I had expected to be challenged by that much additional weight above the bike's center of gravity. In practice, it is no problem at all.there have been some ridiculous downpours on my rides over the past year. The exterior of the Especial stash is up to the challenge. The bag's interior has not seen a drop of water on these rainy days. This is my most appreciated feature of the bag. Very helpful not to worry about your laptop taking on water.Things to note:-- The small version is perfect for my 13" Macbook Pro. I doubt it would fit a larger laptop.-- I sometimes wish I had the larger model of this bag to fit a few more items, but the discipline of living within the smaller form factor is an excellent all-around choice for me.-- This bag can take a beating. It has scraped past doorways, been through all types of weather and been treated unceremoniously. Using some diluted mild cleaner on a rag is all that is needed to keep the bag looking brand new.-- I know the clip bike light strap on the front seems like a branding choice. In practice, it has kept a blinker high on my back and has helped reduce the number of times a driver has failed to recognize me on the roadway. This bag may seem expensive, but if you have any ambition to use it in rainy weather, it is worth buying.

This messenger bag is the best I've had so far. Functional, optimally and cleverly thought out, looks good, high-quality workmanship and robust material - an excellent companion for the day, whether in private or business terms. It really sits firmly on the back like a protective shield and does not slip on the shoulder or on the back. The closure technology is really cool and access to the contents of the bag is well protected on the one hand and quickly done for you on the other. I assume that it will stay with me for a long time, but I would choose it again at any time. A really great messenger bag - thanks TIMBUK2!

Definitely a 10++. I have been using the medium size as my daily "briefcase" for work. It's rugged, 100% waterproof, shows no wear and tare, even after years and years of use, and is super cool style! I've never been happier with a product. Even bought one, in a size large, for my partner to use for work attaché case. You definitely won't be disappointed. In fact, the newest version allows for changing the carrying "sash" to a left or a right orientation. So, it's easy on your shoulder and back, in my experience.

I use this bag for work and personal use. I wanted something water/weather proof, good looking, durable and functional which this bag is. I don't use this bag while riding a bicycle.Things I like: water/weatherproof; 17" laptop fits inside comfortably; reasonably attactive; brightly-colored interiorThings I don't like: strap pad is immobile; handle is awkward to use; bag is poorly balanced on body and by itself; dull styling; expensive
It's a great bag with better organization features than other bags I tried looking at online which was the biggest reason for purchase. No regrets by any means. Some things I hope would improve in future models is a better water bottle pocket. It's elastic can fit wider bottles well but a slight swing of the bag can send it flying. Also the strap pad is fixed, which doesn't bother me terribly but I do end up just putting the bare strap on my shoulder at times. Organization is definitely better, but I do think there is more room for smaller pockets on the inside. That all being said, I'm definitely content with the purchase!
I really want to like this bag more because the quality is so good, but there's some odd design choices.1. The fixed location of the pad and crossbody strap is annoying at times.2. When you put the bag down it flops over and since the laptop sleeve doesn't close, your laptop is not that secure.3. If the strap/handle on the back was moved up just a bit it would carry much better. The quality of this bag is great though. The contrasting inside is nicely done. I'd recommend it but be aware of the design quirks as it's not an inexpensive bag. If those are show stoppers for you go with a more traditional messenger that has more adjustability (I still have a 25 y/o timbuk2 messenger).
I was very excited about migrating from a backpack to this messenger bag but it's fallen short on almost all expectations. Unlike the Timbuk2 suitcase I own, this bag is poorly designed for daily business use. The most frustrating design flaw is the shoulder strap. The pad is fixed to one end of the strap and the strap lock doesn't hold so your continuously adjusting the length. Also, the magnet flap straps work well but the magnet buckles easily break. Once broken, it's painful to get the replacements (order#, description of failure, pictures of failure, etc.) and the replacements require you to cut and re-attach the straps (ouch!!!). Last, the overall space is limited. It's probably as good as you can get with this form factor but I find it difficult to organize ... MoreI was very excited about migrating from a backpack to this messenger bag but it's fallen short on almost all expectations. It's probably as good as you can get with this form factor but I find it difficult to organize and contain everything need business trips (laptop, brochures, notebook, business cards, pens, pencils, cables, chargers, headset, ipad, & small projector). Because it only has the one outside pocket, it ends up feeling like everything else isn't well organized and all internal pockets being mid-located, the bag easily starts bulging.
The bag is great. Love the daisy chain to attach keys, badge, etc. High vis liner is nice. The bottle slot only holds a small bottle securely. Now for the strap. Everyone complains about the immovable pad. That's because it is a true messenger bag meant to be worn cross body (like in the picture) not on the same shoulder as the bag hangs. That's why it's immovable. It's the only bag I own that is comfortable for crossbody wear. I guess they could point that out to people looking to buy. Now the bad thing about the strap. The adjustment buckle. The magnetic release and all sounds great but doesn't work. It's not needed because as soon as you pick up the bag, the strap loosens itself. It's constant frustration having to pull it tight every time you use it. Once on, it's pretty solid. I have commuted to work with it and it doesn't move and feels secure. Crossbody so it doesn't sway. Other than that, and the scuffing of the material, I haven't been able to find a replacement. Neither Tom Bihn or Waterfield designs can match it.
I have had a Timbuk2 messenger bag for many years, and it finally was worn down enough that my in-laws got me a new bag for my birthday. This beg is better made in several ways, particularly the water resistant exterior. I don't think it is as aesthetically pleasing as the prior bag, particularly the fairly unattractive neon green lining. The magnets all over are taking some getting used to, particularly to open the main flap. Additionally, I wish I could move the padded shoulder strap to other angles than wearing the bag diagonally across my back as I inevitably sweat when that is the case. The bag is quite easy to wear on a bike, I must say. The large bag is also quite spacious.
I was super excited about this messenger bag. It does fit my 15inch Mac laptop well, and has a few zipped pockets that are useful. I've not yet tested the waterproof claim. However, the padded portion of the strap is stitched and fixed to its one end such that it is not moveable, which makes the bag very uncomfortable to use. I didn't realize this until after several attempts at fixing it, and too late to return. I am debating using a seam ripper to un-attach the portion of the strap, but am afraid it won't go well. Way too expensive of a bag for it to be as nonfunctional as it is.
