth having a towbar fitted especially.

The good and the bad
17 August 2017

First the good - The design of this carrier is fantastic with the way it clamps to the tow ball - it seems very secure. Now the bad - having fitted the carrier I expected adding the bikes to it would be a piece of cake. How wrong was I!! I had two mountain bikes to rake on holiday a two bike carrier seemed to fit the bill. However the design of the carrier did not allow our mountain bikes to fit to the mounting bars. Ladies bikes with a diagonal bar would also not fit. Also when a hybrid bike that did fit the carrier was added, to stop the handle bars hitting the rear windscreen (LR Discovery 4) the carrier had to be adjusted and only a single bike could then be carried. Had this information been provided before purchase a different decision would have been taken - ... MoreFirst the good - The design of this carrier is fantastic with the way it clamps to the tow ball - it seems very secure. Also some fittings to support different bike shapes would be great. Hope this help other looking to do the same as me but would prefer greater success! I an having to take my son's bike on holiday and my wife her trainers!

Thule 970 Xpress 2-bike Towball Carrier

Just the one easy click pushing down the locking mechanism to attach the carrier to the ball hitch.Don't lock it down yet. Easy mounting of the bike. Once mounted check that handlebars don't touch window or rear wiper. If they do, with bike in place ,gently lift locking bar and tilt carrier away from wiper. Now lock it down and secure with narrow bar padlock. Then, if you want, lock bike to carrier. OK BIKE STICKS OUT one side of vehicle. This is within the wing mirror line. So no need to worry and you can always see it. Yes your bike is still there!!!! Highly recommend and Tredz is by far the cheapest supplier. Thank you Tredz.

Thule xpress pro bike rack
25 April 2020

It does what its suppose to. Hold your bike on the back of the car. Its solid in construction. I have a road / time trial compact frame and it does not quite fit level across the two holding rubbers however I use the upright seat stem and rear angle frame and it clips perfectly in place. Its solid more than happy with this hanging off the back on the car. Dont forget if the obscures either the lights or reg plate then you will need a light board and rear plate. Available at Halfords. Happy.
