Tivoli makes high quality products and the PAL is no exception. Specifically, excellent FM reception in a location where most radios fail. I was dubious of going back to an analog tuning dial, preferring digital with programable buttons. The tuning dial works very well, though and I have no regrets. My wife loves the sound and ease of use, too. The PAL replaces a cheap Panasonic and the PAL is worth every penny in comparison.

If you are planning to use AM radio, be aware that the PAL BT has two major issues. The first is that it can't be used on AM when plugged into AC power. There is a huge amount of interference noise on AM when the radio is plugged in. When used on battery power, the AM is much better, but still iffy. Depending on location and positioning, weird old-timey sounds (like on radios from the 1940's) can get mixed into the audio. If you're doing FX for a 50's sci-fi knock-off movie, the sounds can come in handy, though. As for the radio's sound generally, whether on AM or FM, I found it to be pretty pleasant, but a little shy of treble, so kind of dark sounding and, mainly on AM, a bit muffled. I really love this speaker. I bought one for myself and one as a gift. It includes an auxiliary input so you can connect to older devices like ipods/nanos. I use a 3.5mm Male to Male Auxiliary Audio Cable (available on amazon). I live in a high density area -- there is bluetooth interference so I prefer to connect with a cable to modern devices as well.Another feature I really appreciate is the Bluetooth "security" feature -- you can't connect to the speaker (initial connection) until you press a button in the back. This prevents others from hijacking your speaker.Not necessarily the most amazing sound but good enough. Nice radio. I got white which looks good everywhere.

If all you want is a Bluetooth speaker, there are other options out there. But if you want something with a really(!) great tuner then this is for you. Yes, I am old school and I enjoy the experience of going through the dial and seeing what stations I can pick up. And the tuner on this is incredible. I pick up stations all over the dial. And when you don't want FM, then the Bluetooth comes in handy. I pair it with my phone and launch the SiriusXM app. The sound quality is very good too.I also enjoy the portability. The battery lasts forever, so I can take this with me when working in the garage or doing projects around the house.Is it expensive for what it is? Yes, but that's kinda the point of nice toys!
I have a Tivoli model 1 BT. The model1 is an impressive radio. So when I was looking for a portable radio with BT I immediately went to the PAL BT. What a disappointment. The frequency on the tuning dial are not calibrated with the actual frequencies. And the radio sounds hollow, like a 20 dollar radio. For the money I expected a lot more. This radio is an expensive lesson that you don’t always get what you pay for.

She is still able to live independently so devices with small buttons or touch screen selections was just not an option.Sure she has a laptop (not really used anymore) and WiFi, etc. But all the options ranging from Satellite Radio to MP3 Players to Internet Radio did not have the portability and ease of use of this PAL AM/FM Weather Resistant Radio.She missed music in her life (classical) and wanted to have something she could carry from room to room. Going to another room? No problem, just unplug and carry. Back in the living room? Put it back on the table with the cord and plug it back in. Only three knobs, all simple and easy to grab and turn. Even the dial has a 'clutch' so if try to go past the limit will turn but with greater resistance vs. breaking. And the Weather Resistant aspect provides a rubberized like coating making it easy to grip and carry. There are even finger indents on the side making it less slip prone when carrying. Add to that she can be comfortable taking it down to the pool and it is a perfect combination. I searched for over a month and talked to lots of people and found NOTHING that compares to ease of use and portability that my elderly mom needed. Pricey? Sure but will worth it!!!
Have problem with the GUARANTEE. 2 year Guarantee as it says. The unit was purchased in feb 2017. The unit was not intact when it was purchased. No I'm trying to get it fixed, no understanding from Tivoli Audio! The Battery is not being charged as it says according to the instructions. So the portable function is "out of use". This radio is is in dire need of a tone control or bass cut. It seems optimised for bluetooth classical music, but for speech or AM radio it is very boomy and resonant at about 100Hz. On FM any modern music becomes distorted through excessive bass which you can't turn down. At the price, I would expect better. I've heard $40 radios sound better than this.
I had an original PAL back in the day. The addition of BT is nice. Sound is solid. Radio reception is good
